RID order when you have two object pronouns in a sentence, these pronouns always appear in the RID order. And because two is the maximum number of pronouns that can appear together, the possible combinations are RD – reflexive – direct me lo compro - I buy it for myself ¿Tu pelo es magnifico. te lo lavas mucho? ID – indirect – direct Yo te la escribo - I write it to you Ella me las vende – she sells them to me La La Rule When both the direct and indirect objects are in the third person, regardless of gender and number, both pronouns will begin with 'L'; so change the indirect object (the first one) to “se”. consider the sentence - “I give it to him” - this would become “Yo le lo doy”, so we change this to “Yo se lo doy”. negation(1 verb) put the no or the negation word before first pronoun. When sentence has 2 verbs, there are 2 options Quiero dartelo te lo quiero dar negation (2 verbs) no quiero dartelo no te lo quiero dar. ============================================================= Direct Object Pronouns what does John have? (What) whom does John see? (Whom) me, te, lo/la, nos, os, los/las He has the book the book = direct object John sees Mary (her) mary = direct object John lo tiene lo = direct object John la ve la = direct object Negation (with one verb) Yo no lo sé nunca lo estudiáis | | | neg word | |_ conjugated verb | direct object Two verbs then two options 1) te quiero ver | | | direct object conjugated verb infinitive 2) quiero verte | | conjugated verb infinitive+direct object Negation with two verbs 1) no lo tengo que leer negation word direct object conj verb infinitive 2) no tengo que leerlo ============================================================= Indirect Object Pronouns To Whom (or) For Whom me, te, le, nos, os, se | |______(them, you) |_ (him, her, you, it) DO = direct object IO = indirect object He buys me flowers (he buys flowers for me) |_DO |_IO In a sentence with an indirect object there is always a direct object either stated or implied. My Gradmother writes me every week | | she writes(DO) something_| |_ to me (IO) the direct object is understood to be a letter, postcard, or note with one verb, IO before conjugated verb Juan me compra un libro With two verbs there are two options 1) before the first conjugated verb él me quiere dar un regalo 2) on the end of the infinitive of the second verb él quiere darme un regalo Negation 1) after negation and before verb él no me trae nada 2) on the end of the infinitive of second verb él nunca quiere traerme nada ============================================================= Reflexive Object Pronouns me (myself) te (yourself) se (himself / herself / itself) nos (ourselves) os (yourselves) se (themselves) The action of the verb is to self me lavo el pelo cada dia I wash my hair every day Nearly all verbs can be made reflexive, there is no magic trick ! If the action is to self then it is reflective. Preposition + Infinitive with Reflexive Pronouns verbs following a preposition must be in the infinitive, with reflexive verbs the infinitive remains untouched and the reflexive pronoun is added to the end of the infinitive to agree with the understood subject Yo leo antes de acostarme | | |__(reflexive pronoun on the end of the verb) preposition | infinitive infinitive | antes de dormirte, tú necesitas lavarte | | | | | | |_______________|__(reflexive pronoun) preposition | infinitive

Today I wanted to fill you in on how I teach the verb GUSTAR but, first, a real life message. ;) I feel like I've reached THAT point. You know the point I'm talking about, right? The one where you're just trying to make it until the next break? For me that next break is Christmas (4 weeks and counting!). I'm sure I'm not alone in my feelings because it seems the same thoughts are shared often in the staff room at break and lunch each day. I think this is combined with the fact that this upcoming week is just a normal week. I'll go to work this Thursday (Thanksgiving) and teach on just like an average day. While it has gotten easier since this is our third Thanksgiving in Grand Cayman, it's still tough because, as an American, Thanksgiving is BIG. It's difficult not to be surrounded by lots of family on this day. We have amazing friends though and still put on a big get together with the traditional meal. This year, our friends that are hosting are even DVRing the Macy's parade, so we can all watch as we eat our Thanksgiving dinner after work on Thursday. :) Another reason I'm longing for a break is that it's just been a jam packed couple of weeks! The week before last was Pirates Week. It's a fun week long event that starts and ends with amazing fireworks and included a landing parade where the pirates officially take over the island. All week long you can see people walking around town sporting their pirate gear. The week ends with the pirates being kicked off the island until the next year. You can conveniently see the fireworks from our balcony, so that's a plus to where we live as we get a front row seat without having to fight the crowds. During the parade, people young and old dress up. Watch your children too as you never know when they might be kidnapped by a pirate. ;) This past week was the annual Reading Week at school. Teachers kicked off the week by dressing up as story book characters. Activities included: guest authors, reading buddies, an evening "bedtime story night", book exchange and a book fair. At the end of the week, students dressed up as their fav book character. We are also in the middle of practicing for the upcoming Christmas program that takes place in a couple of weeks. I am "fortunate" to be working with the 9th and 10th graders as they play the roles of King Herod and Roman soldiers, Getting them to take this semi-seriously is an exhilarating challenge...(to be read with sarcasm). :) So, what, you ask has been going on in Spanish class with the verb Gustar? Beats me?! I'm struggling to remember what I ate for breakfast 2 hours ago. Back to being serious...we just finished up a unit on GUSTAR. Gustar is always a fun topic because students naturally love to talk about what they like and don't like, so I find it's easy to put this grammar point into a contextual situation to which they can relate. We added some foldables and flip books to our interactive notebooks. We used characters cards to play an introduction game where the characters spoke about their pastimes, while students recorded the information. Using the cards, they introduced, gave basic information and said what they liked to do. I, of course, forgot to take more pictures because of everything else that's been going on. Students are also writing dialogues where they will speak about what they like and want to do. I tagged on the topic of QUERER + Infinitives with this unit as well, so that students are able to speak and write about what they like/don't like as what they want/don't want to do. I found a some good YouTube videos that are engaging and the students enjoy that I incorporate into my Gustar unit. Me gusta-mis pasatiempos Sí, sí me gustan I have used the "Sí, sí me gustan" one for years, but recently found the other and really like it too. Both of these guys have other fun Spanish videos as well, so I encourage you to check those out too. Be encouraged! Thrive while you survive! ;)

