Designer: Hans Harald Rath, Lobmeyr Year of Design: 1966 About the piece: 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of the Metropolitan chandelier creation, designed by Hans Harald Rath for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The Lincoln Center commission was ordered to Lobmeyr by the Republic of Austria as a gift in gratitude for the United States aid in the European Recovery Program. The very first ovation in the Metropolitan Opera house erupted when the chandelier rose toward the ceiling on its grand opening night, September 16, 1966. The piece was made of 49,000 Swarovski crystals and 1,000 sputniks. The inspiration to this design was supplied by the architect of the Met, Edwar K. Harrisson who presented pictures of distant galaxies. Mister Rath presented his design concept to the architect and the Lincoln Center committee with a prototype made of potatoes and tooth picks. 50 years later, the Metropolitan lighting collection remains the iconic and best seller of Lobmeyr’s lines of chandeliers. Material: Brass, Swarovski hand cut crystal. Nickel Finish: Polished. Matte. Electrical specifications: Light bulbs: E14 (Qty: 11). Max. Wattage: 660 W. The 366 armchair is an icon of the polish design of the PRL period. The famous armchair was designed in 1962 by the Polish interior designer and furniture designer Jozef Marian Chierowski. Produced in the Lower Silesian Furniture Factory in Swiebodzice. The chair has a simple, modernist form. It consists of an upholstered seat combined with a wooden backrest. The organic shape is typical of the 1960s style. The chair is very ergonomic and comfortable, as the furniture designs of that time were largely focused on the user. Due to its small size, the furniture fits perfectly into the interiors of contemporary apartments, perfectly meeting the needs of customers. All these features made Chierowski's armchair become a sales hit of the PRL's day - over one million copies were made. Furniture for over 20 years did not go down from production lines. The chair is in perfect condition after a professional renovation. We can prepare this chair also in another wood and fabric color.

This iconic chair was designed by the Italian-born Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) for the MASP's auditorium when it still was placed on 7th April street. The writer and curator Pietro Maria Bardi, her husband, says that in 1947 she did not find any modern chair in São Paulo for the auditorium – even with Warchavchik's and Tenreiro's attempts to produce modern furniture. So Lina designed a simple, foldable, and stackable chair to solve such a problem. That way, the Bardis created the notorious companies Estúdio Palma and Fábrica de Móveis Pau Brasil, in association with the architect Giancarlo Palanti, paving the way for several companies in the same segment – as Móveis Artesanal and Forma. Bo Bardi devoted her life to promoting Brazilian architecture and design's social and cultural potential. Her extensive production includes architectural projects, modern furniture, expography, and publications.
