I'm Back! I know...you didn't know I was gone, but I was. We were visiting my son in Fort McMurray, Alberta - which is about a 15 hour trip by car. I'd say altogether we've covered about 3,000 km. in the past week and a half. It was so worth it though! We made quite a few stops on the way; one was in Drumheller. It's the place where they found a variety of amazing dinosaur bones in layers of the ground, which they've put back together and displayed. Many were still in the matrix they were found in. The museum there was phenomenal and I took some awesome photos! Anyway, I'm happy to be home, but wish my son and his family lived next door. I'm going to miss them all terribly! A few posts back I mentioned that I'd like to start doing some digi's that were associated with different countries. I did an old phone booth (I'll call it British), and today I'm adding wooden shoes for Holland. Filled with tulips! I just like polka dots...in fact, they kind of look like cheese...also a product of Holland! One is the Friesian flag...the hearts are red on white with blue stripes between. I'm from The Hague, but Friesians are also Dutch...just a different area. Now that I'm back, I have to get soaping! I also have the Ridgeview Card for this month to make up, and I have two anniversaries coming up....I know they're expecting home made cards. Better get busy!!! Thanks for stopping by! Blessings, Carmen

The Ruff (Philomachus pugnax), a sandpiper species, is a medium-sized wading bird that breeds in marshes and wet meadows across northern Eurasia, while spending the winter in sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterannean and through the Middle East to India and also Western Europe. The Ruff shows marked sexual dimorphism; the male is much larger than the female (the reeve), and has a breeding plumage that includes brightly coloured head tufts, bare orange facial skin, extensive black on the breast, and the large collar of ornamental feathers that inspired this bird's English name. The female and the non-breeding male have grey-brown upperparts and mainly white underparts. The male is 29 - 32 cm long with a 54 - 60 cm wingspan, and weighs about 180 gr. In the May-to-June breeding season, the typical male's legs, bill and warty bare facial skin are orange, and he has distinctive head tufts and a neck ruff. These ornaments vary on individual birds, being black, chestnut, orange or white, with the colouring solid, barred or irregular. The female, or "reeve", is 22 - 26 cm long with a 46 - 49 cm wingspan, and weighs about 110 gr. In breeding plumage, she has grey-brown upperparts with white-fringed, dark-centred feathers. The breast and flanks are variably blotched with black. The Ruff normally feeds using a steady walk and pecking action, selecting food items by sight, but it will also wade deeply and submerge its head. The Ruff eats insects, crustaceans, spiders, molluscs, worms, frogs, small fish, grasses and aquatic plants. This picture was taken in the aviary for European migratory birds in Diergaarde Blijdorp (Zoo Rotterdam, Netherlands).
