For several years in the mid-1920s the Underground Group owned London General bus company issued maps with 'corporate' covers - this version includes a "GeneraL" version of the Edward Johnston roundel and also uses a version of the "London's Underground" logo that was eventually phased out as the identity became centred on the use of the bar and circle roundel. The cover also uses Johnston typeface.

London Transport (LPTB as it was when Smith included this typeface in his book) and its predecessor the Underground Group, was, and still is, best known for its use of the Johnston 'Underground' sans serif typeface. However there are still a very few examples of a lettering by Smith, commissioned by the Underground Group's consultant architect Charles Holden, that was used in 1929 on 55 Broadway and at Sudbury Town and Cockfosters stations in 1932/33. Its use was not perpetuated.