I was so inspired by the success of the "Grab It Game" I started to think of how I could change it up to fit other concepts and boy was I onto something. Once again many thanks to my co-worker and awesome Spanish teacher, Marie Stevens, for telling me all about "Grab It Game". My kids are continuing their conjugation practice and I am currently focusing on -AR/-ER/-IR conjugations. The kids are getting good with certain words such as I and you but they still get confused on some endings....so here is what I did.... To play the game: 1. Divide the room up into two even teams. 2. Assign a student numbers for each teammate and make sure each student has a matching "opponent" (For example there should be #1 for Team A and Team B.) 3. Have a small white board, marker, and eraser ready. 4. Take an object in the classroom that you have alot of (at least 6 or so). 5. Make signs for the endings....o, as, a, amos, an (and if you teach vosotros) and tape them to the objects. I chose sombreros because you can buy them for a 1.00 at Dollar Tree. 6. Line them up and let the games begin.... Now...I am a very interactive hands on type of teacher. I love to see my students get into games and be competitive. If you haven't learned already, I am a former athlete/competitor and this often comes out in my classroom. My favorite students when playing these games are my aggressive kids who keep asking to get there number called. Be sure to set some rules up at the beginning so no one gets hurt but here's how it goes.... 1. STAY OUT OF THE WAY! I have a stool and I get my white board, a marker and I go sit on my stool OUT OF THE WAY. (I learned the hard way)....:( 2. Write down ANY infinitive...if you are working on -AR...write Hablar, Llegar, Mirar....ones that they know. 3. Write the verb down and show them...call out the subject pronoun...and then....here we go....the #....and you will see your students FLY out of their chairs and race up to the front to grab the certain hat that matches their subject pronoun. 4. I give an extra point if they can put it all together and say the word "Hablar "Yo" = "Hablo" Another thing is...some students will FLY out of their chairs that the opponent won't even try so I created a rule that even if you try...if your opponent gets it wrong...they are automatically rewarded the point. That gets them ALL trying at least :) You can change this up to fit any conjugation tense and any category of items. God Bless - Brittany B.

Since 2015 I’ve taught high schoolers 90 minute classes in a small trailer. Believe me when I say, movement is a necessity. It was one of the first things I realized transitioning from teaching 50 …
Preterit Task cards (40 cards) are in a PDF format. Each card contains a question in the Preterit and students respond in the Preterit as well. I incorporated higher thinking questions. Therefore, the questions make connections to Social Studies, Literature and Politics. In addition, each card has a flag from a Spanish speaking country. Students are allowed to use cellphones, Chrome books, tablets, etc. to quickly look up the answer if they do not already know it. The first group to get the correct answer scores a point. I like to group student in pairs and each pair represents a Spanish speaking capital. Prior to beginning the game, I show students a You Tube video for the capitals. Then distribute one task card per pair. I write on the board the 21 capitals and each group can earn points. I usually use the points towards a quiz grade since we're not allowed to give out candy and the high school kids are too old for stickers or pencils. It seems like they really want the extra points to be applied to a missing homework or quiz grade. I also have each pair quickly draw the flag for the country and write the name of the capital and use that as a name tag for each group. It reinforces flag recognition but also gives me a quick visual of which pair earned the point without having to relay on my memory : ) You Tube video for the capitals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAoj0IuVoes Great task cards to review the Preterit while making connections to history, politics, literature and geography. I usually play this game on Fun Fridays! Students work hard the entire week so I try to do something fun on Fridays. If we're learning about the Dominican Republic fun Friday can easily be a Bachata dance lesson! I try to do different activities on Fun Fridays; dance lesson, game activity, cooking lesson (like making Guacamole), arts and crafts (like making worry dolls), etc. It also works well for classroom management. If students are not well behaved during the week,, then we skip Fun Friday! I don;t even have to reprimand them. When someone is not behaving, another student will beat me to it and say "Stop it, we're going to lose Fun Friday" LOL Flags: Pixabay.com (free domain) OJO I may not have ALL the flags on the task cards since they were not ALL available on free domain. I believe Perú was missing as well as Guinea Ecuatorial.

Our Primary likes to let the kids play get-to-know-you games with their teachers and each other at the beginning of the year. It is a fun way for the kids to become comfortable with their new teachers! I looked all over the internet for fun games (and there are many) but decided to come up with my own. I have mine printed on 8x11 cardstock and I laminated them so they can be used over and over again. This also looks good printed in black and white, or printed on colored cardstock or paper. You will need a dice and enough markers for each player. (You can use anything...pennies, candies, buttons, etc. We used these CTR circles found here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/122010264/choose-the-right-lds-primary-2017-theme) After purchasing you will receive a PDF download. The PDFs are sized as 8x11. Your local printing store can also print these on 11x16 posters for a very inexpensive price. (about 20 cents each at my printing store, on a shiny card stock.)
