Israel Silver ha lasciato Red Oak Manor appena finito il liceo ed è tornato a casa sempre più raramente, troppo impegnato a inseguire il sogno di condividere la sua musica con il mondo. La grande occasione per lui arriva nove anni dopo il suo trasferimento: un’etichetta discografica gli offre un contratto per il suo prossimo disco e lo riporta a pochi chilometri dal luogo in cui è cresciuto. Virginie invece non è mai uscita da Red Oak Town. Ha una passione per il disegno, un solo amico, diciott’anni, molti dubbi e un’unica certezza: il suo cuore appartiene da sempre a Israel Silver. Glielo ha lasciato ancora prima di rendersene conto e non lo ha mai rivoluto indietro. Non lo rivuole nemmeno ora che lui è tornato. Neppure adesso che Israel cerca di tenerla a distanza. Perché per lui Virginie è proibita. Perché porta il suo stesso cognome e non dovrebbe guardarla. Non dovrebbe desiderarla. Ma Israel la guarda. La vede. E la desidera più di ogni altra cosa. Eppure, il conto da pagare per quella attrazione è davvero troppo salato. E cosa puoi fare quando tutto ciò che vuoi è a un solo passo, ma quel passo è proprio sull’orlo di un precipizio? La mia opinione Io posso scegliere. E scelgo di amare lui. Lui che si definisce “un problema”. E che invece è la mia unica occasione di felicità. Issue è il terzo contemporary romance della Red Oak Manor Collection, ma come i precedenti è autoconclusivo per la coppia protagonista. Questo romanzo ha tutte le caratteristiche per essere pienamente apprezzato da chi ama leggere di amori proibiti, segreti familiari e personaggi legati al mondo della musica. Israel e Virginie sono entrambi narratori in prima persona a capitoli alterni, tipo di narrazione che preferisco in assoluto, soprattutto in storie così sofferte. Israel è uno dei ragazzi che ha vissuto per molti anni al maniero in seguito alla morte dei genitori. Iz è sempre stato un tipo di poche parole, a parlare per lui ci pensano le sue canzoni, e nel momento in cui inizia Issue è in procinto di raggiungere il suo sogno e diventare un rapper famoso insieme alla sua crew. Per arrivare a quel punto, però, ha dovuto lasciare Red Oak Town per anni e di conseguenza anche le due persone più importanti della sua vita: il fratello maggiore Levi e la nipote Virginie. Dopo quattro anni senza mai vedersi, quando finalmente torna a casa, Iz deve fare i conti con una Virginie cresciuta, completamente cambiata e arrabbiata. La ragazzina che da piccola lo adorava ora è diventata una donna, ha diciotto anni, una lingua impertinente, e non si fa problemi a esprimergli il suo disprezzo per essere sparito per tutto quel tempo. C’è sicuramente dell’odio-amore nell’aria nei primi momenti che passano insieme, ma decisamente non si tratta di un amore “fraterno”. Per colpa di questa attrazione, Israel e Virginie si sentono sbagliati, perché ciò che provano è proibito, anche se lo pensano per ragioni diverse. Fin dai primi capitoli è chiaro che Israel ha il quadro completo della storia, e attraverso i suoi capitoli anche chi legge intuisce diverse cose, ma Virginie proprio no. Virginie è una protagonista che mi è piaciuta nonostante la sua insicurezza e le scelte sbagliate, è alla ricerca di se stessa e di una verità che mai avrebbe immaginato. È chiaro che il padre Levi voglia solo il suo bene e che cerchi di proteggerla in tutti i modi, ma visti tutti i divieti da lui imposti, alcuni decisamente strani, mi sarei fatta 1000 domande anche io! Israel è da occhi a cuoricino sempre. Per lui la famiglia è molto importante (anche se è stato via per anni), è molto protettivo verso Virginie e prova per lei un amore unico che mai avrebbe pensato di poter provare. Ciononostante cerca di contrastarlo, per il bene di lei e quello del