Good Morning Blogging Friends! Spring has finally arrived! I am so happy about that and it shows in my vintage mini book that I have ...
Here it is - the 23rd challenge for the Compendium of Curiosities III - the Collection Folio found on Page 34 of Tim's third book! I will confess I was a bit nervous about taking on this challenge on as it looked like quite the task! However, it has turned out to be one of the most rewarding challenges I have done! I decided I would use my maternal grandmother, Eunice Blanch Wood, as my inspiration as she was truly one of the strongest people I have ever known. She was also kind, loving, faithful and patient, attributes that I will always remember. I was also blessed to be the granddaughter she wanted to have her photos, so I have lots of wonderful photos to work with. It was hard to fit them all in! Here is the cover of the folio: I originally resisted using Tim's Wallflower Stash as I use it quite frequently, however, it is truly my all-time favorite paper and I couldn't bear not to use it for this project! Don't ever discontinue it, Tim! I removed the elastic closure and covered the entire folio with the paper with the exception of a few of the "fold-over" areas. I then cut out my favorite picture of my grandmother with an oval die and oval scalloped die and mounted it on green and brown card stock. I used Tim's Alterations Typeset die to cut the letters for her name. After this was done, I reattached the elastic closure through the designated holes, adding a Word Band to the top before threading it through the last hole. Now it's time for another confession! I tend to generally "play it safe" with colors and textures. However, I finally decided I needed to step out of my comfort zone and go crazy! I did this with the inside piece of the folio that the photos and ephemera are attached to. Here is what it looked like when I started: I used Tim's Frameworks Trellis Die as well as the Latticework stencil along with Peeled Paint, Antique Linen, Forest Moss and Gathered Twigs Paint. The fun then began! I have to admit that it took me two full days to put this together, however, I wanted it to be extra special. I also had lots of photos I wanted to incorporate. You certainly don't have to put as much as I did into this project - just select a theme you like and go for it! For the inside cover of the folio I used one of Tim's Mini Cabinet Cards and placed my grandmothers baby's picture in it! I always laugh when I see it as she looks so startled. I used this photo for the first challenge and turned the photo into a birthday card. I die cut a banner from Tim's Sizzix Alterations Tattered Banners strip and hand wrote her birthdate. To finish this cover I added two photos of the farm where she was born in Alva, Oklahoma. On the right side I sandwiched two new Elementary Flashcards, one that said "family" and the other "story" over the first cascading flap. These Flashcards have such wonderful words on them! Love them! On the right hand side of the second cascading flap I attached two photos of my grandmother's family. I used an Industrious Frame from the new Gallery set to frame her parents' wedding picture. Some photo corners from the same set were used in all four corners of the family photo. I used the Alpha Parts: Newsprint letters to spell out the word "Family" at the top of the photo. For the back of the second cascading flap I added two more photos which I adhered to not only the flap, but also the reverse side of the photos on the opposite side. I used the Life Quotes Remnant Rubs to add some words. The right side of the third flap features my Great-Grandmother Mamie. I used a library pocket I had in my stash. I laid it on its side and covered part of it with paper from the Wallflower Stash. After placing the photo on a brown mat, I adhered it over the paper and added some Alpha Tiles to spell out her name. I tucked in a tag I colored with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Inks and stamped with a B-Line Designs Gorgeous Fabric background. I added another Elementary Flash Card and then a Remnant Rub from the Botanical set to the card. I finished the front of the flap die by cutting and adding a Tim Alterations Distressed Doily die cut and fussy cutting a rose image from the Wallflower Stash paper (one of my favorite things to do). The last touch was the addition of an ephemera piece from the Emporium Ephemera Pack. Close up of the tag: I used the reverse side of the third flap for one photo plus another Flash Card and some fussy cut images from the Wallflower Stash paper to create a nature collage. I also stamped the tag on the reverse side with a stamp from Wendy Vecchi's The Beauty of Art stamp set. Here's a close up of the reverse side of the tag: On the right side of the fourth flap I used two large #10 tags. I adhered a reduced size copy of my grandmother's graduation certificate to the top tag. I used two B Line Designs stamps for the bottom tag, Women are like Buttons and Button Collage that I stamped lightly with Antique Linen Distress Ink. Another photo was placed on this tag along with a Life Quotes Remnant Rub, Stencil Mark and Chit-Chat sticker. Both tags were finished with a strip from the Industrious Gallery Stickers, two bows made from Crinkled Ribbon, a Ring Fastener and a Graphic 45 Shabby Chic key. Another Flash Card with an image from the Botanical Remnant Rubs can be found in the center of the flap. The left side of the fourth flap features two #8 tags to which have been added Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress inks and adhered to the larger #10 tags on the opposite side. I decorated the tags with another photo, my grandmother's wedding announcement, a flower from the new Emporium Ephemera pack, two bows made from burgundy seam binding that was crinkled, an photo is an oval frame from the Industrious Gallery Stickers with a photo, a Flash Card with a Botanical Remnant Rub and a metal key (sorry - not sure where this is from) and a floral stem from Nature Adornments. The left side of the fifth flap was adorned with photos of my mother and uncle in Industrious Gallery Frames and finished with words from Chit-Chat stickers. The back of the library pocket on the opposite