Beware of hosting a baby shower for one of your friends... you might be having one for yourself 6 months later! Well that seems to be the trend in my circle of friends anyways! lol In late November of 2012 while updating our home in preparation of a baby shower I was hosting for my friend Kayla, we found out we too would be having our own shower. I can still remember the enormous smile that spread across my husband's face when I walked into the room and told him after taking 2 pregnancy test that morning. We were staying in one of our guest rooms bc our master had been flooded that October by mystery water. We still are unsure of the source. He had these sleepy eyes and blinding smile as he asked "Really?!" after I told him we were pregnant... PERFECT response guys incase you don't know what to do when told your old lady is having your child. After finishing up the living room, kitchen, guest bath, and dining room for the party, we now needed to tackle our Master so we could move back in and decide which guest room we would use as the nursery. I decided on the room closest to our Master, that one made the most sense. However it was being used as my personal closet at the moment since ours was still bare after the flood. It is also the smallest room in our house, I thought.... THOUGHT this was practical bc babies are small, so their things must be small, so they can stay in a small place. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Babies have SOOOO many things! I should have just switched rooms with Cruz and given him the Master! "Pinterest is an expecting mother's best friend and a father's worst nightmare." You can quote me on that one guys! So after we cleared out my "closet room" it was time to plan. I looked to pinterest and just browsed until we knew we would be having a little boy and then I could narrow down possible themes. I plan to keep the nursery a nursery and move the older kids out and into the other rooms each child we have so I wanted the colors to be versatile to both boys and girls. I finally decided on a split color look divided by an ultra glossy white chair rail. My love for the ocean and its beautiful colors is evident in my paint selection... Valspar's Sea Wave in satin for the bottom color, Valspar's Coastal Jetty in satin for the top color, and Valspar's Sea Treasure in Semigloss for our repurposed old furniture we found for his room. After we had the room painted I was in bed and looked around our room then thought of the nursery and told Jacob "You know the nursery is just our room's colors in a baby palette!", he looked and me laughed and asked why in the world had I had done that. Honestly I had no idea I had done that but hey, when you like something you like something. lol I'll have to do a post on our room one day, but its still under construction so it might be awhile. We decided on a Neverland theme for the nursery and I finally got to use a Hobby Lobby gift card I had been saving since we got married in 2009. I didn't want the kiddy commercial Peter Pan look. I wanted a room that looked like we had traveled to Neverland and the room was decorated with things we found/ bought/ discovered while there. One of my favorite pieces in the nursery is a giant ship wheel I found at Hobby Lobby... it has its very own wall to show off on. It also has an adorable row boat book shelf mom found in a Gilmer antique store. My sister-in-law Liz made this incredible sign for the room I saw on pinterest that was sold on Etsy but would have cost me an arm and a leg t buy. So of course she made it and it is beyond perfect! My first little bestie (besides my sisters) Miss Hannah crafted a beautiful "Never Grow Up" painting for Cruz that hangs above our very plush untraditional rocker. Our rocker is a leather La-z-boy we purchased at Sam's. While picking out things for the nursery we could never find a rocker we really liked. And certainly nothing we could convert back into living room furniture without it being an obvious "oh how cute you are trying to reuse your rocker/glider". We are huge on comfort in this house and Jacob wanted something comfy for our 3 AM feedings... thus our selection of our uber comfy chair. A lot of the other decorations in the room are all hand made by my friend-soul-mate Kaylan. (She has a baby on the way now after hosting a shower for me, babies are contagious ladies!) So like I was saying we used decorations from my beautiful baby showers and the few I had bought to decorate the room. With the final help from my sister-in-law, Becca, to hang everything the room was complete. It turned out perfect. Simply perfect! Obviously it does not look like this all the time. This is the polished up look for pictures. Cruz says, "Welcome to my room!" I love all the little details in his room... Jacob painted this picture back in school :) I love my little poof (a walmart find) it provides extra seating, a foot rest if you don't feel like kicking the chair all the way back, and will make a great stabilizer for when Cruz ventures to standing. What's Neverland without falling stars? Water, tissues, and a burp cloth... always keep them handy! Love this handmade Baby Cruz banner from Kaylan! His Blessing bubble suit Crib, Bedding, & Curtains from Target.com Cruz is obsessed with this little bear, every time we walk past it he reaches out to grab it! If you have a fur baby I recommend placing a comfy pillow or large stuffed animals (Presley has both) for them to curl up on. You'll be spending a good amount of time in the rocker at first with your baby (or at least we did) and we didn't want our first child to be left out! The changing station! Clorox wipes to wipe down the wall (if you have a little boy you will need this!), hand sanitizer, desitin, I also have vaseline (you will need this if you have a uber cubby boy like I do so the circumcision won't reattach, yes we are still using it almost 6 months later... just KEEP using it if your baby has a fat pad and makes his penis suck back in. I had to pull Cruz's back apart in the bath one night, it was horrible.), and nystatin (yeast combatant) close by. And of course a wipe warmer, no one wants a cold shock down there, especially in the middle of the night. Hope you guys like our Neverland Nursery! I'm in love with it!
