Ner Mitzvah. Artist: Dov Abramson The print arrives rolled up in cardboard tube. Prints are all unframed, all photos are for demonstration purposes only. The original artwork, Ner Mitzvah, is a visual embodiment of the 613 mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah that Jews are instructed to observe. While the candles initially appear to have an industrial uniformity, closer inspection reveals that each label bears the text of an individual mitzvah along with symbols that stipulate who is obligated by the commandment (men, women, or both), when and where the commandment applies (the whole world or only in Israel), and the punishment that applies to those who transgress. Dov Abramson's piece suggests connections between the mitzvot at the same time that it cautions against rote religious observance and calls for a more attentive Jewish ritual practice.
This fun first taste of preschooler-friendly mitzvot is a very basic introduction to Jewish principles and to good behavior. Clever, humorous illustrations accompany rhyming text about important Jewish do's and don'ts. From respecting parents and grandparents and feeding the hungry to telling the truth and repairing the world (\"tikkun olam\"), each page highlights a different mitzvah in a way that's engaging and totally relatable for kids two years of age and older. This adorable introduction to mitzvot doubles as an early guide socially conscious behavior.
