What is OP ART? It is short for Optical Illusion. Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op art works are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black and white. or contrasting colors. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement: waving, spinning, swirling, vibrating... Here are 2 Well know OpArt artist.... Bridgett Riley 1931- now 88 years old when posted Victor Vassarley 1906-1997 Victor Vasarely was a Hungarian-French artist, who is widely accepted as a "grandfather" and Although these ideas seem modern and graphic, They have been around for thousands of years. Cross Contour line is traced back to the 1400s... This was created by Paolo Uccello. It uses 2000 intersecting points to map out the mathematical form of a chalice. CRITERIA: -Final must contain at least 3 circles (or other shape) using cross contour line on them to create 3 forms. -A background that gives the illusion of movement (warping, waving, swirling using lines or checkerboard. If using 2 colors, they must be CONTRASTING. (background samples below) HOW DO YOU DO THOSE!? Imagine me taking a picture of a student from the front, back, and side. Then I take the tangible pictures of them and cut them up into pieces. I rearrange them in a different order, then draw the new arrangement. There may be 3 eyes, 2 noses, and features from different angles... but that is the point! My definition. Creating like you are seeing something as if it was in a shattered mirror. Things are shifted, titled, and out of order. I may like her portraits more than Picassos! Cubism Portraits TEACHER EXAMPLES CUBISM PORTRAIT COLLAGE This is a cubism self portrait collage. I drew my eyes, nose, lips, and things I use often scattered on paper. I drew some on other pieces of paper too & pieces it together, CUBISM PORTRAIT DRAWING 1. On 12 by 18 white paper, divide the area into a variety of sections using a pencil. Have 10-15 areas somewhat evenly drawn out. 2. In each section, draw at least 2 eyes (each from different angle), 1 nose, 1 mouth, and an ear. They can also include parts of hair, neck, chin, cheeks, accessories, but do not need to include body parts below the neck. 3. Emphasize the pencil lines with either a sharpie, other markers, or use a harder line of whatever they are coloring with. This is keep the details they worked so hard on from disappearing after the coloring process. 4. After emphasizing, color using a theme (blue period, rose period, neutral tones, or abstract colors). The above examples of mine is sort of a cubist self-portrait drawing using crazy abstract colors. I tried to keep things in the relative area they are naturally in. This example of mine is using more neutral tones and it is harder to see who the person is in the portrait. This is because the features are more various and jumbled around in the composition. The Lost Sock is so important to me... My book, the philosophy, the dolls... All of it! It was and idea that was handed to me by God. I don't take credit for it. I just feel so blessed that he chose to use me to communicate His love in a way so unique. He gave me the idea for the book one sleepless night... (Explained here...) These two pages are from an autobiographical comic I created years ago, but never finished... it is an illustration of my Spiritual Testimony After much hard work, i finally finished what God had assigned me to do. I learned so much from it, and in the process learned a lot about my relationship with my Creator. Every picture was drawn in communication with my Creator. As I worked I felt so connected to Him in such a special way that I will never forget. I went through a lot of things since I made the book. I struggle with what God wants me to do with it from here. The worldy part of me wants to get rich and famous from it all, but in the end... It is not His plan. I KNOW the LostSock (dolls, book, and all) is his Legacy He wants me to leave. I know He will use it in a BIG way... but when and how? I pray not for my dreams to come true (because they are self seeking), but for Him to reveal His desires for me and change my dreams to fit His will. I am really excited about a new opportunity He is giving me on July 24th... I got blessed with the chance to read my Lost Sock book to kids who attend reading hour at Alba Library! They will introduce my dolls and have a free doll and book giveaway for the kids! http://albalibrary.org/ It may be a seem like a small step, but a sure step He is giving me! Life is sweet when you trust Jesus... if we do not follow His lead, we are following our own. That is a little scary. We are just lost children who pridefully think we know what we are doing. Without taking hold of our Father's hand, we can be pulled anywhere and spiritually kidnapped! I know the more I do that, the more mistakes I end up making. Eventually I just call out for my Father again and he rescues me and fixes all my mistakes for me. I have realized that I cannot trust myself or other people around me... nobody can be trusted. Thankfully, I have a Father that will never leave me. I only leave Him foolishly when my head gets to full of pride, or I doubt His all-knowing wisdom, or close my ears to His voice. I know He has great plans for me... and my book, my dolls, my blog,... and my dreams! Maisy and Me... This resource is made up of four fine motor transportation themed activities to strengthen muscle control students need in order to write and use scissors. There are tracing mats (Race cars to the stop sign), a cutting activity (Make a carwash), play doh activity (Add wheels to the monster trucks), and dot marker or pom-pom activity (Dab or place pom-poms onto the hidden picture). There are print friendly versions of each. They can be used in center or small group. Great to use for Transportation theme, or Things That Go theme. Decide which activity printables you plan to use, print and cut where necessary. You will need basic classroom tools like: buttons, scissors, toy cars, play doh, dot markers, crayons, dry-erase markers, and pom-poms. Directions: These activities can be done independently or during small group time. Here is an overview of each activity Tracing mats - Students can follow the line using a button, pencil or dry-erase marker. Car wash - Students will cut along the dashed lines to make a carwash. They can color their printable and drive toy cars through. Monster Trucks lost their wheels - Students can use play doh to make wheels for their monster truck. Here are play dough mats of monster vehicles missing tires. Another option is for students to use dry erase markers and draw wheels on. Dot Marker Vehicle - Students can dab the dots with dot markers to color their vehicles. There is a colored version as well that works with pom-poms and tweezers instead. Skills/Standards practiced: This activity is designed to align with the Preschool Foundational and Kindergarten Readiness Standards used in my state, which are: PHS.1.1 I can exhibit fine motor coordination (small muscle). PHS.1.1a.iii. I can coordinate finger and wrist movement to control scissors. PHS.1.1a.v I can hold a pencil and other writing tools with a mature pincer grasp (thumb to index finger grasp). Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian born German Artist, was an abstract artist, who dabbled for a time in the movement of Abstract Expressionism. He studied music growing up and was a teacher of Law & Economics. He left his job later in life to become and artist. He used his love for music to drive his art. He admired artists of his time that pushed the boundaries of tradition in the art world. He was inspired by Claude Monet's impressionistic style. He loved color! He believed that colors were more than just seen, but alive and emotional. He listened to music before and during his creative process. One time, while watching an opera, he said.. "I saw all my colors in spirit before my eyes. Wild, almost crazy lines were sketched in front of me." Kandinsky moved from Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism late in his art career. He said, "Lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and... STOP THINKING." What is ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM? Abstract expressionism is the term applied to new forms of abstract art developed in New York by American painters such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning in the Post World War II, 1940s and 1950s. It was the first specifically American movement to achieve international influence and put New York City at the center of the western art world, a role formerly filled by Paris. Abstract Expressionism is often characterized by gestural brush-strokes or mark-making, and the impression of spontaneous emotional expression. This was often called "action painting". To me, AEx is about using lines, shapes and colors to communicate a mood or emotion, Rather than trying to make an actual tangible portrait, landscape, or still life, AEx is creating a picture of something intangible, it is a picture of something emotional and untouchable.