side was decorated with another photo and Label Letters spelling my mother's name. I also attached a gingham ribbon bow by Creative Impressions to the tag front. Here's a close up of the tag front: Finally the back of the tag was stamped with a border from Wendy Vecchi's The Beauty of Art set and a stamp from Wendy's new Art and You set. Close up of the reverse side of the tag: Finally, the last flap was adhered to the back of the folio and a large photo of my grandparents on their honeymoon was placed on top. A later photo of my grandmother was adhered to the top inside flap and a photo with me in it was adhered to the inside bottom flap and a fussy cut image from the Paper Stash was glued over the photo and onto the paper. I had to move from my small studio to the dining room table to spread everything out for this project. Here is what it looked like (I'm embarrassed to say): I would bet that many of you can confess to the same thing! Am I right? Wow, that was a much longer post than I had intended, however, there are so many details I wanted to share with you. Now it's your turn to create something beautiful with this wonderful Collection Folio and share it with us. As usual, head on over to the lovely Linda Ledbetter's site, read the rules for the challenge and start creating! For this 23rd Challenge, Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring a shopping spree in the amount of $50.00 for one randomly chosen winner. Tim and Mario have a fabulous prize package for the winner of the Curiosity Crew Choice. Good luck to everyone and have fun! Susan
Hello crafty friends!! I am finally back today with a cute little mini album I made with my Silhouette Cameo to share with you all! You can find the cut file in the Silhouette Design Store here. This is my finished project: I really love how this little album turned out! I don’t make a […]
Welcome to a FULL tutorial for this beautiful, Ocean Blue mini album! We will make a 6 ¼” x 6 ¼” x 2 ½” mini album to hold photos, journaling, and ephemera. It is easy to customize this album to fit your needs. I will show you how to make a waterfall element inside the front cover of the album, plus we will add lots of flips, flaps, tuck spots, and pockets! Let’s get started! You need three pieces of heavy to medium weight chipboard to create the album base. Cut two pieces for the covers to 6 ¼” x 6 ¼”. Cut the spine piece to 6 ¼” x 2 ½”. Splice together tan cardstock to make a piece that measures 8 ¼” tall and 17 ½” wide. Place your chipboard pieces onto the cardstock, with a one-inch border all the way around. Make sure to space your spine chipboard piece approximately ¼” from the cover pieces to allow the album to open and close without cracking the cardstock. Cut the corners of the cardstock an an angle, as shown. Add double-sided adhesive to the tabs. Then wrap your cardstock around the chipboard to give a finished edge. Gently score the gaps to open and close the covers. Be careful so that you don’t tear or crack the cardstock. The mini album will have six pages (12 sides). To make the hinges, cut six pieces of tan cardstock to 6 ⅛” x 1". Score each in half, fold and burnish. Place double-sided adhesive on one side of each score line, as shown. Cut two pieces of tan cardstock to 6 ⅛” x 1 ½”. Score both pieces at ½” and add double-sided adhesive to the ½” tab. Set these two pieces aside for now. To add your first hinge, line up the fold of the hinge piece with the very edge of the spine chipboard piece, with the fold on the LEFT. The ½” hinge will stick up, and the ½” gutter will be to the right of the fold. For the second hinge, place the fold to the RIGHT and overlap the gutter from hinge number one. The gutter for hinge number two will be up against hinge one. For hinges three through six, make sure the fold is to the RIGHT. The gutter for each hinge should be placed up against each previous hinge, as shown. There should be a ½” gutter between each hinge. For hinge number six, line up the fold of the hinge piece with the very edge of the spine chipboard piece, with the fold on the RIGHT. This is what your project should look like so far. The six hinges will cover the spine piece. Each hinge is 1/2" high and there is a 1/2" gutter between each hinge. Locate the two pieces of tan cardstock you cut to 6 1/8" x 1 1/2". Place the 1/2" section on top of the first hinge to secure it in place (this will make the first hinge a double thickness). Once the piece is attached to the hinge, glue the 1" section to the inside front cover. Burnish and gently score the spine gap. Repeat with the last hinge and back inside cover. (This piece simply reinforces the spine. Cut five strips of Ocean Blue Antigua paper to 6" x 3/8" and sponge the edges with brown or tan ink. Attach one paper strip to each hinge gutter, as shown. Gently fold the hinges back and forth to make them more flexible. Trim two pieces of Fiji paper to 6 1/8" x 6 1/8" and attach to the inside covers. (Sponge all papers for this project with ink, such as Decades Dark Cashmere, if desired.) Tip: To keep from damaging your outside covers, decorate them last. Make sure to set aside enough paper and one ephemera card for your covers to make sure you have enough. Let's add the pages to the mini album. Trim six pieces of tan cardstock to 6 1/8" x 6 1/8". Round the corners on one side of each page. Place adhesive on the left side of each hinge. Tip: I like to add my pages first, and then decorate them. I have fewer mishaps if I do it this way! Attach a page to each hinge. Don’t worry that your hinges are showing on one side. Once we add the decorative paper, the hinge will be hidden. Trim decorative paper for each page. Each decorative panel should measure 6" x 6". You will need twelve (12) pieces. Round the outside corners. Once you have paper on all the panels, you can decorate as desired. (See photos below.) Tip: Cut the various printed papers to size, and then decide how you want them to be arranged before attaching paper to the pages. Once you are happy with the arrangement, glue everything down. Let’s make the waterfall element before we decorate any of the pages. To create the waterfall section inside the front cover, cut five panels from tan cardstock to 4 