This is our first offering of Lycoris x sprengensis 'September Cream Beauty' from the great lycoris breeding work of Japan's Komoriya Nursery. This cross of the Chinese Lycoris sprengeri x chinensis resulted in a spectacular hybrid, whose 22" tall stalks emerge for us, starting in mid-August, topped with a cluster of large flowers that open soft yellow, and quickly begin to age to soft pink. The color combination is absolutely elegant! The foliage emerges for us in mid to late February and goes dormant by June. We doubt this has ever been offered for sale in the US, and it will take us a while to rebuild stock for another offering.

Native to Japan and surrounding areas, it's a member of the amaryllis family. 💙Blue Spider Lily is a perennial bulbous plant that typically produces its stunning flowers in late summer or early autumn. Its standout feature is its vivid blue-violet flowers with long, spidery petals that give it a distinctive appearance. The name "Spider Lily" refers to the delicate, elongated petals that resemble spider legs. These eye-catching blooms emerge before the foliage, adding an element of surprise to the garden.Planting Conditions: Sunlight: Blue Spider Lily thrives in partial to full sun. It prefers a location with direct sunlight in the morning and some shade during the hottest part of the day. Soil: Well-draining soil is crucial to prevent waterlogging, as the bulbs are prone to rot. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH is ideal. Watering: During its active growing season in spring and fall, keep the soil evenly moist. However, once the foliage dies back, reduce watering to allow the bulbs to rest. Temperature: Blue Spider Lily is hardy in USDA zones 7 to 10. It requires a period of dormancy during winter, so it's important to provide a cold period for the bulbs. Spacing: When planting bulbs, place them about 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 cm) apart and at a depth of around 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm). Fertilization: Fertilize the bulbs in early spring before they start actively growing, using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Naturalization: Blue Spider Lily can be a stunning addition to naturalized areas, where it can spread and create a captivating display. (aka: Lycoris x houdyshelii) Lycoris x straminea 'Caldwell's Original', a 2015 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction is an absolutely superb selection of the naturally occurring hybrid of Lycoris radiata x Lycoris chinensis. 'Caldwell's Original' bursts out of the ground in mid-August with 26" tall chartreuse stalks, each bearing 6-8 frilly, creamy yellow flowers that take on a pink cast as they age...very showy! The October sprouting foliage holds up extremely well through the winter as though it isn't even cold...unlike any other Lycoris x straminea clones we grow. Consequently, flowering is extremely good each summer...a truly superb surprise lily.
Most of the tricks garden plants play on us are disappointing, so Magic Lily's dramatic, overnight late-summer bloom is all the more welcome. One of the stars of the sunny garden, this reliable performer puts on the final show of the season, offering large, bold trumpets of rosy-pink just as the bright annuals and perennials are fading. The glossy early-spring foliage passes and dies back weeks or even months before the blooms appear, and you may have forgotten all about them (or reluctantly chalked up a garden failure) when suddenly, almost literally overnight, the blooms open atop thick, leafless stems. The 2½-foot stalks are a useful size for the border or bednot tall enough to need staking, yet definitely a stately presence. The blooms are 2 to 3 inches across, their long petals bent back a bit to reveal a golden throat and prominent russet anthers. Long-lasting and quite abundant, they look too good to be true, but require nothing from you except admiration. The pink cast of these blooms led to the common name of Naked Ladies, but the flowers are also called the Resurrection Lily and Surprise Lily. Of course, it turns out that they aren't lilies at all (that would be too easy), but a member of the Amaryllis family. The original "plant and forget" bulb, Magic Lily asks only full sun and reasonably well-drained soil. Does not bloom the first year.
