Do you work with toddlers? If so, there’s a very high chance that you’ve done the Little Mouse, Little Mouse, Are You in the (Colour) House? rhyme. Because it’s toddler gold. But maybe you’re a little tired of Little Mouse or maybe you’d like to model to caregivers how to adapt and evolve rhymes. Either... Continue reading Little Mouse, Little Mouse Renditions
I love variations of the Little Mouse, Little Mouse hiding game. When I saw this one @sotomorrow I wanted to add it to my collection! I tweaked my pattern a little and since I have a circle diecut I just used it for my moon. I added some shiny glitter glue and we are all set for some fun! This will be a great time to use Laurie Berkner's wonderful song, 'Moon, Moon, Moon'. I sing this song as a lullaby when my grandsons sleepover! Singing and playing are so much Fun with Friends at Storytime! There are more great ideas on the Flannel Friday Roundup! Check out the wonderful resources on the Flannel Friday Pinterest Boards. Teach kids about the solar system with these fun books about space for kids! #space #solarsystem
For story time, I thought I'd break out some fun books about the moon and night time. These were perfect, and the kids had lots of fun with them!! Opening Song - Shake My Sillies Out by Raffi Book: Bringing Down the Moon by Jonathan Emmett Song: Flying Around the Moon (to the tune of She'll be Coming 'Round the Mountain) (taken from Preschool Express - moon songs and rhymes by Jean Warren) I changed a few of the words for my version: We'll be flying around the moon, yes we will! We'll be flying around the moon, yes we will! We'll be flying around the moon We'll be flying around the moon We'll be flying around the moon, yes we will!! Additional verses: We'll be landing on the moon We'll be blasting off again We'll be landing back on Earth Book: See You Soon, Moon by Donna Conrad Song: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Book: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, I'm off to the Moon by Dan Yaccarino Craft: Moon and Star Of course, it was also FMRNS!!! The feature for this time was a pretty intense drama. Soldier's Girl is a made for TV movie from 2003, starring Troy Garity and Lee Pace. This movie is based on true events and real people, and like I said, is pretty intense. It is pretty disturbing, and it just makes me sad to know that people can be so narrow minded and hateful. It has a very powerful message, and I am glad that it was on The List.
The moon is a constant in our night sky and often the first thing little kids know about when they start to learn about space and our solar system. This is a fun, cozy storytime that focuses on the moon. I recommend having kids come in their pajamas for this storytime. It has wonderful children’s […]
This is the first in a backlog of story times I have yet to post about, and it's the last in the series of moon-themed story times I performed at other branches in my system this July. All of my experiences were wonderful, but this one especially impressed me because there were so many kids in the 3 to 5 age range and because they were so attentive and so engaged. I had a great time! Opening song (with ukulele): Hello, how are you? Book: The Moon by Robert Louis Stevenson, illustrated by Tracey Pearson Campbell (2006) Song: Moon Moon Moon Song (with ukulele and flannel board): Aikendrum This is the only group where everyone clapped and pretended to strum all the way through this song. I think this was partly because I have gotten way more comfortable playing it since the summer started. Song: Here We Go Up, Up, Up Book: What's Up? by Mick Manning, illustrated by Brita Granstrom (1997) Song: Five Little Martians (based on One Little Monster) Song: Head and Shoulders, Baby Book: Wynken, Blynken, and Nod by Eugene W. Field, illustrated by Giselle Potter (2008) Song: Stars Shining Bright Book: Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! I'm Off to the Moon by Dan Yaccarino (1997) The best part of this story was having everyone count down with me from five. Song: Five Astronauts Went Up in Space Goodbye Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This