5/8" tall by 3 1/8" wide. Score on the short side at 1/2". Round the corners opposite your score lines. Fold on the score lines, making sure to fold the 1/2" tab to the back of the panel. Place double-sided adhesive onto the resulting 1/2" tabs. Start at the top edge of the cover and add your panels. Line up the first panel with the top edge of the cover, in the center of the cover. Continue to attach the panels, lining up the folded edge of each panel to the bottom edge of the tab of each previous panel. Place a magnet onto the top waterfall panel as shown above. Cut a strip of tan cardstock to 4" x 1" and wrap it from the bottom of the cover up to the top waterfall panel. (You need to add this panel BEFORE adding your decorative paper to the FRONT of your mini album.) Add a magnet to the strip. The magnet will line up with the magnet you placed on the first waterfall panel. Cut two pieces of decorative paper to 3 ⅜” x ⅞” and cover both sides of the cardstock strip. Round the corners if desired. This closure will also help your waterfall to stay neat and tidy. Cut five pieces of dark blue cardstock to 4” x 3” and use to mat five (5) ephemera cut-aparts from Cozumel paper (trim the cut-aparts to 3 ⅞”x 2 ⅞”). Round the corners, as shown. Tip: If you have the Ocean Blue Ephemera and Journaling cards, you may use them instead of the cut-aparts. Add one of the matted ephemera cut-aparts to the top of each waterfall panel. Trim five (5) pieces of decorative paper to 3" x 4" and add to the back of the waterfall panels. Round the corners as shown. Cut five (5) decorative paper strips to ⅜” x 3” and add to the tabs of each waterfall panel. Add an embellishment to the top of the closure strip, if desired. I added a sea turtle charm. Let’s decorate the pages of our album! Create a little notebook for Page One. Cut dark blue cardstock to 8 ¼” x 4 ⅛”, score at 4 ⅛” and burnish. Round the corners. Cut two (2) pieces of tan cardstock to 8” x 4” and score at 4”. Round the corners. Cut one yard of blue twine. Fold the cardstock together and secure with twine to make a fun little notebook for some journaling. Add decorative paper to the blue cardstock panels. Cut the paper to 4” x 4” and round the corners as shown. Glue the little booklet to the center of Page One. Decorate the front of the booklet with a border stip and a cut apart image. Pages Two and Three. We will create a pocket and two photo mats for Page Two. Cut tan cardstock to 7 ⅛” x 3 ½” and score on three sides at 1/2" to make the pocket tabs. Place double-sided adhesive on the tabs, fold and burnish, making sure the adhesive side is toward the page. You want to glue the pocket to the page, not to itself! Attach the pocket to the right edge of the page as shown above. Trim decorative paper to cover the pocket to 6” x 2 ⅞”. Decorate the pocket with cheesecloth, a seahorse charm, a small shell, a small piece of sea glass, and a fussy cut postage stamp image. To create photo mats, cut tan cardstock to 5 ⅞” x 4” and round the corners. Tip: To create interest on photo mats and journaling spots, draw a design around the edges with a dark blue journaling pen or marker. Cut a large photo mat for Page Three. Trim tan cardstock to 5” x 5”, round the corners, and attach the cardstock to the center of Page Three. Add a small, glass bottle of glitter and beads to the corner of the photo mat. I used a rolled “message” as the bottle stopper. I also added a fussy cut postage stamp image. Tip: Be careful when attaching embellishments to photo mats. You want to make sure that you can slip your photos under the embellishments. Pages Four and Five. To create the band on page four, cut a border strip from the decorative paper, and attach on either edge with foam adhesive. You can now tuck photos, journaling pages, or ephemera under the band. The angled pocket on Page Five is easy to make. Cut a square of tan cardstock to 6" x 6" and cut it in half diagonally. Set one of the resulting triangles aside. Score the triangle on the two 90 degree edges at ½” to make the pocket tabs. Attach the pocket to the lower left corner of Page Five. Trim decorative paper to 4 ⅞” x 4 ⅞” and cut in half diagonally. Use one of the resulting triangles to decorate the pocket. Set the other triangle aside. To make the card, trim tan cardstock to 11” x 4 ¼” and score at 5 ½” on the long side to make an A2 size card. Round the bottom corners. Trim two pieces of decorative paper to 5 ⅜” x 4 ⅛” and attach one to the front and one to the back of the card. Trim an ephemera card from the decorative paper and attach to the card front. The inside of the card is perfect for journaling. Tuck the card into the pocket. Pages Six and Seven. Trim out an ephemera card and attach it to the top of Page Six to make a tuck spot. To make the flip card for Page Seven, trim tan cardstock to 11” x 4 ¼” and score at 5 ½” on the long side to make an A2 size card. Round the bottom corners. Glue the flip card to the center of Page Seven. Trim a piece of decorative paper to 5 ⅜” x 4 ⅛” and attach it to the front of the card. Trim two more pieces of decorative paper to 5 ⅜” x 4 ⅛” and attach them to the inside of the card, rounding the corners as shown. Pages Eight and Nine. Trim border strips (and a sticker strip) to create tuck spots on both pages. Pages Ten and Eleven. Follow the directions for Page Two to create a pocket and two photo mats for Page Ten. Decorate the pocket with a cut apart. Follow the directions for Page Five to create a diagonal pocket and card for Page Eleven. Decorate the pocket with sea glass, stones, and a fussy cut postage stamp image. Tuck the card into the pocket. Page Twelve and the inside back cover. Trim a border strip to create a tuck spot for Page Twelve. For the inside back cover, create a large pocket, as shown. Trim tan cardstock to 7 ¼” x 4 ½”. Score on three sides at ½” from the edges. Fold the tabs, then add adhesive to the tabs and attach the pocket to the left side of the inside back cover as shown. Trim decorative cardstock to 6" x 3 ⅞” and attach to the pocket. Add an ephemera card to the pocket, as shown. Create a 5 ¾” x 5 ¾” top-fold card from tan cardstock. Trim decorative paper to 5 ⅝” x 5 ⅝”, rounding the corners as shown. Attach the paper to