If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’re trans, or know (or even love) someone who is, so I don’t need to tell you: life as a trans person is, at times, hard. To that end, I’ve recently struggled with that which I don’t have, or that which I don’t think I can obtain, or achieve... but today, it occurred to me: what a foolish thing to ponder at this time of year. Or perhaps, even, at any time of year. So this morning, I made the conscious decision to be grateful for each step, whether taken in stilettos or not; to appreciate every friend and each kind word; to relish the kisses and smiles from my beautiful children; to savor the bouquet of each breath like a fine wine; and to cherish every moment during which I have the privilege to spend on this great and cosmically tiny rock spinning wildly into the universe. As Mr. Vonnegut once wrote: “Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and find they were the big things.” Today will be a good day. I will it. Be true to yourselves, dear friends, and I promise to do the same. Kisses, Amanda Nicole
... but I'm trying to take them. Another day to indulge, but not another day to remain trapped inside my house. I successfully exited and re-entered my neighborhood this morning, but didn’t find the courage to step from the car while I was out. Next time! Remember to be true to yourselves, and I'll do the same. Kisses, Amanda Nicole And yes, that’s my “Don’t confuse your Google search with my medical degree” mug. ;)
This rubric was used after a unit on empathy. My grade 5 class had to create a comic strip demonstrating an ethical dilemma on empathy. My students worked in groups of 2-3 and had approximately 5 classes to complete this assignment. I decided to have my students draw out their comic strips by hand without giving them a template, as it allowed for their creative juices to flow. :) Students can also use different apps such as Comic Life, and PicCollage to design their comic strips in order to promote the use of technology in the classroom (there are so many cool possibilities!) The criteria for my rubric is as follows: Content - an ethical dilemma is apparent in their comic strip and concrete detail is used. Graphics - the graphics are highly creative and a variety of colours are used. Use of Time - Students used their time wisely and worked together as a team, delegating tasks.
“There is nothing in this world to be prized more than true friendship.” -T. Aquinas This morning, I awoke to a message from one of my friends that profoundly touched me. Among other things, this woman who I admire greatly for her beauty in mind, spirit, and body helped me to realize that I’m traveling the right path, even though I feel lost. And that’s what true friends do, isn’t it? To provide each other with love and support, particularly through the difficult times: to lend an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a word to comfort, a laugh to celebrate. And this morning's kind words provided the spark I needed to make my Monday a joyous one. To all of you who provide me with such love and joy, support and comfort: thank you. I am truly fortunate. I hope that I return the love in equal parts. Remember to stay true to yourselves, and I’ll do the same. Kisses, Amanda Nicole
It’s been over a year since last I saw my shrink, but events in the past few months have pushed me back into the fold of “talk therapy.” As one of my 2018 Resolutions is to be bolder with my life, I figured there was no time like the present... and I inaugurated my return to therapy by arriving as Amanda. It was exhilarating and validating. I felt comfortable and natural… and alive. And 5 years from now, I will look back on today (while quite probably laughing at my wardrobe choice and makeup skills) with pride at having conquered a fear, and for having lived just a little more boldly than I have for the prior 4 decades. My session was wonderful - open and honest - and we were able to discuss things that I’d have felt uncomfortable examining had I arrived in “boy drag.” While not all of my sessions can occur with me presenting as Amanda, today’s ensures success that there will undoubtedly be many more to come. And then… Yes, I made a total noob move today, and may receive FAIL OF THE DAY Award. I forgot to have her take a photo of me in her office! AMATEUR! So, here I am on my couch at home. You get the idea, right? __ Remember to be true to yourselves, friends, and I will continue to do the same. Kisses, Amanda Nicole
I can’t believe the last time I posted here was the January before the pandemic. It’s been a long 22 months, and my trans journey has been stalled for most of it while I was forced to focus most of my energies to fighting the ravages of the coronavirus - physical, mental, emotional. But it’s time to find my way again. This photo is pre-pandemic, but I hope to return with some new photos soon. I’m the meantime, I’m hoping to reconnect with as many of my friends as possible… and maybe even make it back into public in 2022!! Kisses, Amanda Nicole
