A couple dances with great delight to celebrate their bond of love. This sculpture is hand cut by the artist from steel with a rich, dark gray surface. Simple yet evocative, it uses flowing lines and an open, airy composition to convey a sense of joyful companionship.
Seattle-based artist Carol Milne (previously) fabricates flowing glass sculptures that mimic the delicate patterns of knit yarn. Contrary to the assumption that Milne has the super-human ability to knit strands of molten glass by hand, the artist instead devised a somewhat complicated process that involves wax casting, mold-making, and kiln-casting. She discusses her techniques in detail in this video from Heather DiPietro. Over the last year, Milne’s artwork has appeared in the 9th Cheongju International Craft Competition, in the Creative Knitting show at the La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum, and at the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.

Artist Penny Hardy uses discarded machinery parts to build life-size sculptures pulsating with energy.
The sculpture is hand formed using heat and wrenches. It is cut with a plasma cutter and twisted until the expression of triumph in the form is achieved. The sculpture symbolizes the strength and independence of the female spirit.
The Wild West Buffalo features two life-size portrait bronzes in it. The right side has Sitting Bull welded in it and the left side features a portrait of Buffalo Bill Cody. The two famous characters starred in Bill Cody's Wild West Show that toured the all around world. The idea to put the two bronze busts featuring Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill came about during the 2012 Christmas fair in Lemmon. Kavan Donohue was looking through a book in front of Phyllis Schmidt's booth and saw an old poster that showed a picture of Buffalo Bill in a running buffalo (pictured below). Kavan pointed it out to me and said if you like to put faces in your pieces put Buffalo Bill in a Buffalo like this. This is the face I cut off a twelve foot Angel and welded into Top Knot a life-size horse I was building the summer of 2012. This face inspired Kavan to have an idea after seeing Buffalo Bills face in the poster above. This is a big deal because know I am not just building a scrap iron buffalo. It now has a theme to it and the face helps tell the story. In the case of the Wild West Buffalo pictured below Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill being in the same buffalo gives it this new feel that my piece didn't have before this. Thanks Kavan! I talked with Kavan on the phone when I started sculpting the Buffalo Bill bust in clay and he said it really needed to be trying to get out of the buffalo. I remember taking the clay that I had just started the day before to the shop and cutting the armature to push one shoulder down and turn his face. The action in this portrait really adds to the finished piece. Here are some progress shots of The Wild West Buffalo while in the welding shop. I can really feel my style coming together in this piece. This is quintessential John Lopez with a touch of Kavan Donohue mixed in. I liked to hide my bronzes in the Hybrid Metal pieces but in this one I feature the bronzes in an obvious way. The Sitting Bull Bust is not hidden it is intentionally framed so that your eye is drawn to it right away. The Wild West Buffalo is finally complete. If you want to see the piece in person come to Rapid City, SD June 22 and 23rd for the Art and Wine Festival in the Main Street Square. After we installed the buffalo in New Hampshire we met this gal on a whale watching excursion. She called the next morning because she wanted to come and see the two pieces I have at Pinacle. 51 TODAY, 51 TODAY. I'VE GOT THE KEY OF THE DOOR, NEVER BEEN 51 BEFORE!! HOW can I be 51? I'm only 32 (in my head...!) Ah well, aging is mandatory, growing up is optional - and boy, am I doing my best to live up to that!! It is my birthday TODAY - I've been very spoiled :D This is from Mr LLJ, the Big O and G3.....but what is it??? See, rusty ol' scrap. Aren't I a lucky girl?? Lol... I'll show you a bit more.. Hang on a minute, rusty old garden shears??? Are the boys taking the mick??? Only kidding!! Isn't it fantastic? I LOVE hares, got a real thing about them. This beauty was created from recycled metal tools and bits by Amy Lancaster. Have a peek at her stuff at www.metalmenagerie.co.uk . I love her work, it's so clever how she sees the shape of an animal in old scrappy bits and pieces. Her chickens make me hoot! Or should that be cluck.... Ok, my desk.... I've got an order for two pegbags so I've dug out a few fabrics to choose from. These bags are going to have an across the body strap rather than a clothes hanger, at the request of the buyer. I've had to modify the design as the usual length bag would require gorilla arms to reach the pegs at the bottom of the bag!! It's working quite well - I may well do more in the future. What is my son's Prom tie doing there???? I promise you I haven't read 50 Shades yet *grin*! Here's what's in those bowls.... A whole load of swivel clips!! Someone I know organises conferences and she had loads of lanyards leftover from holding ID cards - they came my way and jolly useful they will be for handbag charms and the like. They retail for about 60p each so that's saved some cash! These were also on the lanyards... I have absolutely NO idea what I'm going to do with these but we had fun at LLJ Towers, squeezing the sides and pinging them across the room like tiddlywinks. The cats enjoyed that game, lol!! Ah well, that's it from me - am off to drink champagne and eat cake. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it... :D

- You won’t find these garden tools at your local hardware store. And even if you did get your hands on one, you probably wouldn’t use it...
