Just a quick one today. I made this using Damask Decor cut #38 card function at 6". The paper is from the DCWV Mademoiselle stack and I added some stickles and a tag that I corner punched with a Fiskars punch and added the Fiskar's sentiment. I also added a black strip of paper that I embossed with a Tim Holtz folder. Not my favorite but, quick and easy. :)

Today is the Grand Finale of Baby Week! HOW TO MAKE A DIAPER CAKE When I wanted to make a diaper cake for my daughter's baby two years ago, I searched for online tutorials, and each one I found gave directions to individually roll each diaper and wrap with a rubber band. In addition to me not wanting to roll 84+ diapers with a rubber band and knowing that the mother of a newborn does not have time to unwrap all of those diapers, I came up with a different way, much easier to make and dismantle. What you will need: 84+ disposable baby diapers (any size) white curling ribbon decorating ribbons (1 spool of each type you want to use) twist ties double sided tape baby items to attach to the cake {suggested items: pacifier, thermometer, rattle, hand mittens, socks, teethers, booties etc.} and something for the cake topper {stuffed animal, baby shoes, small book, etc.} cake pedestal (optional) Directions: Note: I have not counted how many diapers I put in each layer; you can guess and make them the size you want. You can use as many diapers as you want to make the cake bigger or use different sizes for each layer. For this cake I used Pampers Newborn Swaddlers 84 pack. 1) Take about 1/2 of the diapers (40-50) for the bottom layer and place on sides and start stacking side by side, making a spiral. Keep them all going in the same direction. 2) When you have them in a nice round, spiral shape, take a piece of white curling ribbon and tie around the center. Tie it as tight as you can (a third hand/finger is helpful here) and cut the ends so they will not show behind the decorative ribbon. If necessary, to make larger, you can add an empty paper towel cardboard roll cut to the diaper height and put in the center. 3) Use about 2/3 of the remaining diapers for the middle layer and 1/3 for the top layer and repeat process of making a spiral circle and tying tight with curling ribbon. 4) Start decorating with your pretty ribbons. I used 1-1/2" wide satin around the middle and then rick rack or smaller ribbon in the center for a double layer effect and added rick rack on the bottom of the layers for a frosted border look. You can do whatever you want. I use a strong double-sided tape {sorry it's out of the package so I can't give you the name of it} to attach the ribbon, but you can attach with Scotch double-sided tape or straight pins if you want. I just like keeping this baby cake kid friendly with no pins. 5) Now you can add the icing on the cake :) with a bunch of little baby gifts. Remove from packaging, if necessary (I put the packaging and directions in a gift bag for the mother-to-be). Most items can be tucked into the diapers with the tags or with a twist tie wrapped around the item. Put things all around the cake so it looks pretty from all sides. I added a lollipop stick and tied the baby mittens to the top with ribbon which looked like little suckers that can be tucked under the side ribbons. You can also tie up onesies with ribbon and use twist ties to attach to the cake and tuck into diapers. 6) Add the cake topper and place on a cake pedestal if desired. More inspirations and ideas from other cakes . . . Have fun making your baby diaper cake! These are a hit at the party, next to the mom and baby, of course. This morning I'm reminiscing about how much fun I had planning the games for my BFF's baby shower back in 2008 (I can't believe little peanut is 5 now!). I was in charge of the shower games. I remember scouring the internet looking for free baby shower games. Most of them were SUPER hceesy and
I am always on the look out for unique and fun clothing ideas for Savannah, and was excited when I stumbled upon Funsies a few months ago. This online store, which opened recently, offers funny onesies for babies, with a variety of cute sayings and designs. I had the owner, Curtiss, send me the "Night Owl" onesie for Savannah. I found this onesie fitting, as she has turned out to be night owl, staying up until 11:30PM to midnight, and sleeping in next day. When I received the onesie, I couldn't help but smile and laugh at the cute design. That night, I tried the long-sleeve onesie out with Savannah and was impressed at the high quality material it was made out of. I have bought other onesies online in the past, but was disappointed when the received it, and it was either cheap in material quality, it was smaller than expected, or once washed, the design faded or was ruined. Savannah has worn this Funsies onesie a few times since we received it, and it looks new after it is laundered. The design is still vibrant. If you like fun and unique clothing for your little one, you must check out the Funsies website. And, best of all, you can't beat the prices (Only $15.00) and selection. All designs are printed on 100% 30-1 ringspun cotton onesies. Sizes range from 0-3 months to 12-18 months. Just check out a few of the designs available. ---BUY NOW--- Click here to head on over to the Funsies online store today and begin shopping. And, just for Inspired by Savannah readers, make sure to use coupon code "thoid" at checkout to receive 35% off your entire order. So, what are you waiting for? Disclosure: I was sent a sample from Funsies in order to write up an honest review. The views above are mine and mine alone.