the front of the card. Add an ephemera card tuck spot to the front of the card. Trim two more pieces of decorative paper to 5 ⅝” x 5 ⅝”, rounding the corners as shown. Attach the paper to the inside panels of the card. Add a fussy cut image as shown. Trim decorative paper to 5 ⅝” x 5 ⅝”, rounding the corners as shown. Attach the paper to the back of the card. Place the card into the pocket. Let’s decorate the covers of your mini album! I always decorate my covers LAST. I am pretty rough on the covers while I am decorating the inside, so I like to save the covers until the end. Tip: When saving your covers for last you MUST plan ahead to insure that you save enough paper to decorate the covers and spine. For the front cover, cut a piece of decorative paper that is just slightly smaller than 6 1/4" x 6 1/4". Attach the paper to the cover. Mat one of the ephemera cards cut from Cozumel paper with dark blue cardstock. Attach the image to a piece of scrap chipboard and then glue it to the center of the cover. Decorate the cover with cheese cloth, twine, shells, and a tiny bottle of sand. Glue some beads to one corner of a postage stamp image and glue the stamp to the top of the twine as shown. Cut paper to 6 ¼” x 2 ½” for the spine. Attach a Shabby Chic Keyhole to the spine as shown. Add silver Matte Pearl Gems to the keyhole, then add a fussy cut postage stamp image. Use foam tape to attach the postage image. Cut decorative paper that is just slightly smaller than 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" and attach it to the back cover. You are finished! Thanks for joining me today! I do want to give credit where credit lies, I followed the wonderful tutorial by Shellie at Designs by Shellie. Mine isn't just like hers but very close. I love making these and with the wonderful stamps, dies and paper from Heartfelt Creations it's so easy!!!! Thanks for dropping by and having a look, hope you like and will give one a try.

There are nine concentric sized tags and I cut one each from the thickest white cardstock I own from Bazzill Basics and then I cut another from these patterned papers, going from smallest to biggest: Paper 05 B-side, Paper 15 B-side, Paper 09 B-side, Paper 24, Paper 11 B-side, Paper 14 B-side, Paper 03, Paper 18 B-side, and Paper 09. I machine stitched the patterned paper tags to every coordinating cardstock tag using a matching colored thread. Then I wanted to add mixed media to the background of every tag so first I applied a layer of white gesso and then splashed white acrylic paint on top. Once that dried I splashed my new favorite Prima - Pastel Dreams watercolors tone-on-tone over every tag. Then I die cut my Textures Background cut file using a Silhouette Cameo 3 and scraped modeling paste through it, one texture on each of the nine tags. Time for adding the photos and embellishments! The super cute paper bead tassels charm is from my talented friend Lisa Fonseca. Isn't it so cute? I need 100 more :) On the first/smallest tag I made the title using the rainbow Foam Mini Thickers to say Innsbruck - three letters in each of the three rows - I do love a grid design! I created the "AUSTRIA" part from the mini alphabet stickers included in the 4-page Sticker Book. I added a tiny sticker strip also from the Sticker Book underneath. On every tag I stitched a piece of ribbon at the bottom and here I used pink ric-rac from the Turn the Page Ribbon. Also on every tag I punched a hole reinforcer from a pattern on Paper 19. That's the finished first tag and cover page! On the second tag I copied, pasted, printed, trimmed, and glued journaling strips taken straight from the blog post re-cap about our day in Innsbruck, Austria using the font Remington Noiseless. I stitched crocheted ribbon also from the Turn the Page Ribbon at the bottom and embellished with cloud and leaf Puffy Stickers and a gold flower border sticker from the Sticker Book at the top. The third tag is also simple and includes the first photo. I printed all of my pictures at home using a Canon Pro-100 printer, Picasa software (now defunct), and printed them at 2" square. I trimmed this picture here into a rectangle. I layered the photo over a flower sticker from the Sticker Book and tucked a blue border Sticker underneath. I topped the photo with a Butterfly Charm and tucked a leaf sticker under it. The ribbon stitched at the bottom is once again from the Turn the Page Ribbon. On tag four I layered a photo over a round mint Sticker and tucked a floral Chipboard Sticker under the top. I added a sentiment banner Chipboard Sticker on top and stitched through it. Journaling strips caption the photo and then I stitched gold decorative leaf trim to the bottom. Tag five is PINK! :) I framed a photo of the pink Church of the Holy Spirt with a colorful heart frame from the Ephemera Die Cuts, clipped on a green Tassel Paper Clip to the right, and adhered a caption below. Under the right edge I added a Floral Die Cut and on top added a cloud Sticker and floral Chipboard Sticker. At the bottom edge I added a few border stickers from the Sticker Book and 6x12 Sticker sheet and then zig zag stitched floral Turn the Page Ribbon to the back. Here on the sixth tag I layered a large Floral Die Cut, two photos with a floral Sticker between, and journaling strips on top. At the bottom I stitched a gold "whimsical" Chipboard Sticker, a scalloped border sticker from the Sticker Book, and then added the teal velvet ribbon from the Maggie Holmes Carousel Collection ribbon spools at the bottom. I also dotted the second "i" in "whimsical" with a yellow butterfly Puffy Sticker. On tag seven I added lots of journaling strips to the bottom half. There were two photos I wanted to add so I layered them and only placed adhesive at the top. I made a cluster of embellishments using a ruler sticker from the Sticker Book, "IMAGINE" Chipboard Sticker banner, cloud Chipboard Sticker, floral hummingbird Puffy Sticker, and a blue Butterfly Charm. At the bottom edge I stitched pink pom pom trim from the Maggie Holmes Carousel Collection ribbon spools, a heart border sticker from the Sticker Book, purple floral washi tape Chipboard Sticker, dark blue leaf Chipboard Sticker, yellow flower Chipboard Sticker, orange