WE'RE BAAACK! The family (including both dogs) took the high-speed car ferry from Portland, ME to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia for a week of Canadian Maritime fun! We rented a cottage on Digby Neck and explored the western side of the province. This shot is of the Lunenburg waterfront. Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as the principal harbor area is perfectly preserved and looks much as it did in the late 1700s. Such preservation is rare in colonial-era harbor towns, as fire, industrialization, or 1970s architecture have ruined many of them. The red paint on the Adams and Knickle buildings can be seen from miles away!

Lunenburg is the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. Established in 1753, it has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the home country. The inhabitants have managed to safeguard the city's identity throughout the centuries by preserving the wooden architecture of the houses, some of which date from the 18th century. 5 photos. https://dorpenstedennederland.blogspot.com/ https://fieggentrio.blogspot.com/
