I know its been years (so sad) since I last wrote in my blog but I decided that this would be the year I stick to it. (We'll see how long it lasts, lol). I couldn't decide where to start. Four years is a long time to catch up on. What should I post first. After many a thought I came to the conclusion I should start with parties. Everyone loves a party. I've had 4 years of birthday parties to talk about. I've grown to love the stress and creativeness of planning a party on a shoe string budget. Don't get me wrong I'd love to spend the money my imagination would prefer, but lets face it we just can't. I mean I think anyone can have a beautiful party with a limitless budget. But its the real challenge of having a memorable blast on next to nothing... So my quest begins The Goob's first birthday party was your normal minimal decorated backyard party with piñata. We had just moved back to NY from NC a few weeks prior. Steve almost out of the Marines. We were living at my in-laws. So it was difficult to pull anything together. His second birthday was better. It was my first real children's party to plan. I had just taken wilton course 1 in cake decorating. And Goobie loved trains. I had my theme. I remind you this was before I found my beloved pinterest. So I had no help. I made train ticket invitations on publisher. I printed them out on a heavy cardstock. Next came the crazy idea, cardboard train. My husband looked at me like I had lost my mind. But I convinced him of the sheer awesomeness of it. I dove for 2 weeks straight in the cardboard dumpster behind the local appliance store to find the right size boxes. Then I proceeded to cut, tape, and glue myself a train. Looking back I wish I had painted it instead of using just electrical tape. I did make it so the kids could crawl right threw the front of the train. The smoke was just some white party balloons. I set up a few tables in the backyard under a tent. I had streamers and balloons. I did red table cloths and put blue painters tape tracks down the middle of the table. I had bandanas and red and blue lanterns for my centerpieces. I made the confetti with a hole punch. I bought bandanas and train hats for all the kids. As for the cake... it was my first attempt at any cake besides a 13x9 never leave pan cake really. I wanted a mountain with a train. So I made a mountain with a tunnel with a wooden Thomas coming threw. I made a few paper trees for the top. It seems kind of simple now but it amazed me at the time. I did the whole thing in buttercream (I had yet to venture into the world of fondant). I also made cupcakes. I use the same train from the invitations and a few different punches to make the cupcake toppers. All and all everyone had a good time, especially the kids. Plus it started my love of all things party :)

Thanks to Pinterest, this post is getting a lot of attention! I've made some edits to explain a few more things in pink! Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll answer them in the comments section! Thanks for visiting! **All Sesame Street Characters and pictures for this party were cut outs from the Sesame Street Friends and Sesame Street Fonts Cricut cartridges. I found them on EBAY!*** I still have some catch up to do from the last few weeks, but I know everyone wants to see my pictures from Luke's birthday party so here they are! Luke is way into Sesame Street (SS) these days. He knows all the characters and watches it at least once a day sometimes twice. So I was happy to do a Sesame Street party for him despite the amount of work it took! Luke woke up pretty happy on Saturday morning, I sang Happy Birthday to him and he loved it. He also loved all the decorations we put up the night before and pointed to all the SS characters. Right after breakfast we let him open his present from his G & G brown. He had a fun time ripping off the paper bits at a time. When Scott pulled it out the box he shouted "car" and we put it together quickly for him to push around which he did for a good 20 minutes. It's a bubble mower so we put the bubbles in it and took it outside. He would stop and look at the bubbles when they would come out--he was fascinated. The party didn't start until 11:30, we spent the morning cleaning up and working on Luke's cake! Scott helped a lot actually--he did all the red stars on the cake. I was impressed. Working on this cake made me realize I needed more than one frosting bag to decorate a cake. Oi. We used a wilton Elmo cake pan for the shape. I borrowed it from a friend---chances are you can find a neighbor or friend who has one! We had coloring pages for the kids to color when they came in. I just googled "Sesame Street Birthday coloring pages" and found a bunch free online The Letter of the Day was L for Luke, and Number was 2 for 2 years old I made this banner. I plan on laminating it and using it for future parties. All the characters I'm going to laminate and put in a quiet book or something for Luke. Random Party shot. Scott also made the cookie monster box. This was a game they could play--I made felt cookies and the kids toss them in to cookies mouth--feeding cookie monster. The cookies are two felt circles hot glued together--leave and opening and fill with rice--then glue it shut. Then hot glue black felt pieces on for the chocolate chips! We also had them play pin the nose on the Elmo--I wish I'd had a chance to get a picture of them actually doing it. We blindfolded the older kids but just let the little ones--Luke and Isaac--just stick the nose on.I made all the SS characters using SS Cricut cartridges. It made it a lot easier, but it was still tricky and time consuming. This was another game we played in the background--"Count the Cookies" Everyone just entered a guess as to how many cookies were in the jar (a cleaned out peanut butter jar) and the person who came closest got to take home the jar! So funny and somewhat not so funny story about the pizza. We ordered it at 11:30 and it was only supposed to take 30 minutes--arriving at just the right time for the party. However. An hour later, upon calling to find out what was up, we find that the delivery guy got in a car accident! They sent another guy to go retrieve our pizzas and bring them to our house, but they didn't get here until 1:15 (the party was supposed to be over at 1). Then we opened up the boxes and found that our pizzas didn't do to well in the accident themselves! They were all squished to the side! (and they were lukewarm, not hot like they should have been) After mostly everyone left, Scott called the manager and he gave us FIVE free future pizzas. sweeeet. I love how all the kids crowd around while the presents are opened. My brother Al, his wife Stephanie, and my younger brother Steve were able to come up during their lunch break at the bike shop. (They all work at Taylor's Bike Shop in Provo) Chilling on the stairs with Uncle Derek Birthday Cake Pictures! We have a really cute video of Luke dancing while everyone sings Happy Birthday to him. I'll have to work on getting that up this week. The End!

Our youngest son, Noah, turned three this month. Noah LOVES Hot Wheels cars. He has a little wagon full of Hot Wheels cars that he pulls around the house. He is constantly setting them up in lines, crashing them into walls or racing them down Hot Wheels tracks. And so it was no surprise that he wanted a Hot Wheels birthday party! We hosted the party at our local My Gym and he had a blast celebrating with his friends. Evite has great Hot Wheels themed invitations right now. They are super cute! Our invitation said "Come and RACE around the gym with me!". I found this shirt at Walmart for $5. Such a deal! It says "Nobody is faster than me!". The party was from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Since it was after lunch and before dinner, we served snacks and cake. I purchased the Hot Wheels tablecloth, hat, banner and napkins at Party City. They have a great Hot Wheels section. I had fun making all the snacks fit the theme. We served Red Vines as "Dipsticks". Rice Crispy Treats as "Stop Lights" Oreos as "Spare Tires" Chex Mix as "Nuts and Bolts" Water bottles as "Coolant". I found tape that looks like a road and used that to wrap the water bottles. We ordered this Hot Wheels cake from Walmart. Out little guy was thrilled! For the favor, each child got to go home with a goodie bag filled with some colorful candy and their very own Hot Wheels car. The goodies inside The party favors. I used this free printable: http://lessordinarydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/01/free-printable-i-wheel-y-like-you-hot.html?m=1 for the favor tags but changed the words to read: "I Am Wheel-y Glad You Came"! Happy 3rd Birthday Noah!
