Disclaimer: Please noted that there will have additional white space around the actual print. For example, if you order a 16x20 size print, there will be approx. 1" to 2" additional space around the print. The additional white space is acting like a cushion during the shipping. The print will move violently up and down during the shipping and there is for sure the side of the print may bend or damage. With the additonal white space on 4 sides, it can prevent this problem. I understand this may cost you extra time to trim the print to fit in a poster frame. I rather you can receive a perfect print instead a damage one.Thank you very much for your order! This is my blog documenting strange borders around the World. When I started the series, I would have thought that the majority of the World's borders would be stable and logical. But in fact, there are strange borders all over the place. Some of these are disputed but many of the strangest borders involve peaceful agreements between the two parties and over time have become matters of local pride. Simple human error has also played a role but these mistakes become hard to correct once people have gotten used to living with the existing borders. Some of the maps focus on border disputes between two or more countries. Interest in access to natural resources like oil underlie some of these but other fights are over barren unpopulated deserts and nothing more than issues of national pride. There is even a border dispute that involves a sizable chunk of land that neither country claims. More recently, the concept of "Google Wars" has started to surface where incorrect placement of international borders on Google Maps has resulted in countries practically declaring war on each other. Strange borders also result from treaties that describe borders verbally. When those words are turned into map, problems start to happen. They work well when there are clear natural borders such as rivers and mountain ridges but difficulties arise when they were based on vague or incorrect data from the field. When I started the series, I thought I would run out of places to write about. That has not turned out to be the case. I still have a backlog of maps to make and new examples turn up in the news all the time. As long as lines are drawn, they will continue to be drawn in strange places.