fratello, ma quando due anime sono così collegate certi risvolti sono inevitabili. Per fortuna, direi! Bianca Ferrari è riuscita a farmi tifare per questa coppia per tutto il romanzo, che poi è ciò che conta davvero in un forbidden romance. Oltre al lato forbidden molto intenso, ci sono diversi segreti di famiglia con cui fare i conti, alcuni davvero terrificanti. Se devo essere del tutto onesta, ad un certo punto l’ho pure intuito quel colpo di scena finale, anche se speravo di sbagliarmi. Gli eventi di Issue si vanno ad incastrare con i precedenti volumi della collection, rivediamo personaggi secondari che abbiamo già incontrato ed altri che ritroveremo nei futuri romanzi! Ora aspetto con ansia il prossimo, che secondo me è quello su Connor e Misty (che qui vediamo entrambi, essendo compagni di Virginie). Lettura consigliatissima, questa collection continua ad essere una gran bella rivelazione! Il narratore di storie di Rita Nardi Editore: Garzanti Data di uscita: 17 ottobre 2023 Sogna in grande, Trinity. Era la frase con cui papà mi dava la buonanotte. Si sedeva sotto il nostro acchiappasogni e mi leggeva i suoi racconti per spazzare via gli incubi. Ora che lui non c’è più, passo le sere a bordo della mia auto, con il finestrino abbassato, il cappuccio in testa e la musica dei Bee Gees che sovrasta il rumore delle onde. D’altronde, qui a Seafolk, non c’è nulla da fare. Ma la monotona routine a cui sono ancorata sta per essere stravolta dall’arrivo di Acher Morris. Mia madre ha deciso di ospitarlo per aiutare la sua migliore amica, ma io non lo voglio in casa mia. Per quanto mi riguarda, può mettere in valigia le sue immacolate camicie di lino e uscire dalla porta, con i suoi odiosi ricci e i suoi finti sorrisi educati. Voglio che se ne vada dallo studio in cui mio padre scriveva le sue storie solo per me. Voglio che fugga lontano dalle mie parole taglienti, dalla mia rabbia che sobbolle, dai miei sbagli a cui risponde con irritanti silenzi. Eppure, solo lui riesce a scovarmi al faro quando voglio stare da sola. Solo lui non mi volta le spalle quando esplodo. Solo lui capisce il mio dolore. Noi due, tempesta e quiete, insieme, ci completiamo. La mia opinione Il narratore di storie è il secondo romanzo autoconclusivo di Rita Nardi, che anche questa volta ci racconta la storia di due giovani adulti. La protagonista e narratrice in prima persona è Trinity, una ragazza all’ultimo anno di liceo che ha dovuto fare i conti troppo presto con la perdita di una persona importantissima che per lei era un punto di riferimento: suo padre. Noi la ritroviamo nove mesi dopo la tragedia, conosciamo una diciottenne disillusa, arrabbiata, asociale e con degli evidenti problemi col cibo. Quando riceve dalla madre la notizia che il cugino di secondo grado che non ha mai visto verrà a stare a casa loro per un certo periodo, Trinity ha una reazione eccessiva, rifiuta l’idea di avere un estraneo in casa sua, a invadere i suoi spazi e la sua routine. Inizialmente l’ho trovata un po’ esagerata, non è quel tipo di protagonista che ispira subito simpatia, ma pian piano ho iniziato a capire il perché di certe sue uscite e azioni, in fin dei conti ognuno affronta il lutto in maniera diversa. Archer è un diciannovenne con molti pesi sulle spalle. La madre è gravemente malata e le cure sperimentali costano decisamente troppo per un ragazzo che frequenta ancora il liceo. Oltre a questa situazione è palese che nasconda anche qualcos’altro... Archer e Trinity sono due anime ferite e affini, lui la comprende, cerca di spronarla a smettere di sopravvivere e iniziare finalmente a vivere. Il loro rapporto ha alti e passi, c’è dell’odio-amore, tentativi di starsi alla larga e un pizzico di proibito vista la loro parentela, ma al