We have had several requests for the above "Letter Combination" chart. We alternate this chart with the below "Blends" chart every day. Students chant it as "ay, ey, ai See kids play, etc." They see these letter combinations in their reading and use them in their writing. These two charts are also kept in easy eye-sight for students to refer to as needed. Smaller charts are also put into their writing folders and reading bins earlier in the year to use as reference tools.

Runes are the principal writing system in Scandinavia. Runic inscriptions appeared first in Denmark in the first centuries AD. They were probably inspired by the Latin alphabet, but took on their own significance among Germanic peoples. Like the Latin alphabet is called "alphabet" due to the first letters being alpha (A) and beta (B), a runic alphabet is called a futhark because it derives from their first six letters of the alphabet, "f," "u," "th," "a," "r," and "k." There are several futharks

I hope you have recovered after Thanksgiving and are settling back in to your routine at school! My husband, Josh, and I had a wonderful visit to Indianapolis to spend time with his family. Since they live 500 miles away, our visits only happen a couple of times a year, but we had no trouble packing in a lot! We saw our youngest nephew play basketball and then Josh's brother coached a high school game later that same night. Trips to three, yes - three, different malls and a stop to Lakeshore Learning! Our closest Lakeshore store is in Washington, DC, which is still several hours away, so I took advantage that we were nearby and got everything on my list (and a few extras!). The trip went too quickly and we look forward to going back this summer. Looking at the calendar before Thanksgiving, we realized that we have four long weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. We are trying to plan as many fun things as we can, while still teaching everything that we need to! This week we are working on writing friendly letters. We have talked about the parts of a letter and looked at our message everyday. The children have picked up very quickly on these terms! Today we wrote a letter to our principal. I wanted them to think about 2 questions they want to ask and 2 things to tell her. My favorite question to ask was "How old are you?" This came from my birthday boy! I had to explain that it is not polite to ask an adult - especially a lady - how old she is! We all signed the letter we finished and took it up to the office. Unfortunately, the principal was in a meeting and we couldn't give it to her in person. She found me after school and is writing a letter back to them! The kiddos will see it in the morning! here's our letter to Mrs. Moore Here's my mini-packet for letters. Enjoy! Click HERE to download. Happy writing to Santa!

How do you cultivate a love for reading in your home? How do you encourage your children to enjoy good stories? What are some good books for them to start
Would you like to decorate your classroom with fun, hand-drawn anchor charts/posters? Do you simply not have the time to get them done? Well, you have come to the perfect place! I love making these engaging and appealing anchor charts. I also can draw/create any other topic you would like, just contact me directly and ask! My students absolutely love these posters and references them every day. Many of them are visual learners, so the colorful images really help them connect and remember what they have learned. This particular anchor chart is for readers/writers practicing the "bonus letter" or "floss rule". My students absolutely loved using the floss rule to help them build words and read these in passages. They loved using the anchor chart as a visual reference and had fun with the pictures/colors. **These will be copies unless asked otherwise for a custom poster. They are not laminated, and are printed on normal, anchor chart paper. I ship these out ASAP after being ordered, but please keep in mind once shipped, it is outside of my control. Therefore, if shipping does not meet your expectations, I highly encourage you to please reach out to me first, and we have always been able to work something out to make up for anything that may have occurred after I have sent your package, thanks so much!! Hope you love it :)
Letter reversals are very common for little learners! We have been working on visual discrimination when reading lowercase letter b and letter d. Once I introduced my kindergartener to the “b is for belly and d is for diaper” picture it has stuck! In fact, when we were reading our CVC words today, he smirked […]
