Art for Delhi Comic Con exclusive poster Tomorrow is the start of Delhi Comic Con at the NSIC Grounds in Okhla, South New Delhi. I’ll be there all three days signing stuff, doing drawings and making a presentation on Sunday. I did the above illustration as a Delhi Comic Con exclusive for the show. It’s an imaginary MAD cover featuring Alfred as the title character from the Bollywood film “Enthiran” (“Robot” in English) starring a well-known and loved actor here in India, Rajinikanth. If you’ve never seen the movie “Enthiran”, here’s a link to a clip that will blow your mind. I have to thank…
After nearly 2 decades of being a fan I finally got to meet Tom Richmond (MAD Magazine) in Dublin in September last year. Not only meet, I participated in his caricature workshop that had been in the works for 3 years. Originally scheduled for 2020 it was postponed and then cancelled outright because of that ... This series of “How to Draw Caricatures” tutorials are a just a small taste of a larger and much more in-depth book I wrote called The Mad Art of Caricature! The book is 175 full-color pages, lavishly illustrated and contains greatly expanded explanations of the concepts presented in these tutorials, as well and a great deal of additional material on caricaturing other facial features, posture, hands, expression and more, techniques on drawing from live models, doing caricature for freeplace illustration and for MAD Magazine. This is a must have book for anyone interested in caricature, cartooning or humorous illustration. You can order it online here.…

This is going to be a long post because this story took place over the course of 18 months, had not a few twists and turns including my doing the final art TWICE, and ended up being something very different than what it started out to be. Plus I’ve been keeping this a secret for all this time, so I want to tell the story right. Bear with me… In March of 2018 I received an email from Chris Call of Call Props, who was serving as “Property Master” for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Chris had found me via…

Here’s a look at a handful of different commissions I did last weekend at the Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago:

Issue number four of the “new” MAD magazine just hit the stands this week. So how’s our beloved rag doing since its radical move to Burbank and a whole new editorial and art staff? I guess that depends on who you ask. Some really old school MAD aficionados are not too pleased with the new direction of the magazine. I’ve read comments about how this “isn’t MAD” and that certain articles don’t have the “MAD voice”. I’ve even seen the obligatory “Bill Gaines must be rolling in his grave” comments (that’s ridiculous… Bill was cremated, so at worst he’s billowing in his urn). Anytime you…

I CANNOT be SERIOUS??? Yet ANOTHER cropped close up sneak peek from my piece in MAD #15?!? I don’t know how much more of this the Interwebs can stand! Fortunately the issue comes out tomorrow!.

Back in issue 491 (July 2008), MAD decided to poke a little fun at the idea of “corporate colleges” like McDonald’s “Hamburger University”, and what other corporations might teach at such a school. Writers John Samony and Scott Maiko came up with this. Pencil roughs followed by final art (notice we changed the “Best Buy College” image in the final):

I shared a peek at the “Merry Poopins goes to the White House” splash page from MAD #6 last week, but that feature I did with writer Ian Boothby was six page long. So for the next few weeks I’m going to post a favorite panel from each page. This was my fav from page 3, mostly because of the background gag. I drew in a “David” statue with Trump‘s head, with a cell phone of course, and with even more enormous hands that the real David has. I think that is a gag but I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump hadn’t commissioned something like…
Here’s few more “mock” MAD cover commissions from my last “Virtual Artist’s Alley” event. Brush pens and Copic markers on bristol. Note I now add a tagline to the top of the cover! I suddenly realized since I am doing these at home and not at a comic con at an actual Artist’s Alley table, I can add a custom tagline via my studio printer right on the professionally printed “MAD” bristol cover stock. I sure am doing a lot of these fake MAD cover commissions. Wouldn’t it be nice to do another ACTUAL MAD cover? That would be really cool…