cuore non si comanda … Non aspettatevi delle scene spicy, ma va bene così, c’è dell’attrazione tra loro, dei sentimenti combattuti e anche dei baci tanto desiderati. La prosa di questa autrice è scorrevole, emotiva e nostalgica, grazie anche a quei ricordi del passato di Trin e suo padre e al potere che hanno le storie. Se avete voglia di leggere una storia che parla di perdita, di lutto, di amore paterno e amore romantico e che da speranza allora vi consiglio questa lettura. Nonostante abbia dovuto ordire un piccolo inganno e mentire sul suo lavoro alla Conscience Connect per realizzare il proprio obbiettivo, ha quasi ottenuto il finanziamento per l’ente di beneficenza a cui tiene da tutta la vita. Il ritorno inaspettato del suo capo Kendra mette in crisi l’idillio. Soprattutto quando Tess scopre che il suo innocente sotterfugio nasconde un inganno ben più crudele: anche Scott le ha mentito… proprio come lei ha fatto con lui, sin dall'inizio. Mesi prima di incontrarla, infatti, Scott ha stretto un accordo d’affari con il padre, uno che è destinato a tagliarla fuori dalla sua vita. Essere un Sebastian è un incredibile privilegio, tuttavia il prezzo da pagare per il buon nome della famiglia per Scott stavolta potrebbe essere troppo caro. Tirarsi indietro dall’accordo è impossibile, perché Henry Sebastian non è il tipo d’uomo da rimangiarsi la parola data. E pur di impedire la relazione di suo figlio con Tess, è disposto a spingersi al limite. Tra gli inganni, gli ostacoli e l’ombra del sospetto, per Tess e Scott diventa sempre più difficile rimanere l’uno accanto all’altra. Non è facile sfuggire alle grinfie dei Sebastian: l’unico modo per vincere al gioco di bugie a cui entrambi si sono prestati sarà confessare la verità e proteggere il loro amore appena sbocciato. Il capitolo conclusivo del remake in chiave letteraria del film premio Oscar Una donna in carriera. La mia opinione «Giocare era divertente, ma avevo capito da un bel pezzo che, alla fine, il divertimento si esauriva.» Devozione è il secondo libro della dilogia Man in Charge di Laurelin Paige. Dopo il clamoroso cliffhanger che ha lasciato in sospeso più di una questione, la storia riprende esattamente da dove si era interrotta. Tess ha scoperto che Scott, l’uomo di cui si sta innamorando bello, ricco e irraggiungibile, è il promesso sposo di una donna molto influente: Kendra, nonché la sua capa e amica. La situazione è a dir poco scottante, perché Scott non ha alcuna intenzione di sposare Kendra, né di contrarre un matrimonio farlocco e rendere la donna che gli sta sconvolgendo la vita la sua amante. Tess non sa cosa fare e, a questo punto, il suo inganno non sembra poi più così tanto grave. «Tra di noi era così. Fiamme e fuochi d’artificio.» In ballo ci sono tanti sentimenti, voglia di svettare la scala sociale, mettere in discussione gli status e soprattutto scegliere cosa si vuole per davvero – anche se significa perdere tutto. Rimane centrale una tematica molto delicata, quella della disabilità dovuta a una malattia particolare e poco conosciuta: la neuropatia autonomica; l’autrice la tratta in modo delicato senza nascondere le difficoltà. Accanto a tutto ciò… spicy ne abbiamo? Direi a tonnellate, il che è un punto a favore anche se avrei gradito un po’ più di varietà; ci sono tante scene piccanti, d’altra parte siamo di fronte un romance con sfumatura erotic, e a volte si somigliano un po’ troppo. C’è da dire però, che questa autrice è bravissima a ricreare atmosfere, sensazioni e a rendere tangibili i legami che ci sono tra i personaggi. Mi sono piaciuti molto sia Scott che Tess, così come i personaggi secondari che non sono lasciati al caso, bensì ben delineati e parte integrante della storia. Vi consiglio questo romanzo (e