dot Chipboard Sticker, and an "oh what a day" Puffy Sticker. Here is a look at the photo underneath: Tag eight has lots of purple! I layered three Floral Die Cuts down the middle and then added a series of three square photos zig zag stitched together and then folded accordion style on top (you can see how this was done more clearly in the process video). I added a purple Tassel Paper Clip to the left side of the top photo along with a pink butterfly Puffy Sticker to keep it from sliding. On the top edge of the photo I placed a "The Happy Life" Chipboard Sticker and then scattered a bunch of round Chipboard Stickers at the bottom. I tucked a "LOVE THIS" Puffy Sticker under the photos and placed a rainbow scalloped border Puffy Sticker at the bottom edge. I machine stitched the pink/gold glitter ribbon from the Maggie Holmes Carousel Collection ribbon spools behind the bottom back edge. Here is a what the photo trio looks like when opened. I also added captions to two pics. On the ninth and last tag I layered some Floral Die Cuts at the bottom and then printed a larger rectangular photo which I turned into a pocket to hold extra pictures by machine stitching around the left, bottom, and right sides only. I always have lots of pictures I want to include but not enough space so pockets are a must! I added a few border stickers at the bottom and stitched the colorful striped Turn the Page Ribbon to the back bottom edge. I added a few floral Puffy Stickers, a butterfly Ephemera Die Cut, Butterfly Charm, flower Chipboard Sticker, and flower Sticker as shown to finish! Here are the extra photos outside of the pocket: This mini album was so fun to make and came together quickly too! I worked on all of the tags at once to add the papers, stitching, and mixed media and then I worked on the pages one at a time to add the photos and finishing touches. I hope you are inspired to check out the Scrapbook.com holiday sales and pick up the Whimsical collection to create beautiful things! I thoroughly enjoyed making this project and love how pretty the album and the suitcase turned out. Here are the tutorials on how they all went together. We first start with the mini album. We made 8 paper bags using the Square Lantern & Gift Bag Die. I show you exactly how to put them together to form the pages. We then made a hard wrapped cover and then added the pages to the binding. Everything is listed down below. We then made the suitcase using my new Suitcase Die Set using the same pape
Hi everyone! I promised to create a project using one of the new Mini Distress Ink sets. I chose set #10 - Iced Spruce, Squeezed Lemonade, Bundled Sage and Tattered Rose. You know I had to pick the one with Iced Spruce right? Lets get started: Gather supplies - Four #8 manila tags, Dina's white Gesso, paintbrush and Tissue Tape (any pattern). Lay the four tags out and tape them together (add tape to both sides). Be sure to leave a 1/16" between the tags so they will fold up without buckling. Use the paint brush to add Gesso over the tags and tape. Once one side is dry, repeat on the back until all of the manila surface is covered. Once finished, your tags should be able to fold up like this. I chose Iced Spruce (of course) to create the background layer. I used the Mini Iced Spruce ink pad to add Distress Ink directly on the surface of the tag. Remember, the tags are coated in Gesso so the tag surface will not soak up the ink. Next I made a puddle of Multi Medium on my craft mat, then used a paintbrush to brush the move ink around the tag. I only put out enough MM to work two tags at a time. Once I covered two tags, I used a wet wipe to get rid of the brush marks of the ink/MM mix until it looked like a smooth stucco surface. So you might ask why not just use Distress Ink over the Gesso and rub it with a Blending Tool? The answer is that Distress Ink over Gesso will never really dry because of the slick coating the Gesso gives. When adding the MM to the wet Distress Ink, the ink color becomes part of the MM - you can manipulate it when it wet but once dry, it becomes permanent over the surface. Once everything was dry, I used Archival Ink (which is permanent ink) - Watering Can and the large Distress Damask Stamp to create a pattern. Love that grey Watering Can color over the Iced Spruce. I took a piece of dyed cheesecloth and ripped it in a long strip, then stitched it to the right of the fold. I used Remnant Rubs (Botanical) in combination with words cut from a book to add a message to the inside of the book. After I added the words, I used my finger tip to cover the message with a bit of MM to seal it. Once dry, I used a Walnut Stain Distress Marker to add a bit of color around the word "And", then smeared it with more MM to seal the color in. I wanted to use some splatter using the Distress Marker Spritzer but because I have used MM to seal the booklet, using a Distress Marker is out of the question since it will not dry over the slick surface. The solution...a Sharpie marker. The thicker marker slips easily into the collar of the Spritzer tool and therefore can take the place of a Distress Marker in this situation since Sharpies have permanent ink. I decided to practice on a sheet of paper before spritzing over my booklet since the ink/pen is different than what I am used to. Always a good idea to practice first. The Sharpie gave me a super fine spray. Harder to see, the further away you are, but still a nice effect. I wanted to use Crinkle Ribbon to add ties for each tag - 10" per tag x 4 tags = 40" of Crinkle Ribbon to be colored. I used three of the colors from the set - Iced Spruce, Tattered Rose, and Squeezed Lemonade. The ribbon came out beautifully with a muted, vintage tone. I know I will be using that combination again. A few pieces of metal are in order to complete this project. I chose a small Word Key that had the word DREAM on it. I colored the key with Weathered Wood Distress Paint and then Mushroom Alcohol ink to create the aged appearance. The color helps "marry" the metal piece to the paper booklet. I also used a Swivel clasp, Monocle, and Heart Charm to create a message for the cover of the booklet. A ripped piece of Wallflower Vellum under the cheescloth on the cover adds another