I have been so proud of the 2nd grade for their hard work over the last several weeks! I thought I would share some of the great work they have produced. First, the students picked an animal that they wanted to research. We then used a class set of Ipads to do our week-long research. I used the following paper found on TPT: I had them research 5 different topics for their animal: habitat, body, diet, life cycle, and a fun fact. After the week of research, we began our animal pyramid. We completed a triangular diorama a day. On day one, they wrote about the animal's habitat and then illustrated the animal in it's habitat. On day two, they wrote about the animal's body coverings and then drew a diagram of it with important parts labeled. On day three, they wrote about what the animal eats and illustrated. On day four, they got to pick between life cycle and fun fact for their final part of the pyramid. The final results were so good I decided to display them on tables outside my room. The students completed a Who Eats What food chain worksheet and then made a stacked food chain collage. It was challenging, but so very worth it. Wat heb je nodig? - 1 courgette - 2 preien - 2 kipfilets - 50 gram cashewnoten - 3 eieren - 2 el zuivelspread light - 100 gram geraspte kaas - 1 el kerriepoeder - 1 el paprikapoeder - roomboter - peper - zout - ovenschaal - oven Bereidingswijze: 1) Verwarm de oven voor op 175 graden. 2) Snijd de prei in ringen en de courgette in plakken. 3) Snijd de kipfilet in stukjes, kruid de stukjes met wat peper en zout en bak deze in een beetje roomboter goudbruin. 4) Voeg de prei toe aan de kipstukjes en bak deze even mee. 5) Meng de zuivelspread, de eieren, de geraspte kaas en de kerrie- en paprikapoeder tot een glad mengsel. 6) Roer de gebakken kip en prei door het mengsel en voeg ook de cashewnoten toe. 7) Bekleed de bodem en zijkanten van de ovenschaal met de courgetteplakjes. 8) Verdeel het mengsel over de courgetteplakjes in de ovenschaal. 9) Zet de ovenschaal gedurende 45 minuten in de voorverwarmde oven. Eet smakelijk!! 🍴

We have been trying to fit in a few fire safety activities the last couple weeks, so I could get this blog post out earlier in the week in case you are looking for a few extra activities! We did some discussing about what to do in case of an emergency! We learned to call 9-1-1! We used this template and decorated our numbers using the colors we see in fire! A lot of these activities are done with my preschooler BUT this one I let the girls do! They did a great job using the paintbrush to pain the glue on the numbers! Then, they were able to stick a few pieces of paper to the numbers! Using the paint brush with glue has been a huge hit over here and is a little easier than a glue bottle for projects like this! They turned out so cute and would make a great display at school! We also did a fun color words worksheet! Each flame has a color and we would color the flames to match. We are not reading yet, so I would say the color and he would find the marker! This next activity was a great way to practice "calling" 9-1-1! We used our fingers then we use dot markers. We talked about what an emergency is. AND calling because you need a snack is NOT an emergency ;) We also talked about things that are hot in our house. We wrote X's on post-its and put them on the hot things in our house. This was a great way to get some writing in! I made an X and he copied it then found all the things we should stay away from to be safe. Fire Safety Week is not complete if you don't make a firetruck out of shapes :) This was an easy activity and helped review shapes! We also pretended it was a real fire truck and drove it all around the house. Hopefully you found something you can add to your fire safety week! Ok so my Dear Husband like many husbands just LOVES to go shopping with me..lol.. The other day I actually got him to go grocery shopping at a Hispanic grocery store. He see the cactus flowers (Prickly Pears) and decides that he would like some. Seeing how no one else in our family likes them he was supposed to bag 1, 2 maybe 3 to eat that night with dinner, but come to find out at the cash register he actually bagged 20..... He says oh the kids will love them and that they will be all gone by the end of dinner. Not only were they not all gone by the end of dinner not one had been touched until I took them out of the fridge this morning, 12 days later..... Not going to say I told you so, Instead I decided to I would make something from them because I have this issue with waisting money. So here comes a great idea we can make jelly... Wait better yet we can make HOT Prickle Pear and Jalapeno Jelly.... 1. Seeing how we bought the pears at the store they did not have any pokers... so all I had to do was peel them with a pairing knife. 2. Place peeled and chopped pears, seeds and all, in a pot with about 2 cups of water. 3.Boil about 30-45 mins until soft and smushy. 4. Strain pulp and the strain again to make sure all seeds are removed from juice and pulp 5. Combine the following ingredients in a pot 10 jalapenos (de-stemed, de-seeded, and pureed) I used my magic bullet 1 cup apple cider vinegar 2 cups prickle pear juice ¼ cup lemon juice 5 cups sugar 2 pkgs of powered pectin 6. Bring to Boil 7. Allow to boil for 10 mins. 8.Ladle into prepped jars, and place lids on hand tight 9. Place in water and bring to boil (ensure there is about 1-2 inch of water above the top jar) 10. Boil for 10 mins 11. Remove and let cool.... This is so great on top of Cream cheese with crackers ... But I think my favorite is just to put a dab on a burrito... Never thought I would like it that way until my big sis showed me, No turning back now
