This is meant as an introductory worksheet into lenses and mirrors. It simply has space to define some key terms associated with lenses and mirrors (concave, convex, reflection, refraction, converging, diverging, real image, virtual image) as well as some basic illustrations of each type of device (convex lens, concave lens, convex mirror, concave mirror). I always start with this before leading into the unit, that way students have had a little intro on the terminology we will be using in class. :) Note: I think it is also helpful to supplement this worksheet with additional photographs and demonstrations to help illustrate the terminology. In particular, when we start drawing the converging and diverging rays on the second page, I pull out the light ray box with some different lenses and mirrors and put it under the document camera, projecting the light rays on the screen in front of the class. Together we go through what happens to the initially parallel rays when I place the different devices in front them. I think seeing this helps the students to connect better with the light rays they are meant to be illustrating in their ray diagrams. :) Includes answer key.
