Here is a delightful frock from 1937, apparently the perfect garment for outdoor fun. It appears to be cut on the bias, which always provides graceful flare and movement. I love the top-stitched center box pleat in the skirt front, the shaped yoke with wing revers, and that sporty action back. Wow, did you notice that she is wearing gloves to golf? How professional! :)

This is a digital draft-at-home pattern for a lovely sports dress from 1933. The dress features a wide yoke and collar in one bordered in contrasting trim. The narrow skirt has a slight pleated fullness at the hem. Please note: the original source material didn't include a back image. Dresses like this look amazing in a wide range of fabrics, but especially silk and rayon for a dressy look, or simple cotton for daily wear. Fabric: this pattern requires approximately 3 meters (about 3.5 yards). The original source material gave limited fabric requirements estimated for a 98 cm bust size. More or less may be required depending on the size you choose to draft. SIZING: This is a pattern from a French pattern drafting system fairly similar to the Lutterloh golden rule patterns. You will be able to draft a pattern to your exact size from the miniature pattern template and specially designed rulers. To draft any of these special patterns to doll, children, and adult sizes is easy. Rulers are available to draft the pattern as small as a 5 1/2" bust/hip to as large as a 60" bust/hip and the pattern will be scaled perfectly every time. ALL RULERS ARE INCLUDED AS PRINTABLES WITH THESE PATTERNS. Don't have a printer? Not a problem! We offer a printing service Add-on for these patterns. Simply add the printing service to your cart along with this pdf pattern. (You will still need to draft your pattern using the printed tools - we do not offer a drafting service at this time.) The pattern includes basic markings and notches that show you how they fit together, and indications such as dotted lines for cutting on the fold. I have included several pages of drafting instructions that I have translated from the original French personally. The illustrated instructions show you how to easily draw your pattern pieces from the miniature pattern template using your special ruler. These patterns were marketed originally to both home seamstresses and professionals alike and assume that you have a basic understanding of clothing construction. The original patterns DO NOT include any sewing instructions or facings. To sew these, you should have a basic understanding of how pattern pieces should fit together. The pattern pieces are illustrated in such a way that you can see how they are supposed to be sewn to each other. DIFFICULTY LEVEL: These patterns might be a bit difficult for the beginner but an intermediate level home seamstress will most likely have little trouble. For a complete tutorial on drafting your pattern including photos, check out this blog post. QUESTIONS? Check out our draft-at-home patterns FAQ page which included video tutorials! What you will need: Paper (I use large tracing paper but butcher paper, muslin fabric, wrapping paper etc all work great!) Pencil It's that simple! No special tools are required! Measuring band type: Class A If French is your first language and you would prefer a copy of the instructions in French, you can find them here.

ABOUT THE PIECE: The Colorsafe paintings are an exploration of the use of color and pattern. They are constructed from 'vintage' catalogs of the late 1960s / early 70s, a particularly turbulent time for social change in this country. Yet inside the pages of these traditional catalogs, where time often seems to stand still (frozen), white models and models of color were standing side-by-side in equal status as friends and having fun - posing in pairs, laughing, joking and sharing secrets. Given the racial divides of the time, were they just acting/modeling then or was there actual camaraderie? Was it just a set up? The patterns here are not just in the clothing, but also in the way we still see and speak. The title of the show Colorsafe comes from a detergent technology that protects colored clothing against bleach to preserve colorfastness. By using the language of garment care as painting titles, that can be read very differently taken out of context, I amplify the subtle racial tension embedded in our vocabulary that’s still with us today. "With like colors", "separates", "mixed blends" are all loaded terms that seep into our everyday experience of 'dirty' laundry. ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Color collides with pattern in James Rieck's strikingly brilliant paintings. Inspired by vintage clothing and catalogues, Rieck transforms pictures of consumerism into icons of pop culture. However, beneath these electric colors and forms is a question of how style affects how we engage with the world around us. PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We ship unframed prints internationally via DHL. The international shipping cost does not include the tax & duties, which will be the responsibility of the customer. Unfortunately, because of the high shipping cost we do not ship framed prints internationally at this time.