Ok...This is my FIRST tutorial ever so forgive me if I'm not clear and the pictures may be a little dark. Next time I will take the time to ...
When I saw the curly deco mesh wreaths on the Internet recently, I knew I wanted to find out how to copy them. They have a fun and festive look to them with the deco mesh being cut in short pieces then rolled into spirals. My local craft stores don't have a good selection of deco mesh but I heard of a store about a thirty minute drive away that had more to choose from. I drove over to check it out. The store did have about forty colors of deco mesh and also lots of wreaths made up for sale. I took a sneak peek at the backs of the curly deco mesh ones to figure out how they were constructed. My shopping cart was full of deco mesh rolls at checkout. The store did have the official deco mesh "work wreaths" for sale but I found when I made some deco mesh wreaths a few months ago that you really don't have to have them. A plain (and less expensive) wire wreath from the floral section at the craft stores works just fine. This one is a 16" wreath form and was $4 at Hobby Lobby. Other supplies for the wreath were four rolls of deco mesh. At the store I purchased these from, the plain colors were $6 a roll and the ones with multicolors or metallic threads were $12 a roll. On most deco mesh rolls the mesh is 21" wide and 10 yards long. An inexpensive pre-made little scarecrow came home with me too as a wreath embellishment. To make the spirals, use the entire width of the mesh and cut it in 9" to 12" lengths (it doesn't have to be exact). Tightly roll the piece of mesh in the center and keep it pinched. The finished edges of the mesh will be on the ends of the tube. Roll 4-5 mesh pieces this same way. Try to keep them pinched in the middle and collect the centers together. Use a pipe cleaner (I think they are called chenille stems these days) to secure the centers together. Twist it as tightly as possible to keep the centers rolled and secured together. Here is what the spiral set will look like held together with the pipe cleaner: Place the spiral set on top of the wire wreath (the rounded side). Secure the spiral set onto one of the form's wires with the pipe cleaner and twist it on tightly. Take the left over pipe cleaner "legs" that are now on the backside of the wreath form and twist them along other wires on the form. What you are trying to do with this step is to keep the spiral set from moving along the wreath wires. Here's how the wreath looks with the first few sets of mesh attached: The choice of colors is up to you. I chose four fall colors but you can vary that for the season or occasion you want. Your wreath might have more or less than four colors. To look nice and full, it took about three mesh sets for each section (where a vertical wire crosses over the horizontal curved wire) of the wreath. Here's the wreath about half way around: At this point, I realized the wreath was going to be bigger than I had thought it would be. Here's the completed wreath from the backside: Looks kind of like of like a sassy tutu! Here's how my "no rhyme or reason" zig zag pipe cleaner attachment technique looked: From the back, push the spirals in the middle towards the front of the wreath to add fullness. Another tip: to help the spirals regain their tightness, roll the spiral around your finger, then release. Here's the wreath on a 32" wide door: Yes, it is large but it is easy to see from the street and makes a big impact. Remember my original scarecrow wreath embellishment? I thought maybe he looked too small on that big wreath. I got a bigger scarecrow to try since he might be more proportional to the 120 spirals of Fall fun. However, he did cover up more of the spirals...which one do you like best? The total cost for this wreath was $35. If you want at little less Fall fun with a spiral deco mesh wreath, try this exact same technique on a 12" wire wreath form... it will still be impressive but a little bit smaller than this one. Other ways to make door decor with the deco mesh is to go around the edge of a circle or heart wreath form or to make a pumpkin, Santa belly, or Valentine going across a wreath form. Also you can string the mesh along a wire to make a garland.