layer. Note: you might notice that I changed the Heart Charm - I decided I didn't want to repeat the word heart, so I changed to "beyond measure". I love how the ribbon turned out. I was able to create this look by pouncing the Distress Ink colors next to each other on the craft mat in this order: iced spruce, tattered rose, squeezed lemonade, iced spruce. I folded the 40" piece, 4 times (you could also pre-cut the 10" pieces), then laid the ribbon into the Distress Ink soaking up the colors and then drying. cover tag one and two tag three and four I really like how the simple booklet turned out. Very muted but quite lovely. I also think the cheesecloth added the much needed dimension. I don't have very much cheesecloth that is dyed this dark so I might have to have another dying session soon. And on to what you have all been waiting for - the winners of the Distress Ink Minis! If your name is on this list, please email your shipping information to [email protected] Thanks to everyone for stopping by and commenting! Set #10 Leslie McLaughlin Love these!! I really didn't think I would need them but they are wonderful! Set #11 Karen Newhouse Itty-bitty is so cute. I love them all. If I have to choose #11 would my choice. Set #12 Julie Steed Love those stenciled tags! The minis are so perfect for that technique, aren't they? I think I'd have to go with #12 as my fave. Products used in today's tutorial. InLinkz.com

Hi, everyone! Today I have an Envelope Mini Album to share with you. Resources I used to learn how to do this: Envelope Page Tutorial by The Paper Boutique Hidden Binding & Covers Tutorial by Ginger of My Sister's Scrapper My Envelope Mini Album Each page of the album has a card in the pocket that folds open and comes out of the pocket. I didn't take photos of every single page like I've done in the past. Please forgive me. :) But here are some photos that will give you the idea of the album style. So here is the inside cover, a couple of photo mats in the pocket, and the card also in the pocket with the flap hanging over the backside of this page. Here I have the card flipped open. Thanks for visiting with me today. If you ever want to make a mini album that feels more like a book, GINGER is definitely your go-to gal for video tutorials. This guest design month has certainly flown by for me. I want to thank Kim and Bonnie for having me in to share a few projects with you. It's been a real treat, and I hope you'll come visit me at my blog sometime soon. Today I have a mini album made from file folders and featuring Tim Holtz beautiful Wallflower papers. There are a huge amount of photos, so I'll try to keep my explanation simple and short. I started with three full size file folders, not the minis that are out there. Cut to 6 1/2" wide. Trim off the tab making it 17 1/2". Cut three of these pieces. Fold in each side to form a W. The left side that had the tab will be about 1/4" longer. Add 1/4" Scor Tape to three sides as shown above. Remove backing and adhere to section to the left. This will form a pocket. Your W is now glued together in the center. The shorter flap will be your cover... the longer flap will now be adhered to your next W.... like this. Apply the Scor Tape to form a side pocket when adhering the sections together. When you have all three sections put together, it will look like this. You should have three top pockets and two side pockets. I inked all the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink then gave it a vintage look by flicking on some water drops. I inked a piece of Idea-ology white seam binding with the Walnut Stain, Bundled Sage, Vintage Photo DI... and glued it around the book in the center to form my closure. I did some machine stitching to my front cover sheet and adhered it to the book. For the spine I used a piece of Canvas Corp natural canvas and some lace from my stash. I added Tim's papers to the pages along with some stenciling (Burlap Layering Stencil)... both Distress ink to some and gesso to others... as well as the tags I made from the file folder scraps and Alterations File Tabs die for the five pockets. These I topped with Idea-ology Chit Chat stickers. For the first page I made a pocket using a scrap from the 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk collection. The wood icons are Prima's Time Traveler. I cut a tag from more of the FF scraps. I folded it at about 1 1/2" and tucked it under the patterned paper. The fly chipboard piece is from Prima's Cartographer. The birds were cut with Alterations Birds in Flight Decorative Strip, the foliage with their Spring Greenery. The gems are Prima Say It In Crystals. Die cuts from Tim's Expedition Ephemera. Stamping with Tim's Nature Walk. The butterflies were cut with Alteration's Mini Butterflies. Idea-ology Pen Nib. I embellished the cover with a Prima TT wood icon, some flowers from my stash, more Spring Greenery foliage, and a bit of green Spanish Moss tucked in for more texture. The back cover is just kraft cardstock with stamping covered in a coat of gel medium for protection. I know I tried to squeeze in a lot of info here, so if you have any questions, please ask away. Thanks so much again, ladies, for the opportunity to share some projects with you. It's been a delight. Thanks for stopping by! Three posts in one day! I know! That is a lot for me. I wanted to post one more style of a tag book / mini album that uses coin envelopes to create an accordion style. The tutorial is by Christina Betts. You can find part one HERE and part two HERE. I made my own coin envelopes and if you would like to know how I made mine...check out my earlier post HERE. I used Lumiere Paints in copper to paint my edges of the chipboard and then distressed the edges with walnut and black soot Distress ink by Ranger. I used Kraft cardstock to make my coin envelopes and the designer paper is by 7 Gypsies. I have not completed my tags yet but I will be sharing those at a later date when I do. This is really a super easy and fun project. I hope you will check out the tutorial! An inside view: In case you missed my earlier post...here is a couple of views of this tag book and the vertical toilet paper roll tag album that I posted earlier. Thanks for stopping by!
