Ok, let’s be honest. This wasn’t the super best time for me to get started on a series. I’ve been getting too distracted by Labor Day, anniversaries, car shopping, and the wacky weather to get as much posted as I would like, but hopefully by the end of this week we’ll finally be into the…
I am often asked about knits, and the infamous ‘Wavy Seam Syndrome’. Up until recently, my advice hasn’t been all that fantastic. Let’s see, there is sewing with a ball point needle. Sew using your serger (if you have one), or a zig zag stitch. If you must do a straight stitch, always sew on […]

RENO Top // CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS in German/English The RENO top is a simple, short-cut crochet top and goes perfectly with summer high-waisted trousers and skirts. It is crocheted in rows from top to bottom with double crochets, so the length can be adjusted individually if necessary. First the front part is crocheted. Then the back piece with the straps is crocheted directly to the front piece. Finally, the side seams are closed and the neck and armholes are bordered with single stitches. Techniques used: double crochet, single crochet stitches, multi-stitch increase, sewing together. All techniques used are explained in the instructions. / Language: German/ENGLISH / Difficulty level: Beginner / Sizes: XS (S) M (L) XL (XXL) Suitable for bust size: 71-76 (81-86) 91-97 (102-107) 112-117 (122-127) cm Crochet bust: 81 (86) 97 (107) 117 (127) cm Armhole: 19 (20) 21 (22) 24 (26) cm Total length: 43 (44) 45 (46) 48 (50) cm The RENO top looks particularly good when worn close to the body with around 0-2 cm positive ease or 2 cm negative ease. By Janet Carrillo "damn it Janet, let's crochet!" Ideas on how to use this appliques... *These would be great to apply to any project. *You can add them to beach towels, *turn them into a keychain or fridge magnet. *You can also make several and make a garland. *Attach a ribbon to make them into bookmarks. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS approx. size: 2.15”height x 1.6”length …but can vary based on yarn and hook size. MATERIALS *Crochet hook size: 3.5mm (E) *Worsted Weight Yarn: Red (5yds) & Black (3yds) *Felt: Black *Embroidery Floss or Thread: Black *Stitch Markers *Tapestry Needle *Hot Glue PATTERN NOTES Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches. Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds. There's no need to sl st and/or ch when going to the next round unless stated to do so. Always do the 1st stitch where you slip stitch from the previous round. The chain, in the beginning, does NOT count as one stitch unless stated otherwise. You slip stitch on the first sc, not on top of the chain 1. BODY with red or color of choice Rnd 1: 6hdc in magic ring (6) Rnd 2: 2hdc in each st around (12) Rnd 3: hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st around (18) Rnd 4: sl st in each st around (18) F/O, secure and weave in the ends. HEAD with black Row 1: 4sc in magic ring, ch1, turn (4) Row 2: sc in next st, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, ch1, turn (6) Row 3: sl st in each st across (6) F/O, secure and weave in the ends. ASSEMBLE I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing or gluing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best. (Most people like to use the yarn in the end from the finish pieces to sew them in place but I personally like to use matching thread). TIP...For anything that I’m going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on a white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out. HEAD…sew the head to the body. SPOTS FOR THE BODY…using black felt cut a long slim triangle. Glue it in the center of the body. Cut 6 circles for the spots; I like to use a hole puncher cause it makes perfect little circles. Go ahead and glue the circles where you like best. Using black embroidery floss or thread, weave through round 3 and 4 to make antennas. I use glue to harden the thread and it won’t move around. Let’s play murder! Crime solving at its most luxurious. This 100% silk jumper is decorated with my variation of the superb The Wallpaper Had It Coming Again design (by Morgen Dammerung), now with even more Moriarty skulls! A versatile, timeless design which can be dressed up or dressed down as per requirements. First, a warning: this is definitely not a beginner’s knit. The fronts and back are cast on as one piece and worked together in the round up until the armpits, with a purled line indicating a mock seam along each side (to help with shaping and pattern control). The body is shaped by decreases, increases and short rows. The sleeves are worked in the round and combined with the body; the yoke is then knitted in the round. The resulting garment is practically seamless. Wallpaper and skull motifs worked in stranded techniques. Additional warning: the silk yarn can be very temperamental and difficult to knit with – slippery and with very little give. Proceed with caution. Materials: 5 skeins of Filatura di Crosa Golden Line Luxury 4 ply (100% silk, 1 skein = 50g) in Silver 4 skeins of Filatura di Crosa Golden Line Luxury 4 ply (100% silk, 1 skein = 50g) in Black 3.00 mm needles - I used a circular 60 cm needle A set of 4 3.00 mm DPNs Stitch holders, safety pins, markers etc. Gauge: 23 x 36 sts to 10 x 10 cm on 3.00 mm needles (NB: I am a particularly loose knitter, so check your gauge carefully – you may have to go up a needle size or two). Size: Women’s M, which is to say my own measurements. Length 57 cm, sleeve length from neck 67 cm, from armpit 45 cm. Fits hips 94-6cm, waist 75 cm, chest 94-6 cm. This is a well-fitted garment that is close to the body. Size can be somewhat adjusted with increases/decreases in the body; if you want to change the size considerably, you’ll need to adjust it by a multiple of 24 sts in the yoke, to account for the pattern. The jumper is well-fitted, with narrow long sleeves and a fitted yoke – the silk yarn is not very stretchy, so check the measurements carefully.
