We all know Meghan Markle as an actress, blogger, pinky ring fan, human rights activist, royal and soon to be mom of two. What you may not know is that she is also a feminist and self care advocate. Her radiance stems not just from what we are sure is an excellent skin care routine, but rather from the work she does to take care of herself from the inside out. Ready for some self care tips from the Duchess of Sussex? We thought so. Here are 5 self care tips from Meghan Markle: 1. Make Time For Yourself: This may seem obvious when it comes to self care, but when we are stressed, it is often the first thing to go. It can be hard to pause and take time to remember our mental and physical wellbeing. “Give yourself time to decompress and relax, whether it’s a night at home, laughing with your friends, or being around family,” Markle advised in a 2017 blog post. 2. Travel: From biking through Vietnam and camper-vanning through New Zealand to touring the coast of Croatia, Meghan is passionate about traveling, and often posted insider guides to travel locations on her blog. She sees travel as a way to give yourself a chance to refresh by experiencing new things. However, if you don’t have the budget, travel does not require that you cross an ocean. Whether it’s driving to the next town over and visiting a beloved restaurant or picking a nearby national park and planning a hike, you can embrace this tip in small ways that provide the same experience. 3. Declutter: As explained by Meghan Markle, your living space is your temple, and decluttering your physical space is the first step to decluttering your mental space. Before you get overwhelmed, Meghan encourages that everyone start small. She explains, rather than take on the entire attic, straighten up a drawer. Or, instead of cleaning out your whole fridge, clean the counters. The idea, as expressed in New Order: A Decluttering Handbook for Creative Folks (And Everyone Else), is that starting small leads to going big. 4. Romance Yourself: Meghan is a huge advocate of “be[ing] your own Valentine,” or treating yourself like you would treat others you love with regard to attention and even gifts. “I think you need to cook that beautiful dinner even when it’s just you, wear your favorite outfit, buy yourself some flowers, and celebrate the self love that often gets muddled when we focus on what we don’t have.” 5. Leave Room For Magic: This tip can be attributed to Meghan’s castmate. When Meghan was telling her castmate about her busy schedule, her castmate responded with the words, “Meg, I will just say one thing. Make sure you leave room for the magic.” What does that mean? Meghan explains: “To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change. To let the magic know that there is an open door policy with me...and that it is always welcome to join the party.” To her, leaving room for the magic is all about living playfully. She explains on her previous blog, The Tig, “The only thing I aim to do is approach life playfully...To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher.” Inspired to start incorporating Meghan’s self care tips into your life?
