Disclosure: Products in this post were provided for review. Howdy! Today I have a preview of the upcoming colors for Julep's May Maven Boxes! This month's theme is inspired by the 1920's and the upcoming movie, "The Great Gatsby". How cool, right?? I'll break these down by box themes... Bombshell Maven Box: (also comes with a trio of lip colors) Zelda (pink champange metallic) is one of the best behaved metallic polishes I've ever worked with. This color is reminiscent of rose gold with a hint of silver too. Loved the formula- it gave great coverage in 1 layer and dried quick as well! Gabrielle (Smoky Mulberry creme) is a gorgeous polish. A decadent and sultry ink shade. It Girl Maven Box: (This one also comes with a third polish, a glitter named Paris, that I don't have right now) Clara (Opaque Peach Creme) is the sweetest peachy shade. This one was so opaque too, with almost zero streaks! A beautiful neutral that will bring you right from Spring into Summer. Coco (Oxblood creme) is a color that brings to mind power and sophistication. 100% luxurious. Boho Glam Maven Box: Alice (Antique Lilac Shimmer) is soft, feminine, and sweet. It looks like a sugared lilac in bloom. I love the subtle shimmer in this one Millie (Vintage Indigo Creme). I just adore everything about this polish, from the deep, mysterious, creamy hue to the vintage name! What's especially amazing is that I only needed one layer of polish for this photo! Here's one of 3 lip colors that come in the Boho Glam box as well, Satin Doll (sheer poppy): Love the packaging! This color is really pretty and subtle with the texture of a silky lip balm (shown on my hand here): Classic With A Twist Maven Box: (also comes with a trio of lip colors) Zora (a frosted pink pearl)- I don't have this one yet Myrtle (Flapper red creme) is the quintessential 1920's nail color! A red polish that screams glamour! This polish is so shiny and sleek- loved the effortless application as well. And then there is an "add on" option for the month: Etta (Art Deco Lime Metallic) is a fresh, minty metallic with a subtle iridescence that twinkles and catches the light making it very hypnotizing! While maybe not very "Spring-like", I think Julep did a great job at capturing the vibe of the 1920's with this color scheme. These polishes are all classic colors that can be used all year round! As always, if you are interested in becoming a Julep Maven, you can use my referral link here to sign up; use the promo code PENNY at the checkout to try your first month for just one cent! Have a great weekend <3
Press Sample I'm so super psyched to share this collection with you today. Miss Professional Nail (Sation) is one of my all time favorite brands, and they have released a new collection entitled "Miss-Terranean". This 6 piece collection not only has beautiful colors for Fall, but they are my favorite type of formula- "crelly" (a mix of a creme and jelly finish). They each applied nearly effortlessly and were very shiny as well. First, here's Don Wannabe- "glorious Grecian blue" (3 layers shown here) Napoleon Dyna-matte- a "captivating crimson". So shiny and perfect (2 layers): Winey Happy People- "rich velvety vino" (2 layers shown) Hottie Biscottie- this one is an off white creme with a hint of grey, and it is absolutely fab (3 layers): Tira Miss-U- "silky, sumptuous lavender". I am 100% in love with this gorgeous neutral! (3 layers): Need A Spumani- "muted pistachio". This one was my favorite from the collection! It's jelly formula and dusty color are so pretty for Autumn (3 layers shown): I did some Fall nail art with some of the colors from this collection. Of course, I went leopard print. I clearly have a leopard print obsession (this spills over into many areas of my life, not just nails ;-) I used Tira Miss-u as the base, and then did my leopard spots with Winey Happy People and Hottie Biscottie: Do you love this collection as much as me?! Which one is your fav? Sation nail lacquers can be purchased from the Miss Professional Nail website here!
I picked up a mini set of Essie's new fall collection this week. These 4 colors are all cremes and are perfect for fall! I was really surp...
I love looking at old vintage makeup ads, here's some lovely ones I googled :]
A blog about nail polish, nail designs, and beauty.
