I'm sharing my last official project for Petaloo with you today. As you may know, Floracraft purchased Petaloo a year or so ago. Now Floracraft has made the decision to integrate the Petaloo website with the Floracraft website and they've also decided to disband the Petaloo design team and that makes me sad. I've had a wonderful year and a half working with Cheryl, the former owner of Petaloo, and representing Petaloo flowers. I had the good fortune to work at the Phoenix show this winter and at the Collins show last September teaching and demoing for Petaloo. A very big thanks to Cheryl for giving me that opportunity. I made this birthday card with the recently released Graphic 45 Master Detective collection. Really this is more than a birthday card, it's a folio that makes a little gift statement on its own. I'm sure the recipient will be so intrigued as they wander through the card/folio and find all the fun places where you could hide notes and gifts. Beginning with the cover, there's a fun little file folder that slides out from behind the cut-apart on the cover. I've made the cover ever so pretty by using Petaloo's Botanica blooms and gerber daisies. They just brighten things up so much! When you open the cover you see birthday wishes. I made a couple of ATC tags on the left and made a Julie Nutting doll on one of the tags. On the right I stamped birthday greeting sentiments on the back side of an ephemera card from the Master Detective collection. Two more pretty Petaloo gerber daisies add some pretty dimension. The folio is a trifold with pockets and places to tuck notes, gift cards, movie tickets, air tickets, how about cruise tickets? Wouldn't that make a grand birthday present? Int the center is a library pocket holding a small mini with 3 flip pages. The little mini is bound at the top with staples. The design paper strip serves to hide the staples. This is a really quick way to make a tiny mini, just cut your paper to whatever size you wish, then score at 1/2" and staple. Then decorate the cover and you have a quick little flip book. On the right side there's a Graphic 45 policy envelope attached with felt hinges that flips over so that something can be hidden inside the envelope, yes it's a mystery what lurks inside! On the right, underneath the policy envelope is a spot with a belly band, perfect for securing photos. The back is simply decorated with design paper and an ephemera card. Yesterday I was up on Graphic 45's blog sharing my Master Detective Mini Album. In December, three Brand Ambassadors were challenge to create a project using three Graphic 45 products. The three products we had to use were the Mixed Media Album, any 12x12 Patterned Paper collection and the Washi Tape Set. In addition to the three products, we could also use Metal, Inks and Ribbon. Below I'll share a few photos, a bit about my master detective mini album as well as some tips and tricks about my project. If you haven't stopped by Graphic 45's blog yet, you'll want to, as Kathy and Nico have also created fabulous projects using the same three products and I have some more photos on their blog of my Master Detective Mini Album. Creating this mini album was an absolute blast and it will be perfect to give as a gift this Christmas. Tip: There are lots of cardstock pages and vellum pages in the mixed media album, so use them for some of your photo mats. Hellllooooooo my lovely crafty friends. I'm back from a longer than planned, really enjoyable break from crafting. It's all change here, Sophie (Oli's girlfriend) has moved in ahead of their move to their new house together, Oli's started a new job yesterday and Harry is about to come home for the summer having finished his first year at Uni. I thought it would be a good time to de-clutter the house and seem to have spent the best part of three weeks making trips to charity shops and the tip around some long overdue gardening and all the other jobs that needed doing around the house too. Now the new paper collections from G45 are here in the UK whop whop, I thought I'd challenge myself to make a project using one 8 x 8 Master Detective Pad just to get a feel for the papers and how to work the designs together, and here it is. In true G45 style there's a hint of Halloween threaded through this Sherlock Holmes themed collection, along with fabulous prints and colours, which are perfect for projects for those guys in our life as well as the girlies. I've created the case from our 8x 8 Shadow Box kit, added a recessed front and then used chipboard sheets to cut the album covers and spine for the book inside. Both are assembled using my black construction tape - which makes it quick to get to the exciting bit - cutting up those papers and decorating lol!!! The mini album is a smaller version of the larger 11" album I designed back in April with a couple of changes and additions :-). At the end of the project there was a full sheet and a half left over, along with a few random strips. The cover is take 2, I didn't like the first one I put together - it's funny how you know something is wrong!!! Here's a few more pictures, the supply list and product links. Good morning, mini album fans! I have a fun one for you today! I pulled out some Graphic 45 papers from my stash and created a murder mystery themed album! I had two collections in my "inventory" that I had never used: Master Detective and Rare Oddities! I combined those collections with Steampunk Spells and a few other patterns and solids to come up with this Sherlock Holmesian album! I wanted to create an album that would be perfect to hold photos from a mystery night, or a room break event. These things are all the rage right now, and how fun to have a scrapbook album themed for a murder mystery party! This is quite a large "mini" album. It is 10" tall, 8 1/2" wide, with a 2 1/2" spine! It can fit both 5x7 and slightly trimmed down 8x10 photos! You will notice that the front cover is plain with no decoration except the paper. That is because the Master Detective Signature sheet that I used for the cover and spine is a Search and Find! There is a list of things to find hidden on the cover and spine! Is that not fun?! And just a little hilarious?! This book holds more than 70 photos! Plus there are spaces for journaling and spots to tuck away ephemera and memorabilia! My inspiration for the inside layout of the album came from a video I saw on the Your Book of Memories YouTube channel. Frances created a cute fall themed album, and I really liked her