I am teaching an honors level Geometry course next year. Most students in this class will have "missed" 7th and 8th grade Geometry since they jumped into Algebra 1 instead. Therefore, as a summer assignment we are giving students this note packet as a way to "catch up" and be prepared for High School Geometry. These notes are quite similar to the Pre-Algebra version. However, differences include: -more notations (symbols and markings on figures) -2 postulates (angle addition and segment addition) -additional vocabulary: bisect and partition -a new section on angle pairs -more complex examples (i.e. instead of an angle with only one point on each ray - quite easy to name - I've added points to make a more challenging example)

Adding ten points to everyone's grade doesn't always work. If you give ten points to a student with a 93, she now scores better than perfect after missing 7% of the assignment. Ten points given to a struggling student who earned a 57 also isn't tremendously helpful. If you want to give the lowe...

UPDATE HISTORY: - 05.31.23: Smoothie Recipe Cards added! - 05.22.22: Missing #7 card on page 51 added Here are some activities I set out for my Kindergarten students at the end of May and in June! What's included: LITERACY p. 2-9: SUMMER PRINTING {SIMPLE SENTENCES} - Tracing and printing simple sentences. A sentence per page to trace and print. There is a corresponding picture in the corner to help students read/decode the sentence. In both colour and B&W. The sentences are: - He is collecting sea shells. - That boy is surfing. - That girl is drinking lemonade. - She is eating ice cream. p. 10-14: Q-TIP SUMMER WORDS & PICTURES - Have your students use q-tip and paint to dot and draw the picture and print the corresponding word! Words included are sunglasses, octopus, fish, sun and beach ball. p. 15-18: SUMMER WORDS - A chart of summer words to add to your writing centre. Have students use them to copy the words or write a sentence with it. In both colour and B&W. Simple writing paper included. Words included on the chart are: sun, flip flops, swim shorts, sunglasses, swimsuit, sunscreen, popsicle, ice cream, fish, sand, shell, beach ball p. 19-23: DO-A-DOT LETTERS - Have students use bingo daubers or do-a-dot markers to dot print the letters and read the simple sentence! Sentences included are: - L is for lemonade. - F is for fish. - S is for starfish. - P is for popsicle. - W is for watermelon. p. 24-35: SUMMER SENTENCE SCRAMBLE - Cut and laminate the word cards. Set them out on a table, at the carpet or in a pocket chart and have students unscramble the words to make a corresponding sentence for each picture. Recording sheets with and without clip art are included. Sentences included are: - He is snorkeling. - My swimsuit is yellow. - Do you like watermelon? - The shark is grey/gray. - I have green sunglasses. - I love ice-cream! MATH: p. 37-42: SUMMER PRINTING {NUMBERS} - Tracing and printing numbers 1-10. Four numbers to a page (except for the last page which only has 2) with space to print numbers on their own after they practice tracing. In both colour and B&W. p. 43-48: COUNTING WATERMELON SEEDS - I set these mats out with black play dough or black beans. Students pick a card, place it in the box at the top left corner and put that many "seeds: on the watermelon. Great for practicing 1:1 correspondance. Numbers to 20 are included. Seeds you can cut out are also included in case you don't have black play dough or beans. A recording sheet is also included where the students can write down the numbers they made. p. 49-52: WATERMELON ADDITION - Again I set these out with black play dough or black beans (or you can cut out and use the seed clip art included). Students pick 2 number cards and then show the 2 numbers on the watermelon. Then they count how many they have all together and they can write the number or place a magnetic letter in the third box. A recording sheet is included where students can record 3 number sentences they made. p. 53-59: UNDER THE SEA SUBTRACTION - You can print either the subtraction from 10 or 20 mat, whichever one that works best for your group (I am using both this year to differentiate). Have students first make 10 or 20 with the included sea animal clip art or your own sea animal manipulatives. Then pick a number and place it on the equation. Have students subtract that many sea animals and finally write the answer or place the corresponding magnetic letter on the answer box. A recording sheet is included where students can record 3 subtraction sentences they solved. p. 60-62: SUMMER PATTERN BRACELETS - Have students make a pattern on the popsicles and name their pattern underneath. OR Have students cut out the squares with summer pictures and create a pattern on the blank bracelet template. Then have the students name the pattern underneath. p. 63-66: SUMMER SYMMETRY CUTTING SHEETS - A great way to review symmetry and practice scissors skills! Have students predict what the picture will be and fold the sheets in half on the dotted line. Then have students cut the dots, open and reveal the spring picture! p. 57-59: SUMMER SURVEYS - Have students practice their data collecting skills! Students will ask a question and collect data in the corresponding box. Then they will write which one had more votes. The 3 questions that are included are: - Which do you like more, ice cream or popsicles? - Which do you like more, pineapple or watermelon? - Which do you like more, fish or sharks? p. 70-73: SMOOTHIE RECIPE CARDS - Have student follow the recipe card to make a fruit smoothie! Set these cards out with plastic cups, straws and loose parts that are red, yellow, green and blue (I used pom poms and added tweezers for extra fine motor practice!) You can also give the students the option to make their own recipe cards using the black and white copies! I hope you enjoy doing these activities with your students!