When was the last time you created a project about you and your girlfriends and/or sisters? It had been a while for me, so I decided to us...
The top post of all time on my personal blog (The Efficient Crafter) features the "Envelope Punch Board Tag Booklet" and has almost 25,000 views. I thought I'd re-invent the project using jumbo and miniature manila tags paired with Navigation papers. It
Good morning, Crafters! I have a sweet, summertime tutorial for you today! If you are trapped inside with the air conditioning roaring, then it's the perfect time to whip up this little cutie! My monthly mini showcases the Authentique Summertime Collection! This is the perfect collection for these hot, humid, end-of-summer days! This summer collection comes with six different sheets and 12 patterns, However, the collection has TWO sheets of cut-aparts, Summertime Five and Summertime Six. If you purchase the paper pad, you get four of each pattern. That is plenty of paper to make this mini album! This mini is 5" tall and 3 1/2" wide (similar to the Meadow Mini Album, shared HERE). There are three pages, with lots of fold-outs and flaps, plus TWO waterfall sections! Let's get started on the tutorial. Cut two pieces of medium weight chipboard to 5" x 3 1/2". Cut one piece of chipboard to 5" x 1". Trim dark blue cardstock to 7" x 10 1/4" and attach the chipboard pieces to the cardstock as shown above. Make sure to maintain a 1/8" gap between the spine piece and the cover pieces of chipboard. Trim the cardstock corners at an angle and attach double-sided adhesive to the tabs. Wrap the chipboard as shown. Gently fold the covers while scoring in the 1/8" gutter (or channel) between the spine and the covers. Trim decorative paper to fit over the center spine section. Do this BEFORE adding your hinge mechanism. DO NOT add paper to your inside covers until AFTER you add your hinge mechanism. Create a hinge mechanism from dark blue cardstock. Cut the cardstock to 4 1/4" x 4 1/2". (The 4 1/4" measurement is the height of the hinge.) Score on the longer side at: 1", 1 1/8", 1 3/8", 1 5/8", 2", 2 1/4", 2 1/2", 2 7/8", 3 1/8", 3 3/8", 3 1/2". This will make three hinges that are 1/4" all with a 3/8" space between hinges. Attach the hinge to the spine of the book. Line up the scored 1/8" "gutters" on your hinge to the gutters on your album. Gently burnish and fold all your score lines. Trim decorative paper to add to the inside of your covers. Trim three pieces of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and add one piece to each hinge. Glue these "base pages" to the left side of each hinge. (Don't worry. Your decorative papers will cover the other side of the hinge.) Create a waterfall section for the front cover. Trim the dark blue cardstock to 4" x 3 1/8". Score each piece at 1/4" from the top edge. Use a corner rounder to round the bottom edges. Cut four waterfall pages. Attach the first to the top edge of the dotted paper by the 1/4" tab. Add each waterfall page just under the previous page. Add magnets to keep the waterfall closed. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the right edge. Round the left-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the left edge of the first base page. Cut a second piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the left edge. Round the right-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the right edge of the first base page. Add magnets as desired. Close the left flap, then the right flap to finish the first base page. Turn the page and work on the BACK of the first base page. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 5/8" x 3 1/8" and score on the bottom at 1/4" from the edge. Round the top corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the bottom edge of the BACK of the first base page. Add a pocket to the bottom of the second base page. Cut dark blue cardstock to 2 3/4" x 3 7/8" and score on three sides at 1/4" from the edges. Fold on the score lines and attach the pocket to the page as shown. Flip the second base page over and work on the BACK. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 5 1/2" and score on the long side at 2" and 5 1/4" from the left edge. Round the left-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the left edge of the second base page. Cut a second piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the left edge. Round the right-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the right edge of the second base page. Add magnets as desired. Close the right flap, then the accordion fold the left flap to finish the second base page Add a pocket to the bottom of the THIRD base page. Cut dark blue cardstock to 2 3/4" x 3 7/8" and score on three sides at 1/4" from the edges. Fold on the score lines and attach the pocket to the page as shown. Flop the page and work on the BACK of the last page. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the right edge. Round the left-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the left edge of the third base page. Cut a second piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the left edge. Round the right-hand corners. Attach the flap to the right edge of the first base page. Add magnets as desired. Close the left flap to finish the last base page. Create a waterfall section for the inside back cover. Trim the dark blue cardstock to 4" x 3 1/8". Score each piece at 1/4" from the top edge. Use a corner rounder to round the bottom edges. Cut four waterfall pages. Attach the first to the top edge of the dotted paper by the 1/4" tab. Add each waterfall page just under the previous. Add magnets to keep the waterfall closed. Now your mini book is ready to decorate! I trimmed a piece of white, adhesive-back canvas to cover the spine of my book. Then, I added the yellow and white dotted paper to the front and back covers. I kept the cover simple by adding a word grid sticker and a bit of pretty ribbon. (The sticker is VERY OLD and I have no idea where it's from!) I double-matted the sticker and added it to a bit of scrap chipboard before gluing it to the cover. I found the cute crab button in my stash and thought he would like to end his days decorating the bow! I used a banner die to cut out the spine decor. I used a Tim Holtz brad to dangle some charms from the spine. (I have a bin of charms and a bin of beads, most of which have been with me since the early 1990's! I add to them from time to time, so I really don't remember where these particular items came from!) I added the fun Summertime papers to the inside sections of my book, and then just added a few stickers and other bits and bobs to decorate each page. The Summertime cut-aparts are the perfect size for my pages... and to fit into the pockets! I have no idea how long I've had some of these stickers! I almost never reach for stickers, but I am happy I still had these in my stash as they worked perfectly for this little book! I found clear stickers, and 3-D sticker, and word art...just a treasure trove! With TWO waterfall features, there is a lot of space for photos and journaling! If you want to see each page, watch my little walk-through video below! I hope you are inspired to beat the heat and make a little end-of-summer mini! Thanks for joining me today! I'm off to the hospital tomorrow to get my new knee, so I kept myself busy today creating a quick mini album.