mi raccomando: attenzione alla temperatura, perché a tratti è veramente alta!). Il problema è che Elise preferisce intrufolarsi nelle sale da gioco con la servitù piuttosto che partecipare come una principessa silenziosa a un ballo. Tutto cambia quando lo zio la costringe a sposarsi. Se rifiuta, il suo malato padre ne pagherà le conseguenze. Intrappolata dal senso del dovere, Elise viene affidata a Legion Grey che ha in mano molto più del suo futuro e che risveglia in lei una rabbia impetuosa e una passione proibita. Quando un colpo di stato mette a soqquadro il regno, Elise fugge con Legion, solo per scoprire che proprio lui nasconde più segreti di chiunque altro. La mia opinione "Una condanna di ombre e spine" è il primo romanzo della serie "The Broken Kingdom". I primi tre romanzi hanno come protagonisti sempre Elise e Legion, mentre i successivi altri personaggi che incontreremo leggendo. Il libro comincia con lo zio di Elise, il re, che le ordina davanti a tutti di trovare marito e sposarsi. Quello che dovrà decidere il suo pretendente e futuro sposo, sarà Legion, uno straniero che viene da lontano e per cui lei ha un certo apprezzamento. Questo compito, però, non risulterà per nulla facile, perché Elise non è la solita principessa ligia al dovere. Preferisce di gran lunga passare la notte a mettersi nei guai, piuttosto che ad un ballo pieno di regole. Soprattutto, non vuole essere incastrata in un matrimonio senza amore. E sa già che farà molta fatica a trovare ciò che vuole in un matrimonio forzato. Essendo costretti a passare tanto tempo insieme, lei e Legion cominciano a costruire un rapporto, che man mano diventa sempre più profondo. Non dovrebbero provar nulla l'uno per l'altra visto che lui deve darla in sposa a qualche nobile del regno, ma le cose non sempre vanno come si vorrebbe. O meglio, come dovrebbero. In questo romanzo, conosciamo Legion solo attraverso gli occhi di Elise. Lui è un combattente con due compagni fidati, e condivide con lei molte più cose di quanto entrambi sospettassero. Peccato che nasconda un gigantesco segreto, di cui non è neanche del tutto a conoscenza lui stesso. Ho inaspettatamente amato questo romanzo. Non avevo grandi aspettative, perché la parte di fae e di matrimonio di convenienza non mi entusiasmava, ma posso dire che ero del tutto fuori strada e sono ben felice di avergli dato lo stesso una possibilità. La storia di Elise e Legion è emozionante, piena di momenti rubati, baci nascosti e segreti. E le cose cominciano a farsi ancora più interessanti quando c'è un improvviso colpo di stato che costringe entrambi a fuggire per aver salva la vita. Con questo libro, la Andrews getta le basi per un nuovo mondo interessante e pieno di intrighi. Il finale riesce a capovolgere la situazione ed è davvero un peccato che il secondo non sia stato ancora tradotto, sennò lo avrei già iniziato subito, perché il modo in cui si conclude, anche se per certi versi va bene, per altri dovrebbe essere illegale. Dopo tutto il rapporto costruito tra Elise e Legion non posso essere lasciata in questo modo. Nel totale darei a questo romanzo quattro stelle e mezzo e lo consiglierei a tutte le amanti del romantasy. Non aspettatevi draghi, però. Non ce ne sono. Amore Combinato di Aubrey B. (Royal series Vol. 1) Self-publishing su Amazon "Le regole sono fatte per essere infrante" Ad Alyssa Giselle Charlotte Kahn, principessa di Dervelot, basta una sola occhiata per rendersi conto del fatto che l’uomo che è stata costretta a sposare è il suo esatto opposto. Lei è composta, irreprensibile, e rispetta sempre le regole che le vengono imposte. Ad Ethan Bradley Alexander Begum, principe di Kelson, è sufficiente posare lo sguardo sulla donna a cui si ritrova legato per capire che