Fanny Brice was an early 20th century stage talent immortalized by Barbra Streisand as "Funny Girl." But have you heard the original? We've got the real Fania Borach (1891-1951), the Ziegfeld Follies comic, singer and actress. Hear her crazy comedy as radio's Baby Snooks. Or enjoy her signature songs "Second Hand Rose" and "My Man." Either album is a gem, well-cleaned to extract the best sound from these century-old recordings. Brice's "Baby Snooks" radio shows are a bizarre delight -- wild and witty creations in which she's a smart tot forever outsmarting her hapless father (played by Hanley Stafford). The "Real Funny Girl" compilation album of old 78rpm recordings doesn't seem to have been released on CD. So grab this vinyl copy reissued after Streisand's '60s "Funny Girl" triumphs on stage and screen. The Music That Makes Me Dance Don't Rain On My Parade (Reprise) ABOUT THE RECORD "Funny Girl (Original Broadway Cast)," by Barbra Streisand, "Funny Girl," is the original Broadway cast recording of the musical "Funny Girl," loosely based on the life of Fanny Brice. The show opened on March 26, 1964 at the Winter Garden Theater, starring Barbra Streisand. It is considered a Streisand album since she performed 12 out of its 17 tracks. It was recorded in a one-day session, quickly after its Broadway debut, and released one week later by Capitol Records, marking the first time a Streisand album was not released through Columbia. At the time, Streisand was already a successful singer, winner of the 1963 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance and with her 3 first solo albums charting in the top 10 of Billboard 200. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in June 1964 and went to win its composers the Grammy for Best Score From an Original Cast Show Album, beating "Hello, Dolly!."
