I absolutely loved reading all your responses to my question "what do you HATE about store bought planners" It seemed we all had so many of the same issues which leads me to wonder...WHY ON EARTH HASN'T THIS ISSUE BEEN ADDRESSED! Alright then...if no one else is going to handle this...I will. I am going to take some time over the next few weeks to really get down to the root of the problem with common store bought paper planners and help you understand how a MOMager system could be helpful to you as well as hopefully helping you understand what your specific time management and agenda organizational needs are. Quit beating yourself up with the thoughts of "Why can't I just make this work!?" Sometimes you just have to realize that your not a round peg and your just not going to fit in that hole................but that's ok, some of the best people I know are as square as can be :) Source A couple years ago I was doing some research on Mom planners and I came across an article that talked about the "Pink it and Shrink it" design form that most large scale calendar and agenda companies used when making planners...they just figured "lets take our standard issue "man planner" color it pink with pretty flowers and make it cute and small....that outta satisfy female buyers!" And unfortunately...it kinda did... we took the bait. We were so excited to go in to the office supply stores and find pretty planners "JUST FOR US" lined up right next to the cold utilitarian man-planners. "LOOK!! the cover is PINK" we said! "Look at these inspirational quotes from influential women in history!" we proclaimed! "and LOOK there is a side bar for a "grocery list!" "and it even fits in my purse!!" we just couldn't contain ourselves. so we plunked down $35 on this new planner...got it home full of buyers joy and thoughts of "this is going to CHANGE.MY.LIFE....I'm FINALLY going to get it together!" then when we sat down and started to fill it in...and that's when our dreams of organizational calendar bliss went down the tube. THE BOXES AND LINES ARE TOO SMALL Shrink it? Really?? why! on average, women have larger "bubbly" hand writing so the small lines and boxes can never fit all our appointments...what should be one appointment taking up one line with "place & time" now takes up two, or your handwriting spills between the two and it all looks messy......their solution? Take away the lines! stopppppppp! why on earth would that be helpful? now our handwriting is slanty since it has no clear guide...and still the box is no bigger! THE MOMager SOLUTION The boxes in my monthly calendar that I keep inside my seasonal planner have 6 lines that are spaced to accommodate a 24pt font which is more than large enough for a bubbly hand writing. The calendar also spreads across 2 full pages so the boxes are large enough to get all your info for one appointment in on one line: "Dentist 4:00" all right there! A MOMager Tip: When thinking of Monthly Calendars think of it as the place holder. You are simply booking the time there so you don't double book, when given an item that needs to be scheduled it should always go in your monthly calendar first in a very simple form: Item, Time, Person. If there are more details needed, make note of these in your ramblings book. Then when you are stocking your folder for the week, grab your monthly calendar, and put any of this weeks happenings on your week at a glance page...this is now the space to add detail. So in Thursday's square we now write "Dentist 4:00 - cleaning w Cheryl in Rockwall" now I know exactly what is going on. BONUS TIP! I MOMage 4 people in my household; as well as my home, small business and volunteer positions. This means that I have a lot of stuff to keep track of...and the absolute best way for me is COLOR! I will go in to more detail at a later date about my really intricate highlighting system but basically I have a color for each individual in my family as well as the other items I handle. So instead of having to write out "Jason Dentist 4:00" which might be a bit squishy in that space...I simply highlight "Dentist 4:00" in light blue and I know that he is going to the dentist. VERY easy. Have you checked out The MOMager Shop? If you are wanting your very own MOMager system you can now order a completely custom planner system in either Digital OR Printed form! Need to Organize Your Entire Life? When you are organized, you get more done and accomplish things quicker than most. Here are 13 tips on how to organize your life today!