sarà una spina nel fianco. Lui è rilassato, irriverente, e vive secondo le sue regole. Un principe. Una principessa. Un matrimonio combinato. Quando i confini tra finzione e realtà si confondono, anche il limite tra odio ed amore si fa più sfumato. La mia opinione Amore Combinato è il primo libro di Aubrey B. che leggo, sono rimasta incuriosita dalla trama e sebbene i Royal romance non siano il mio genere preferito, questo libro mi ha conquistata. Ora, cosa fare nel ventunesimo secolo quando i rispettivi regni sono in guerra da decenni se non organizzare un bel matrimonio combinato? Infatti, Alyssa, principessa di Deverlot, e Ethan (Bradley per gli amici), principe di Kelson, convoleranno a nozze per portare finalmente la pace tra la loro gente e i loro rispettivi paesi. Ovviamente nessuno dei due è anche solo lontanamente felice della situazione, e se da una parte Alyssa vorrebbe almeno mantenere le apparenze e instaurare un rapporto di reciproco rispetto, dall’altra Bradley non ha nessuna intenzione di avere la principessa a meno di un kilometro di distanza da se. Lei è una principessa modello, sempre pacata e composta, e anche piuttosto rigida, è abituata a soffocare i suoi sentimenti in favore di un’apparenza stoica che le è stata imposta fin dall’infanzia. Lui invece è tutto il contrario, è decisamente insofferente alle regole e pretende di fare le cose a modo suo. Eppure, sebbene si impegni a dare il peggio di se, da subito emerge il suo lato generoso e giusto, è un buon principe, anche se lui non ci crede. Tra i due volano subito scintille e fino alla fine la situazione non cambia di una virgola, ho apprezzato molto che i due personaggi si siano ammorbiditi ma non abbiano cambiato il loro modo di essere. Ho adorato inoltre vedere la loro relazione crescere a piccoli passi e in modo piuttosto naturale, senza forzature, grazie anche anche allo zampino dei rispettivi amici, soprattutto di Damien. Ho amato il suo personaggio e spero davvero che l’autrice scriva qualcosa su lui e Olimpia, perché le battute al vetriolo che si scambiano promettono gioie. Unica piccola pecca, secondo me, è stato il finale un po’ frettoloso, ma niente che mi abbia rovinato la lettura. Lo consiglierei a tutte le amanti del genere Royal romance e anche a chi, come me, ha cominciato ad apprezzarlo grazie a questo libro. L’occasione gli si presenta quando Zeus, fratello della principessa Elena, indice un torneo per trovare il nuovo Ares a cui lei andrà in sposa. Achille si candida insieme a Patroclo, deciso a restare al fianco dell’amato il più a lungo possibile. Ma Elena ha altri piani: contro ogni aspettativa, si iscrive al torneo insieme agli altri pretendenti, per vincere lei stessa la propria mano e regnare da sola. La concorrenza è agguerrita: tra gli outsider dell’Olimpo – il Minotauro, Teseo e la guerriera Atalanta – c’è anche Paride, il suo ex violento. Ma, forse, i più pericolosi potrebbero rivelarsi gli uomini da cui non può fare a meno di essere attratta: Achille e Patroclo. La mia opinione "La bellezza degli dei" è il terzo romanzo della serie "Dark Olympus" di Katee Robert, in cui rivisita alcuni miti in chiave dark. In questo caso, il mito affrontato è quello di Elena di Troia, mischiato alla storia di Achille e Patroclo. Tra tutti i romanzi della serie, questo è quello che mi ha ricordato di più che la storia non è ambientata nel nostro mondo. Infatti, mi è sembrato quasi di essere immersa in un mondo distopico alla "Hunger games" o "Percy Jackson", ma con ben più spicy . Zeus decide di indire un torneo per trovare il nuovo Ares, che, una volta vinto, dovrà sposare Elena. Lei, non contenta di questa sorte e desiderosa di mostrare il suo vero valore, decide di parteciparvi come concorrente. Ma non