Pool Noodle Olympics: fun Olympic activities for kids using pool noodles
Our 24th week in Pre-K fell right after Groundhog's Day, so it was a perfect time to talk about forest animals. To help students understand forest animals, we talked about camping and what animals you would see if you were camping. For some reason, the kids kept saying giraffe. I must have reacted tout in an amusing way the first time someone said it, because now every time I ask a question in class at least one student raises their hand and answers 'giraffe' then dissolves into a fit of giggles. Oh we'll, it's nice that some of them are getting to that joking age...even if their joke isn't as funny the 27th time. So on Monday we focused on groundhogs since Sunday was Groundhogs Day. I showed the students a video of the groundhog seeing its shadow and we read a story called 'Geoffrey Sees His Shadow'. We didn't focus too much on shadows because we were going to focus on shadows and light and dark the next week. We also touched on how the season was still winter and soon it would be spring, but again I didn't focus too much on that because we would be focusing on spring when it actually got here and there's no point in confusing them. For Monday's projects, we made this Groundhog Pop Up Puppet from http://mrsericaskindergarten.blogspot.com/2012/02/groundhog-day.html, and we also worked on a Camping Preschool Pack from http://homeschool creations.com/campingpreschoolpack.html. On Wednesday we talked about skunks and read the book 'Sassafras' about a skunk who thinks no one likes her because she stinks. We also made these Skunk Art Projects from Pinterest. Because the letter of the week was E, I had the kids practice writing their E's by writing the word 'Eeeeeew' around their skunk. On Wednesday I snuck in more hedgehog activities, because you can find hedgehogs in the woods, too! The kids made these cute Paper Plate Hedgehogs (from http://www.fiche-maternelle.com/fabriquer-un-herrison.html) which was a great activity to practice their cutting! Finally, on Friday, we had a day completely centered around bears. I read the books 'There's a Bear in the Woods' and 'It's the Bear!', then the kids made these Paper Bag Bears from http://theeducationcenter.com/my-files/mailbox/viewer.do?DETAIL=01_jul2kin_crafts&showPattern=true&isSaved=false&isColorVersion=false. For our movement activity, I planned to read the book,'Going on a Bear Hunt' then doing all the movements with the kids.

Amy Lemons at Step into 2nd Grade is having a linky party. Since I am new to blogging I decided it would be fun to join and share a little bit about myself! 1. I wake up every morning and have a Diet Coke with my breakfast...if I must be completely honest, on some mornings I have 2. I do not drink coffee so I guess you can say this is my coffee!! 2. My husband and I met on a blind date. Actually, a parent in my class set us up. We were going to meet at a school function, but it got rained out, so he called me up and took me to dinner. 13 years later we are still together! 3. I love shoes!! Let me clarify...I love high heels! I think it is because I am only 5' 3 inches tall. I bought a pair of flats earlier this year. I have to admit they were quite comfy!! Here's the story though: I was shopping at Costco and my cart was pretty full. Guess what? I could not see because I had the flats on. So as soon as I got home...the flats came off and the heels were back on!!!! Here are a few of my latest purchases!! 4. I met Gail Boushey and Joan Moser (The Sisters: Daily 5 and Cafe) this summer at their Seattle conference. I did have my picture taken with them. Infact, on one of the days Joan asked where I got my shirt, but cause she loved it!!! LOL...I felt like a celebrity!! This is not the shirt she loved...LOL!! 5. I am addicted to sweets. Let's be more clear, I LOVE chocolate. I might even be a sweet treat closet eater!! No, I don't sneak off into the closet to eat sweets, but sometimes I do nibble without him knowing. I love to bake!!! It relieves stress, but then I think it stresses me out even more because it makes you fat!! It's weird how my body works. It is like clock work that soon after I am done with a meal my body screams, "Where's the chocolate?" These are my peanut butter balls with Rice Krispies! Homemade Butterfingers! 6. I am the worst with photos. I guess I should say I am the worst at taking photos of me and my husband. This photo is from like 6 years ago!!! Thanks for stopping by!! It has been fun learning about everyone!!!