As I mentioned in several posts ago, I promise to give my blog reader to give my own design of organizing life planner. Actually I have plan to give it all together in one blog post. But, unfortunately because I'm too busy with my wedding preparation, the day, the moving time to Taipei, and also new registration for new students in campus, I can't do that. But, I will give one thing in here... the Daily Life Planner and Daily Budget. And of course..in PDF format so all of you can download it for free through dropbox... ^^ Those two planner, I made them first. why? Because... if you want to learn to be organized, learn the most simple thing first,.. Daily Life. This Daily Life Planner is designed for Muslim. Because it has the Hijriyah date place. So, Muslim will know what day in Hijriyah calendar is that day. Therefore, they can find out what deeds like fasting or other things that they can do on that day. Also it has Prayer checklist. Not only 5 times a day, but 8 times. In here I try to encourage Muslims to also pray Sunnah everyday.:) Mmm and don't forget to have Qur'an supplementary and book (any kind of books). You can put the first and last page of the book. So, you won't lost the next time you want to read your book. It also have the morning and before bed task. With this, you will try to do it everyday and will not forget for example like put out the trash, serve breakfast, put it the newspaper, etc. I always forget to put out the trash before I go to bed, that'swhy I put the before bed task in here. haha I also put the daily budget box in this daily planner. Why? Because sometimes...I can handle my ahnd to m pocket. I always try to buy something unnecessary. hahaha So, I have to try to be disciplined.I believe some of you also do the same. haha Nah... exercise and drink a lot of water are needed for every human every day in life. Because it is healthy. My husband always did that and he is very healthy. But, i need to try harder for this. Of course... the reminder to do fasting for Muslim. Maybe like Monday-Thursday fasting or another fasting day. :) Don't forget to put the Goals and Quotes of the day. They are important for reminder what you have to finish each day. The most important thing is the To Do List. This to do list, yo have to try every morning after Morning Prayer to sit down and write what you have to do in that day. Detailed is needed. You will be happy, trust me, in the end of the day, if you can check list all of your written to do list. ^^ Another thing is the Daily Budget. As my experience, as a student or maybe a housewife, we have a strict budget because we con't have a lot of money to spend with. We have to spend for school fee and eat. Or maybe books or any other necessary things. But, if we still keep buy and buy unnecessary things, you will lost! remember that! haha So, my solution is to make a daily budget for every day and write down whatever I spend on that day in this paper. Therefore, in each week I can count on how much I spent every week. Then, every month. In that case, for the next week or month I will know how I spend my money so I'm not gonna lost with myself. haha Also, in here I put a grocery shopping list. Why? Because sometimes when I go to market to buy groceries without write it down, I'd like to buy a lot of things that not in the list. And after I buy them, I will regret it. -_______-" Okay, so that's it for this post. I will continue the organizing life planner for weekly in the couple days later. Hope it can help you... ^^ You can download those through this link... --- Daily ToDos --- Daily ToDos 2 --- Daily ToDos 2 Color --- Daily Budget --- Daily Budget 2 --- Daily Budget 2 Color

Our March theme in the 52 Weeks of Printables series has been Finances and I thought it would be appropriate to share how we budget in preparation for this Friday's printable...a Monthly Budget Worksheet! Each month we print out a blank monthly budget worksheet and start filling it out based on what we expect our expenses to be for the month. Some questions we ask ourselves: - Are we planning to get haircuts this month? - What season is it...will our gas bill (heat) or electric bill (A/C) cost more or less? - Are we going to take a month off from going out to eat? - Are there any annual/semi-annual/quarterly bills due this month? Next, we add up all of the budgeted amounts in each category (auto, food, bills, etc). We like having categories because it balances out when you spend more in one area of a category and less in another. For example, in our Food & Dining category...groceries and dining out usually correspond with each other. If we buy more groceries, chances are we will go out to eat less and vice versa. Then we take the sum of the budgeted amounts in each category and subtract it from our expected income. We put this "leftover" money in our Everything Else category. It could probably be called our Emergency Fund (which we were glad to have last summer when our A/C died, or when we had to call a critter catcher to evict the squirrel living in our attic...you know, all the fun life events like that). The main purpose of the Everything Else category for us is to provide some cushion in our budget for unexpected or extra expenses. As we pay bills, we fill in the amounts for those expenses on our Bill Tracker and Budget Worksheet. Using the bill tracker helps us see trends in our fluctuating monthly bills to help us budget for the future. After the month has ended, we go back and fill in the blank areas, like gas and food that have multiple transactions, and add up each category's actual amounts. Then we add all the categories together and fill out the actual expenses box at the top. We subtract our expenses from our income and see what our Take Home amount was...hopefully it's a positive number!! A shortened version of the math: Beginning of month Add up budgeted expenses for each category Add up budgeted expenses from all categories (excluding Everything Else category) Subtract sum of all budgeted expenses from budgeted income (we'll call this "leftover" money) Record "leftover" money in Everything Else category under budget End of month Add up actual expenses in each category Add up actual expenses from all categories (including Everything Else category) Subtract actual expenses from budgeted expenses (and actual income from budgeted income) Find the difference by subtracting Total Expenses from Total Income This is how much you "took home" for the month...Positive number is a surplus for the month, Negative means you spent more than you made Here is a sample filled out Monthly Budget Worksheet: Check back on Friday for your free blank version of the Monthly Budget Worksheet!