layout so I recreated some of her ideas for my book. (You can find her video HERE.) My book has four page sets, plus extra page flaps, pockets, and tuck spots! The pages are 9 1/2" x 8". You need four hinges for this book, each measuring 1/2", with a 1/2" gutter between each hinge. The hinge mechanism is 9 1/2" tall. If you need help creating an accordion style or tab style hinge system, please search this blog, or search on YouTube. There are tons of FREE tutorials to follow. I combined all my collections to use the black, orange, green, purple, and cream color scheme. Graphic 45 collections use many of the same colors, making it easy to mix and match! The steampunk feel of Rare Oddities and Steampunk Spells were both a perfect match for Master Detective! All these collections are retired, but many of you will have some in your stash, or perhaps can find them online. If not, choose YOUR favorite theme and give this larger style book a try! The album has plenty of photo mats and journaling spots! Both the front and back inside covers have space for more photos. There is even a waterfall page feature! I will NOT be creating a tutorial for this album because I used Frances Long's project video as inspiration. My project is not 100% like hers, and I did use my own measurements, construction plan, and style. However, she sells a tutorial for her version and I did not want to put up a free tutorial under those circumstances. Yesterday I was up on Graphic 45's blog sharing with you my WhoDunnit? Clue Envelopes which feature the new Master Detective Collection along with a variety of Staples from the Staples Collection. Clue Envelopes at home. Tip: Layer in amongst the fussy cut images an Ornate Metal Keyhole as well as a Metal Clock Key. To give the staples a bit of extra dimension, add foam squares behind each staple. Tip: Use an Ornate Metal Label Holder to highlight a section of the border. Hello again, Sandy here with Part Two of the tutorial on assembling my Master Detective Curio Cabinet with the hidden box on the back that you can see above. The original kit for the cabinet is on the left and the add on box kit is on the right. It is 3 inches deep and holds a very good sized folio album. It is attached with hinges and closed with a metal latch. In the August 2nd blog post here on Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts, I shared how I put my cabinet together with cardstock structure hinges. I did find that the added paper made it a bit harder for the doors to swing open and closed and required a bit of sanding in the end and it also added bulk to the cabinet where the drawers go in and out. On my next one, I will be assembling with just glue and painting the edges black. You might want to consider that for yours as well. However, for this next tutorial segment on assembling and adding the box to the back, I did use the structure hinges. Supplies Used: Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts China Cabinet # B4A Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Bonus Box for the #B4A China Cabinet - Custom Item, Contact the Store Black 12 x12 Cardstock 12" Trimmer 12" Score Board and Bone Folder Art Glitter Designer Glue (White Glue) 3-in-1 Glue Glossy Accents Black Masking Tape 3/8" Scor-tape Clear Transparency Sheets Black Ink and Foam Applicator Halloween embellishments Assorted Ribbons-4 to 6 different colors and designs Basic Grey Magnet Snaps, small Metal hinges - 2 small and 2 mediuim Metal Latch - 1 Small Brads and Large Brads Eyelets Assorted charms & chains Prima Flower Steampunk bottles and other embellishments Tim Holtz Mini Bottles Assorted Miniature Items Tim Holtz Door Knob (for decorative item inside cabinet) Fall Leaves and Mini Pumpkin Floral Pick Let's get started! Step 1: Layout out your chipboard pieces for the box as shown. Make sure to use a damp cloth or baby wipe to clean the laser residue from the edges. Step 2: Apply glue to the notches of the sides and ends and bring them up to form the box as shown below. Allow the glue to dry well. Step 3:If you are using the black cardstock structure hinges to finish the edges of your box, cut several from 12x12 sheets as shown.They will need to be 12" long x 1" wide, scored on the 1" side at 1/2". You will measure the box and cut the lengths to fit as needed. Step 4: Apply glue or scor-tape to one side of the hinges on each 1/2" section. And attach a hinge to all the edges as shown on the inside and outside of the box. If you do not want to use structure hinges and you have assembled/glued the box together well, you can choose to paint all the seams and edges black. When finished attaching the structure hinges, your box will look like the photo below or all the black hinge areas will be painted black if you went with that option. Step 5: Pattern the outside of your box and carefully line it up with the curio cabinet. Use a ruler and marker to mark the placement holes for your hinges. Step 6: Drill or punch the holes that you marked and use Glossy Accents plus brads to attach the hinges to the box and the cabinet. Carefully open up the prongs on the inside of both the box and cabinet. Make sure they are tight and use a bit of Glossy Accents to secure if needed. You will add two hinges on the same side. Also use a marker to mark the holes for the latch on the other side. Drill or punch holes and attach the same way by adding Glossy Accents and brads. When looking at the front of the cabinet, I put the hinges on the left side and the latch on the right side. Step 7: Once the hinges and latch are securely on the box and cabinet, you can go ahead and pattern the back of the cabinet and the inside of the box. If you haven't already, you will also want to pattern the back of the box on the outside. The curio cabinet with the secret storage compartment is now completed. When you open it up from the back, you have a 3 inch space to create a custom album to store inside. Make sure that you don't create an album that is too thick as you do want your cabinet and storage box to close up properly. The photo below shows the curio cabinet with the back opened up and a glimpse of the album I created for Graphic 45 and added to the inside. Finish up your cabinet by adding decorative elements to the inside such as small bottles, skulls, miniature items, photos, clocks, mirrors, etc. On the knobs of the doors you can hang chains, padlocks, a sign, metal key and other charms. On the top, add a junk bow with floral pieces and if desired like mine, a spooky skeleton.
