The Bitossi company was founded by Guido Bitossi, heir to a long line of craftsmen, in 1921 in Montelupo Fiorentino in Tuscany. From the beginning, the company was dedicated to traditional production and refinement of design. A fundamental contribution to the stylistic evolution of the company was given by the master ceramist and sculptor, Aldo Londi (1911-2003), who started working in the company in 1935. In 1946, he was appointed artistic director of the factory and his creations have been exported in all around the world. Londi is credited with the creation of the iconic Rimini Blue collection. Though the blue was not the only color Bitossi favored, it has become closely associated with the brand’s identity. The collection is still in production today and widely collected by ceramics enthusiasts. Today the company is called Bitossi Ceramiche and it continues to produce historical excellence in artistic ceramics and the designs that Londi and the other noted artists started.