è l'unica. Anche Achille e Patroclo vi partecipano per un loro tornaconto ben preciso. I tre si ritrovano a formare un'alleanza inaspettata per superare gli ostacoli del torneo e arrivare alla prova finale. Peccato che, quella che parte come un'alleanza militare, si trasforma in qualcosa di ben più focoso e passionale, rendendo una relazione già salda tra due persone, ancora più forte in tre. Al di là dei personaggi ben costruiti e con personalità contrastanti e forti, devo dire che mi è piaciuto soprattutto lo sviluppo del ménage. Non è facile riuscire a costruire una storia in questo modo, senza cadere in determinate situazioni che potevano far storcere il naso. L'autrice è riuscita a creare una storia delicata e dinamica allo stesso tempo, senza diventare volgare o ripetitiva. Il rapporto tra Elena, Patroclo e Achille è veramente unico e speciale e ti fa amare i protagonisti ancora di più. Achille non è mai tra i miei personaggi preferiti in nessun retelling che lo vede coinvolto, ma in questo ho avuto l'impressione di capire un bel po' di più il suo essere e il suo amore verso Patroclo, che va oltre il semplice possesso. Patroclo è sempre un cucciolo di cervo che va protetto in qualsiasi storia si legga su di lui, ed è così anche per questa. Non di meno, è sempre emozionante vedere il suo sacrificio e la sua forza interiore che non sempre viene apprezzata come dovrebbe. Elena è la vera regina di questa storia, con la sua grinta e la sua astuzia, smuoverebbe mari e monti pur di ottenere quello che vuole. Solo che le cose cambiano con il tempo e anche i propri obbiettivi. Ho apprezzato moltissimo anche il modo in cui la Robert ha concluso questa storia e ha creato un epilogo soddisfacente per i personaggi. Nel totale darei quattro stelle e mezzo, perché nonostante abbia amato alla follia questo libro, non riesco a non fare il paragone con "Neon Gods" e quello ha tutto il mio cuore. Di sicuro lo consiglio a chi vuole leggere un retelling in chiave spicy di un mito un po' diverso dal solito. Vi conviene mettere le aspettative da parte, però, perché sicuramente non sarà come niente che vi aspetterete. La vendetta non è per le vittime: è per attenuare a chi viveva a stretto contatto con loro il rimorso di non aver fatto nulla per impedire qualcosa di brutto. RECENSIONE: La storia di Lale è drammatica, intensa e sconvolgente: questo libro raccoglie e narra i dettagli di un'esistenza infernale, di un luogo dell'orrore... in cui, però, trova spazio l'amore. O meglio, l'amore si ritaglia, con una forza quasi assurda, uno spazio nell'indicibile violenza nella quale i protagonisti sono costretti a vivere. Lale arriva ad Auschwitz il 23 aprile del 1942 e si fa una promessa: lui ne uscirà vivo. Giorno dopo giorno non smette mai di provarci e, per riuscirci, accetta il lavoro di Tatowierer (tatuatore), esercizio che viene da molti considerato un tradimento nei confronti del suo stesso popolo. Ma con Lale questa professione si trasforma nella speranza e nelle salvezza di molti: il tatuatore cerca infatti di aiutare quanti più prigionieri possibile, sfruttando i privilegi offerti dalla sua posizione. La parte femminile della vicenda è Gita, ebrea slovacca che attira l'attenzione di Lale nel momento esatto in cui lui è costretto a infliggerle il dolore e l'umiliazione di diventare un numero. In un universo di disperazione e inumanità tra i due cresce l'amore e diventa , un po' per tutti quelli che li conoscono, un simbolo vivente di speranza: nessuno può privarli di almeno un attimo di felicità. E loro da lì usciranno vivi, se lo sono ripromessi a vicenda. I temi e le storie dei personaggi sono assolutamente commuoventi... ma ciò che non mi ha convinto molto è lo stile con il quale sono narrate: troppo