This was taken from the car ferry, half way across to Hunter's Quay from Mcinroy's Point. It's a really beautiful lighthouse with an impressive set of buildings behind it that have now been converted to housing.

Taken during a boat trip from Arbroath. The Bell Rock lighthouse is Britain's oldest rock lighthouse and was first lit in February 1811 (construction started in 1807). It was the first time that anyone had attempted to build a rock tower on a reef which is submerged for most of the day. The main credit for the design of the lighthouse has historically gone to Robert Stevenson (the grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson), however John Rennie the famous civil engineer may also have influenced its design. The lighthouse was automated in 1988. It was recently painted and looks a lot tidier than it did when I took this picture. The first light of a winter's day at the Bell Rock. The lighthouse was first lit in 1811 and will be 200 years old in February 2011. This is the SW facing side of the tower, the reason that the door was put on this side is that it is much more sheltered that the NE facing side. The 2009 paint job still looks good on this side of the tower. High tide was about an hour away when this shot was taken. The Angus coastline 12 miles away can be seen in the background.