I went and bought yet another coral nail polish. I realize I have a problem hoarding nail polish, but lately it's been more of a specialized kind of obsession. I keep buying the same types of colors, specifically coral, turquoise, and nude. I'm afraid that if I pass one by, it may be "The One", and I'll be lost without it in my life. Dramatic, I know :D Here is Sinful Colors "Island Coral" with Julep "Brooke" on top. I've had Brooke for a few weeks and I haven't been sure what I wanted to layer her over. I decided today was THE day to break her out. I started with 2 layers of "Island Coral": One layer of "Brooke", a sheer purple base with pink, crushed glass style glitter, made this really juicy looking: Where To Buy: Sinful colors are available at Walgreen's, Target, and Harmon Beauty and are only $1.99. I received Brooke at a discount as part of the Julep Maven program ($19.99/month for a box full of nail stuff! You can also earn free boxes by referring others. You can currently used the code: COLOR2012 to get your first box for 1 penny! My sign up link: Julep.com.
I was very intrigued by this product that I received in my Julep Maven box this month - Julep's "Oxygen Treatment" helps weak and peeling na...
I finally found another Walgreen's close to me that has these frickin' Wet N Wild "Fergie" polishes. I love this one-"Hollywood Walk Of Fame". It has a clear base and multicolored star glitters and small bars. So cute! I layered it on top of Sinful Colors "Star Fish", a cool pink creme: (2 layers) A little placement is necessary with the stars, but really you have to expect that of any glitters that have larger pieces inside. The good news is that this has plenty of stars in the bottle, so getting them on your brush is no big deal: Another win for Fergie! I love it, although I can sort of "feel" the stars on my nails. I probably should have doubled up on top coat. What do you think of Hollywood Walk Of Fame?

I have OPI's newest collection, Euro Centrale, all swatched up and ready to show you today! I could not wait to see these colors in person, and they did not disappoint. This really is a great Spring collection with a cool theme centered around Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Romania! OPI deliciousness, served up on a platter. My Vampire Is Buff (3 layers)- a creamy off white delight that applied beautifully: Polka.com- (shown over My Vampire Is Buff) a clear based glitter with blue, turquoise, and purple hex glitters and blue micro glitters. And c'mon...how cute is this name? Hands Off My Kielbasa (3 layers)- a light, shimmery, bronze/tan with a hint of peachy-ness. I absolutely love this color: Oy- Another Polish Joke!- a shimmery sheer gold that glints beautifully in the sun...it almost looks like it is electrified! This was 4 layers of polish (yeah, I know) but well worth the final result: A Woman's Prague-ative- a coppery amber shimmer. I loved this one too and it covered well in just 2 layers: You're Such A Budapest- light pastel lilac with the slightest shimmer. This one was thinner than I expected, so I needed 3 good layers to cover completely: Suzy's Hungary Again! is a bright pink (even brighter in person than it shows here!). It borders neon, but doesn't completely "go there". This one also has a very slight shimmer. I think this is just so absolutely perfect for the season: I Can't Find My Czechbook- (groan...hahaha) A bright turquoise blue with a fantastic formula that I would call 95% creme, 5% jelly. LOVE.AT.FIRST.SIGHT! (2 layers) Vant To Bite My Neck?- (3 layers, but 2 would be enough in "real life") A deep, dark, inky violet creme that is chock full of vampiness: I Saw...U Saw...We Saw...Warsaw: (I love this name too, but damn- that's a long one to type out!) Is a dark navy creme. So super perfect (2 layers) OPI...Eurso Euro- a bright blue creme that I instantly fell madly in love with. (2 layers): I took the opportunity to layer "Oy-Another Polish Joke" on top of "OPI...Eurso Euro" and I gotta say, I LOVE this combo: My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours! - (2 layers) a bright, BRIGHT orange creme. Again, this one borders on being a neon. I'm a huge fan of this one too! This formula was a little bit on the thicker side on this one: Not only do I love all the colors, but being married to a Pole, I totally appreciate all the corny Polish references in the collection ;-) This collection officially launches tomorrow!! Are you going to pick any of these up?? I'll leave you with some parting words from OPI: Euro Centrale Collection nail lacquer shades contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and each includes OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. Euro Centrale by OPI will be available February 6, 2013, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer. Hi! How's it going? For today's Twinsie theme of "Something New", I'm showing you my new Lynnderella Nail Polish, Angel Food, sent to me by my friend Tara for my birthday this month. Not only is it a pretty awesome polish, but it's also the first time I'm trying this brand! For this manicure, I started with a base of Julep Martha (a cool toned pink from one of their Summer Maven boxes) and I then topped it with Lynnderella Angel Food (which has a sheer pink base with pinkish purple specks of glitter, larger satin white hexes, and some iridescence thrown in): Thanks again Tara for such a great polish!! I love it! Hey girl, hey! Today I'm sharing pictures of 2 of the new polishes from Essie's annual "Resort Collection"! These two shades instantly called out to me and I needed them at ONCE! (There are 2 others in the collection as well, a khaki & dark blue): Resort Fling- Yes, yes, YES! A melon hued jelly polish that is so juicy and delicious looking! I have to tell you that it is extremely sheer- I used 4 layers of polish here which is redic and something I will ONLY tolerate if the polish is utterly amazing. Since I love this color soooooo much, I will put up with it for the time being. Truth be told, you could probably get away with 3 layers in "real life" (as opposed to blog life, which is unrealistically up close & personal) Find Me An Oasis- a baby blue that is so bright, it's almost white! It looks clean and fresh and delightful on your hands and I'm willing to bet it would be that kind of color that makes your feet look more tan if you did a pedi with it (note to self: test this theory out). 2 layers of polish shown here: I think that both of these colors make great "transitional" shades to wear going from Winter into Spring. Will you be giving any Spring Essie's a test run? Thanks for reading!

Press Sample We're rolling right into 2014 with an awesome new collection from Nicole By OPI! This Carrie Underwood inspired set of 14 nail lacquers has something for everyone, including great shades to transition us from Winter into Spring! Love My Pups- a super pale, creamy pink (3 layers shown here): Southern Charm- OMG. This nude taupe cream turned out to be one of my favorites! It compliments my skin tone so well. I was surprised, because in the bottle it leans on the brown side, but on the nail, it's just perfect nude-ness! (3 layers): Sweet Daisy- a warm toned peachy-pink cream that is completely lovely. My Grandad used to call me 'Daisy', so I love the name! (3 layers of polish shown): Carnival Cotton Candy- a super bright, cool toned pink creme! Exactly like sweet cotton candy (3 layers): Color Me Country- a bright, warm hot pink cream that is another one of my favorites. I fall for this type of color all the time. I'm sure it's not completely original or groundbreaking, but it's just so pretty! (3 layers) Some Hearts- rounding out the "pink" half of this collection, we have this pink-red, almost jelly shade that is super shiny. (3 layers): American As Apple Pie- a perfect red with hidden shimmer flecks! (3 layers): Backstage Pass- dark and vampy burgundy shimmer. I'm madly in love with this! (3 layers) Lips Are Dripping Honey- a golden holographic glitter that flashes a ton of pink! Here's one layer over Backstage Pass: Goodbye Shoes- a slate/teal cream. So, so, so beautiful. I don't have many of these colors in my collection...I love it so much! (3 layers): Party Bus- a silver holographic glitter top coat with hexes and flower shaped glitters! 1 layer shown on top of Goodbye Shoes: Sing You Like A Bee- a white shimmer with a golden flash, this polish is on the sheer side but builds up coverage pretty well (I'm wearing 3 layers here): Fisher Queen- a dark, royal purple shimmer (3 layers shown): Last we have Carrie's signature shade, Carrie'd Away, a golden shimmer that is sheer, yet buildable (a lot like Sing You Like A Bee formula-wise). Here's 3 layers: I did a super quick nail art look using nothing but Carrie'd Away and Fisher Queen. I had Fisher Queen on as the base, and then just using the brush from Carrie'd Away, I dabbed on some spots (kinda leopard-esque, no?). I LOVE purple & gold together...there's just something very regal about it! There you have it! Starting the year off with a big, polish BANG! Which 'Carrie' polish is your fav?? Setting the record straight with these 5 beauty myths.