biografico e troppo poco "poetico". L'autrice è frettolosa e si sofferma poco sui singoli dettagli ed eventi; avrei preferito delle sfumature più introspettive, più emotive e meno cronologia di avvenimenti. Probabilmente questa è stata una scelta volontaria, volta a trasmettere l'idea che la violenza fosse diventata così quotidiana e scontata da obbligare le vittime a "sorvolare" sulle loro reazioni, per non cedere alla disperazione. Tutto ciò, però, non mi ha permesso di cogliere la gravità di alcune scene e alcuni personaggi sono rimasti un po' indefiniti. Questo vale, per esempio, per l'ufficiale Baretski, del quale non ho compreso davvero la natura e l'atteggiamento nei confronti di Lale: tra i due si è sviluppata una qualche forma di simpatia o la relazione è tuttalpiù sarcastica? Per farvi capire cosa intendo, vi dico che questa domanda mi è rimasta irrisolta: Baretski avrebbe sparato davvero a Lale? O non l'avrebbe fatto? Per essere proprio sincera, non so se ho affrontato quest'opera nel modo corretto, forse non l'ho capita appieno. O forse davvero lo stile non è adatto. In ogni caso ne consiglio la lettura, visto il tema trattato: è una storia vera e conoscerla è importante. Ah, ci tengo ad aggiungere che la parte più toccante, per me, è stata la postfazione, scritta dal figlio di Lale e Gita. Fatemi sapere cosa ne pensate :) Alex

La mia opinione Alla Waylon University c’è una leggenda: il ragazzo che bacerai al falò durante il primo anno sarà quello che non riuscirai a dimenticare. Delaney è una matricola alla Waylon: nerd, amante dei gatti e di Star Wars, viene trascinata al falò dalla sua migliore amica Skye. Qui attira l’attenzione di Maverick Monroe, giocatore di football, e ragazzo molto popolare. Tra loro scatta una scintilla ma Maverick, dopo averla baciata, se ne va addirittura con due gemelle. Delaney non ci pensa più e poco dopo si fidanza con Alex, un altro giocatore di football. Dopo 2 anni però, Delaney è ritornata single dopo il tradimento di Alex con Martha-Muffin, una ragazza che conquista i giocatori. È l’occasione per Maverick: lui non ha mai dimenticato quella ragazza del falò, ma bisognerebbe stare alla larga dalle ex dei compagni di squadra. Anche Delaney non vuole avere niente a che fare con un altro atleta, quindi Maverick dovrà trovare un modo ingegnoso per avvicinarla. La vita del ragazzo non è semplice, oltre alla scuola e al football, deve pensare anche alla sorella minore, rimasta disabile dopo l’incidente che ha causato la morte della madre. Riuscirà a conciliare tutto e ad avere una carriera professionistica e soprattutto Delaney? Primo libro che leggo della Madden-Mills e sono convinta che dovrò andare a recuperare tutto quello che è già stato tradotto. Ho letto il libro in un giorno, davvero scorrevole. I capitoli sono molto brevi e il pov di entrambi i protagonisti ti permette di entrare ancora più in sintonia con i due ragazzi. Maverick, anche se è un ragazzo estremamente popolare, dentro è rimasto una persona semplice, che ama sua sorella e farebbe di tutto per lei. Anche cacciarsi nei guai e mettere in pericolo il suo futuro. Mi è piaciuto tantissimo nei suoi momenti con Raven e con Delaney. Si vede che è sempre combattuto tra quello che vuole e quello che deve fare. È molto dolce, ma anche molto passionale e deciso. Ho apprezzato molto anche Delaney, che sarà anche una ragazza un po’ nerd, ma non per questo è impacciata o a disagio in società. Sa divertirsi e sa prendersi quello che vuole. E non vuole rinunciare alla sua storia con Maverick. I momenti hot sono presenti e ben descritti, ma non sono mai eccessivi. Spero che escano a breve anche i volumi successivi, a partire da Ryker, il migliore amico di Maverick, e il suo perizoma leopardato! Pur