Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of talking therapy that can be used to treat people with a wide range of mental health problems, including anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety, social anxiety) or depression.
In Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), positive affirmations refer to statements or phrases a client can say to themselves to challenge negative thoughts. DBT affirmations usually focus on mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. The DBT Positive Affirmations Worksheet includes positive statements, such as “I am stronger than I think” and “I will forgive in order to move forward.” Clients will find three empty thought bubbles, which serve as spaces to write down encouraging statements to increase their resilience when going through difficult situations. When kids and teens focus on these positive affirmations and write new ones, they can be reminded of their inner strength. After completing the worksheet, they can carry it with them as a reminder throughout the day. It can be helpful to have discussions about the affirmations that resonate with them. For additional affirmations, this worksheet can be paired with our DBT Coping Statements handout. *This item is an instant digital download. Art therapy empowers children to develop coping skills, build self-esteem, and find healing by using creativity as a means to communicate without words.
I have been using TF-CBT to address trauma in children for years. My experience has been that some children do very well with it and are able to openly process their trauma. However, most children do not like to talk about their trauma. On one hand they want to get it off their chest, but they do not like the emotions that go along with discussing it.I typically start counseling with coping skills before diving into trauma narratives so that children are better equipped to handle the strong em

In DBT, the RAIN technique helps clients deal with challenging situations by becoming aware of their thoughts, practicing acceptance of the present moment, being curious about their inner experiences, and showing themselves compassion. The RAIN DBT Skill Worksheet encourages clients to reflect on a distressing situation and go through each component of the “RAIN” acronym. For example, under “Recognize what is happening,” they’ll be asked to describe their thoughts, feelings, actions, and sensations. Answering this worksheet helps improve self-awareness and promote calmness as kids and teens explore self-compassion affirmations. We recommend completing this worksheet in a calm and distraction-free environment, such as a therapist’s office, library, or a quiet corner at home. This worksheet can be supplemented with our visually appealing RAIN Mindfulness Technique handout to support understanding of the RAIN skill. *This item is an instant digital download.
