I owe you all I good post, not only because I have been so remiss in updating lately, but because I am likely to remain a little less prolific for the next few weeks while I'm working on several shows that open around the same time. When I'm designing a show I like to put movies on in the background, especially if it's late at night because it makes me feel like someone else is awake. In no particular order (because I just couldn't decide how to rank them) here are my top ten favorite 18th-century inspired films/mini series'. 1) Marie Antoinette (2006) 2) The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934 &2000) Okay, I cheated here, I like them both. 3) The Lady and the Duke (2001) 4) Ridicule (1996) 5) The Duchess (2008) 6) Amazing Grace (2006) 7) Catherine the Great (1995) 8) Dangerous Liasons (1988) 9) Amadeus (1984) 10) The Madness of King George (1994) Honorable mentions go to Plunkett and Macleane, Perfume, and the HBO series John Adams. So what are your favorites? Any to add to the list?
Alex Pick brings Disney back in the most unexpected ways. Last time, the German artist, known to his 123k followers on Instagram as apicollodraws, 'humanimalized' Disney's universe by turning our favorite animal characters into humans and the other way around in his spot-on illustrations. This time, Pick took his creative ideas around Disney fanart in another direction and drew mashups of Disney and Hollywood. He replaced stars in the posters of iconic movies and a few TV series with Disney characters. Have you ever wondered which princesses would play Mean Girls, who would be able to replace Jack and Rose in Titanic, or who would be able to pull off the emotional Brokeback Mountain? Pick has you covered and reimagined them all. Find out how he got this idea and how the series came to life in an interview with the artist below!
Once your students have read the novel George’s Marvellous (Marvelous) Medicine, by Roald Dahl, have them create their own movie poster to promote a movie based on the book. This poster is a fun way to get your students to wrap up the novel study or to just demonstrate some creativity and identify with some of the events and characters in the story as they think of quotes, teaser bubbles, an interesting event, etc. in order to complete their movie poster.