essendo una principessa, la sua esistenza è stata tenuta segreta sin dalla nascita affinché nessuno sapesse che la legittima erede al trono, Tabra, ha una gemella. Le due sorelle sono perfettamente identiche e Meren, nata per seconda, assume l’identità di Tabra ogni volta in cui si teme che qualcosa possa minacciare la vita della principessa. Quando la regina madre muore, il destino del regno di Aryd dipende dall’incolumità della nuova regina, Tabra. E così la gemella Meren si presenta alla cerimonia di incoronazione al suo posto, consapevole che tra le centinaia di occhi che la guardano potrebbe esserci qualcuno che non lo fa con benevolenza. Ma quello che accade va oltre ogni possibile previsione: una creatura fatta di oscurità la rapisce, portandola via con sé. Le ombre che brandisce, però, non bastano a spaventare Meren. È cresciuta preparandosi al pericolo, ha dovuto imparare a non averne paura. E a guardare oltre le apparenze. Riuscirà a salvarsi e a mettere al sicuro il futuro del Regno? La mia opinione Ho scelto di leggere questo libro perché l’autrice sarà presente al #RARE a Firenze e perché ho un debole per i fantasy con romance. Leggo la trama, ok, sembra davvero interessante! Inizio. Naturalmente essendo un fantasy ed essendo il primo libro di una serie all’inizio si fa un po’ fatica a capire che tipo di personaggi ci siano, che poteri abbiano e che ruolo giochino. Meren è la sorella gemella di Tabra, futura regina del regno di Aryd, e il suo ruolo è sempre stato, fin dalla nascita, di ricoprire la parte della sorella nelle situazioni di pericolo e di sostituirsi a lei in caso di morte. Questo perché il regno è minacciato dal perfido Eidolon che vuole impossessarsi di tutto. Quando la nonna, regina in carica, muore, Meren capisce che la sua vita sta per cambiare definitivamente: dovrà dire addio alle sue scorribande notturne per la città, al suo migliore amico Cain e dovrà aiutare in tutti i modi Tabra. Ma i suoi piani vengono scombinati dalla comparsa di uno strano personaggio fatto di ombre e di oscurità, Reven, che la rapisce e la porta via con se. Meren all’inizio si oppone con tutte le sue forze e cerca di scappare e di tornare a casa, anche perché ha scoperto che Eidolon si sta recando ad Aryd per sposare sua sorella, ma quello che scopre su Reven la porta a cambiare opinione su di lui e a decidere di aiutarlo. In fin dei conti hanno lo stesso scopo finale. Che dire, l’idea mi è sembrata abbastanza originale e in special modo il personaggio di Reven è molto particolare. Ha mille sfaccettature tutte da scoprire. Anche Meren mi ha convinta: è una ragazza molto forte e determinata che non si lascia abbattere facilmente. Gli altri personaggi invece sono molto marginali, anche Tabra e Eidolon compaiono solo alla fine. Vedremo che ruolo giocherà Cain, sperando di non cadere nel solito triangolo. Quello che non mi ha convinta è stato il ritmo: i capitoli sono molto brevi e quindi pensavo che sarebbe stato incalzante e mi sarei ritrovata a leggerne uno dopo l’altro, invece ho arrancato parecchio. Ci ho messo più di una settimana per poco più di 400 pagine. Qualcosa non è scattato. E non perché sia scritto male o perché sia poco interessante. L’ho trovato proprio lento. Forse perché è il primo libro di una trilogia e doveva introdurre tutto il nuovo mondo ma avrei voluto più azione. Forse nei libri successivi si scatenerà il finimondo, peccato che debbano essere ancora pubblicati. Rimandato. Einaudi, 2023 - Il romanzo sperimentale di Batuman è comparso nelle liste dei libri migliori dell'anno. Ci accorgiamo che ciò che stiamo leggendo non è solo una storia, ma un ricordo. Il ricordo dell'adolescenza. Un momento della vita in cui l'interiorità è indefinita, come lo siamo noi.
