I went hiking both Saturday and Sunday looking for moose or whatever I could find. I saw 12 moose Saturday and 13 moose Sunday. I worked some with this guy. He was pretty calm. So, I decided to try to get some shots of him walking into the camera. I got quite a few. He would get up to about 15-20 feet from me and then I would back off. He seemed fine with it. Didn't get aggressive. I wouldn't even think of trying it in about two weeks, after the rut starts. I had to go out an hour before sunrise to find them. The bulls in particular disappear into the heavy alders soon after sunrise. Problem with going out so early is the lighting. Very dark. It was also very overcast and misting rain. But, once I found them, I just stayed with this guy till he bedded down. At one time I had 8 moose that I could see all at the same time. Keeping track of that many can sometimes prove to get quite exciting. The cows often take exception if you get between them and the bull. Once the rut starts it gets really bad. They don't want anybody or anything up close to the bull they are with. Camera Settings: 160mm - 1/60 - ISO 400
Today it's all about mythology and beautifully stylised animals. We keep coming back to Finnish Artist Jonna Hyttinen's social media page, as every time we do there is something new and exiting in it. You know how in a previous post I was mentioning Inktober? (the month of October dedicated to ink drawings. One every day). Hyttinen's started her own Mythtober: Every day she draws/paints a mythical creature taken from folklore. Below a collection of well known and some a little less so. They all share her amazing style and almost look like they come from the same story. In fact they are separated by geography, coming as they do, from different countries and times; some of them spanning hundreds of years apart. I know it's an oxymoron, but post like this on a Sunday make me sit back and imagine calmly and serenely. At the beginning of the week, on a Monday, these same thoughts push me to see real potential in the coming days and an uplift in spirit; just like a flame, that I do all I can to keep it ignited till Sunday. I hope this has a similar effect on you, or that you have something similar in your life to make emotions a ray sunlight that warms you from the inside... Quetzalcoatl from Mesoamerican mythology.