Hello everyone, it's Deb Riddell of Paxton Valley Folk Art here with you today as a guest designer here at Mini Album Makers. A huge thank you to Autumn and her very talented design team for giving me the opportunity to share my project with you. I live in British Columbia, Canada on a small acreage with my hubby and our rescue dog (affectionately known as The Delinquent!) and I'm a mixed media artist and paper crafter. My style is usually vintage inspired feminine grunge but I love to experiment with many styles and mediums. I'm currently on Therm O Web's Mixed Media Education Team and am a Resident Tutor at Mixed Up Creative as well as a Creative Guide over at A Vintage Journey. I'm very lucky to be able to do what I love best everyday, create art! For my project today, I was strongly influenced by the spring weather that has finally arrived here in Canada and decided to make a little vertical mini album created with ... toilet paper rolls! I followed the YouTube tutorials shared by My Sisters Scrapper, you can find Part 1 of her tutorial here: https://youtu.be/-8vndiRxuWk and Part 2 here: https://youtu.be/_l3YfI2QuYc For my mini album, I used some thick chipboard packaging and covered it with papers from a Recollections 'Blossom and Bliss' paper pad. Laura Denison's 'Stack The Deck' hinge system was used to secure my 6 toilet paper roll 'pages'. I decided on a pink and green colour scheme and alternated the colours when wrapping the flattened toilet paper rolls. The inside and outside of the mini album was covered with more of the Blossom and Bliss paper and a line of Lime Green Stickles Glitter Glue was added around the edges. Journaling cards were created from white cardstock matted with more of the same paper and they were embellished on the front with a variety of die cuts and sentiments. I used kraft cardstock for all of the die cuts and embellished them with either embossing powders, foil or Perfect Pearls for a bit of shimmer. Stickers or stamped sentiments were also added to each card and the pulls were created with a Small Tattered Florals die cut. The back of each journaling card was stamped with Tim Holtz's 'Lined' background stamp. The first and last toilet paper roll pocket pages were embellished with flowers created with a combination of the Tattered Florals and Small Tattered Florals die cuts. Botanical Tea paper from Graphic 45 was used for these flowers which coordinated perfectly with the Blossom and Bliss papers. More flowers were created from the same Graphic 45 paper with the Small Tattered Florals dies to embellish the top of the mini album. On the front flap, a black metal bird sticker was painted with Spun Sugar Distress Paint and wiped back for an aged look but it was still a little too dark so I also inked it with Mushroom Alcohol Ink and Gold Mixative. One of Tim Holtz's Wildflower die cuts was cut from kraft cardstock and embossed with pearl embossing powder. A Metallic Quotations Sticker was backed with more kraft cardstock. Mini Detailed Butterflies were die cut from kraft cardstock and embossed with Irridescent Shimmer embossing powder for the back of the mini album. And here are a couple of more pictures of the inside of the mini album and the finished journaling cards. I hope that you've enjoyed seeing how my Sweet Life vertical mini album came together, I had a lot of fun making it. Thanks again to Autumn for the opportunity to share my project with you and have a wonderful week everyone, happy creating! Deb xo

It's finally Fall!!! My very favorite time of year! I absolutely love sweatshirt weather, watching the leaves change into their gorgeous Fall colors, collecting apples and watching Husker Football. I also love Halloween Scrapbooking. The paper collections are absolutely gorgeous. I find it impossible to work with just one collection. I began working on an album last year, decided to put it away until this season and have finally finished it! It is definitely an eclectic, over the top, tons of fun album! Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be showing you the March releases!! I absolutely LOVE them!! They are truly unique and "one of a kind!" When I received our new dies I couldn't wait to start designing. It's been a super busy month working overtime and then some prepping the kits and getting them ready for all of you. I know some of the kits sell out really fast so we prepared for this and increased the quantities for this months releases. But, I cannot promise they still won't sell out fast. Are you ready to see them??? This is the sweetest Easter album ever! Makes you want to eat some peeps, robin eggs, and jelly beans! This is another one of our newest custom shaped albums. Isn't the bunny cover just adorable? The whiskers add just the right touch and just to make things a bit easier we have already added the eyes to the face for you. You will also love the other custom shaped pages and the many little details this kit offers. Here is the two page layout kit...so cute for all your Easter photos. Our first Mouse & Co mini album was so overwhelming popular that we couldn't resist creating another MAGICAL album using the new Say Cheese II collection from Simple Stories. This kit is bigger and better with new custom shapes and tons of goodies. There was so many fun new embellishments for this collection that we couldn't decide on just a few so we had to include them all in this awesome kit; stickers, bits & pieces, wood veneer, and insta frames!! The pages of this album are layered with details and dimension and you will LOVE the black felt and gold foil accents. This kit truly is "one of a kind!" And here is a look at the two page layout... Here is one more two page layout...perfect for a communion or baptism. Hope you enjoyed stopping by! Julie
On the Edge - nr 34' mal.