I'm on Day 4 in The Lazy Days Of Summer nail art challenge! The theme for Day 4 is "Flip Flops". I used Wet n Wild "I Need A Refresh-mint" for the turquoise and then topped those with China Glaze "Fairy Dust" (which, OMG, is awesome!). For the other nails, I used Sinful Colors "Island Coral" and then using a dotting tool put white polka dots on top. I used OPI "Onyx" for my straps. I wish the straps came out a little less lumpy, but hey- it was my first try ;-) I used a silver accent 'ball' to top off the straps: Here is the line up for the rest of the challenge!
Almost every brand have released a cushion foundation at some point (which is great because I'm a big fan!), and Maybelline have now followed suit. I featured this foundation in my what's new at the drugstore earlier this month and now that I have given it a good try, it's time that I share my thoughts and opinions with you today. DESCRIPTION Sponge filters the liquid formula to smooth and even the skin for a naturally luminous look. Pure liquid pigments deliver perfect coverage with an SPF of 40. PRICE $26.95 STOCKISTS Priceline Chemist Warehouse Target Big W PACKAGING It's very compact in size which is great for travelling and the mirror is incredibly handy for applying on the go. Like most cushion products, it comes with its own applicator that I actually really like because it applies the foundation smoothly and evenly with ease. It's also fantastic for touching up and you don't have to worry about packing a foundation brush. FORMULA The lightweight formula means it's almost like a second skin - you just forget it's on your face because of how comfortable and breathable it is. It's creamy yet weightless and it blends like an absolute dream over the skin! COVERAGE Cushion foundations often have light coverage but can be built up to medium and this one is no different. It does well to even out my complexion, cover redness and hide minor imperfections, but if you have problematic skin including scarring you will definitely need to add some concealer if you're wanting a more perfected base. FINISH It leaves my skin looking fresh with a natural glowy finish that's perfect for daytime wear. Unfortunately the lightest shade of the bunch is slightly too dark for my skin tone (pale girl problems), so that's a bit of a bummer. It didn't emphasize my pores or look cakey on the skin - overall it has a lovely finish with no sign of oxidization. LONGEVITY I wore this to my dentist appointment and did a little shopping afterwards, mind you it was a very warm day and throughout the six hours of wear I only had to blot once (I have very oily skin). It held up surprisingly well considering and there wasn't a whole lot of fading, separating or melting either. PROS Lightweight formula Breathable Natural and radiant finish Doesn't oxidize Evens out the skin tone Blends easily Doesn't sink into pores or transfer too much CONS Limited shade range FINAL THOUGHTS I think it's a good foundation and the pros definitely outweigh the cons. If you're looking for a light coverage foundation for day to day or you just prefer minimal makeup, then this one is a great option to go for. They don't cater to all skin tones which is a shame, and if you have an oily skin type then be sure to pack blotting sheets. For me personally, it's not my favourite simply because it doesn't match my skin tone so I won't get that much wear out of it. However, if you find the right shade for you then this is a great foundation to have in your makeup bag. Shop the post
Dude. I am wearing another pink today. It seems I cannot get enough of this color this week. I'm not sure if this is a new color or what, but I found Sinful Colors "Bare" last night when I was at Walgreen's in a display called "Heartbreaker". "Bare" is a somewhat mauve-y pink nude. It looks like a creme, but there is actually a micro-shimmer in this polish that makes it look soft and shiny: Sinful Colors, you are wonderful ( I love that they are only $1.99). This color is very "me" and I love it!
