Fortnite is all the rage right now and Jezrael was very specific about all the elements he wanted for his Fortnite Party!
I had a great time planning and hosting Owen's jungle theme first birthday! Seriously, I love to do this party stuff... especially the dessert table!!! I made this bunting banner with scrapbook paper and then displayed in on a large picture that I wrapped with a neutral gift wrap. Gahhh, I couldn't wait any longer to show you this super cute snake! I just sliced sub sandwhiches into small appetizer size pieces and laid out the pices with a litte curve to them on the food table to look like a snake. I used toothpics to put on the olive eyes and cut a red pepper to look like a tongue. So easy and so cute! Here's an over-view of the food. Main table is snacks and drinks and the buffet to the left is desserts I hung some streemers from the ceiling and cut a few jungle leaves from scrapbook paper to jungle the place up a bit :) A closer look at the food table. Mostly veggies and fruit so guests were able to justify splurges at the dessert table - haha! I attached zebra scrapbook stickers to one of my punch jars and simply poured in green hawaiin punch and pepple ice (I buy pebble ice at Sonics) for this fun colored "jungle juice" For the water bottles I removed the labels and then wrapped the bottle in zebra packing tape. This was also really simple to do and I love the impact it makes! Finally a shot of the desserts!!! The cake pops were pretty darn cute! At least it was pretty easy to tell what they were supposed to be :) tigers lions and monkeys! I have the bakerella cake pop book and used that for my directions with just a few tweeks. Of course you can't have a party without cupcakes (at least not in this household!) The cupcakes were vanilla or chocolate with a marshmallow creme filling and green-vanilla buttercream - YUM! The cupcake toppers were actually dollar store stickers that I stuck on scrapbooking paper and cut around. I hot glued the cut outs to toothpics to finish them up. Animal crackers were a must for this jungle party! THE CAKE: This adorable monkey cake is a very yummy banana cake with chocolate buttercream. I found the directions for decorating it here and just made a few changes... for instance I made mine a double layer... cause doesn't that sound soooo much better than just one layer of delicious banana cakes?? I found the banana cake recipe here and I would highly recommend trying it out for yourself! Owen also had a little chocolate smash cake to enjoy. He started out nice and slow but then mommy got involved and things went crazy! must eat more cake A very happy sugar-high birthday boy: love him! Just can't believe how fast a year has gone by, I remember when this little dude was born as if it were just a few weeks ago... sniff sniff. Yay for happy memories!
I loved the cake we got for Leon’s 1st bday party last year, it was professionally made and tasted delicious but it costed me a fortune! So this year I took the risk and made it all myself.. …

My Millie girl just turned 7! (Can you believe that?!) And it's a good thing for birthdays or I might never get around to updating my blog! Shortly after her rock star party last year, Millie became intrigued by ancient Egypt and declared that her next party would revolve around that theme. Years ago, luckily for me, I had clipped and saved a Child Magazine article, "Fit for a Pharaoh" party of the month. It gave me lots of ideas and I came up with a few of my own. For the invitation we set out to find some papyrus-looking paper and raffia but came away with this golden textured paper and hieroglyphic-adorned ribbon. Then I downloaded a hieroglyphic-inspired font, rolled up the invites like a scroll and voila! For Millie, the most important aspect of the whole party was decorations! Gold decor is harder to come across than you might imagine, but I did my best. Guests arrived to a play list including "Walk Like an Egyptian", "King Tut", and the theme songs from Aladdin, and Prince of Egypt. Then we put the girls to work making Egyptian masks. Next we gave each girl a wooden box that had been spray painted gold (thanks Mark!), and some jewels and glue. The boxes then became useful as they filled them with buried treasure . . . or ancient artifacts from an archaeological dig in a sandbox. Before the party I buried rubber snakes and frogs along with jewelry and typed up a list of what they needed to find. Then they used paint brushes to carefully search for treasures in the sand. And no Egyptian party would be complete without wrapping a mummy! After all that activity we took a break for a snack of hummus and cucumbers. They liked the cucumbers but the hummus? . . . Not so much. Then we opened gifts, Millie got so many nice things! Then everyone was ready for cake and ice cream! Millie had requested a honey cake, so Mark did his best and made this carrot-honey cake, with cream cheese, butter and honey frosting. As far as healthy-ish cakes go, it was divine! Then we gave each girl a box of pyramid-shaped Toblerone chocolates and an encrypted hieroglyphic thank-you message to decode at home. All my idea . . . pretty proud of myself. :) After the party, Millie's primary teachers stopped by with a card and an adorable hand-made headband. And her grandma Barbara came by with a beautiful framed photo of her mother whose name, Maurine, Millie shares as a middle name; and a monogram necklace bearing the letter "M". After all that partying I was too exhausted to think about dinner so we headed out on the town. Couldn't think of anywhere that serves Egyptian fare, so we went with the next best thing, Indian food! Millie and I were both so pleased with how everything turned out! I hope she remembers it for the rest of her life. Happy Birthday Millie!

Last September my cousin, Josh, turned 9, and he is a huge fan of The Hobbit [book, and movies] and is nearly completed his first read through The Lord Of the Rings. He wanted to have a Hobbit/LOTR themed party, and that is just what we did! Grace [Josh's big sister] made these incredibly cute invitations to look like Bilbo's door, at Bagend! [back of the invite] We used reclaimed white newsprint paper [like the kind used as packing material] and made a tree shape in a corner to be The White Tree of Gondor. [This was an idea from Pinterest, I believe, but it was a jungle tree, or some other theme, with brown and green paper] The little girl wanted her picture by the White Tree... Such tourists! [Couldn't NOT share these smiles!] --> The Birthday Boy dressed up like Bilbo Baggins! Here he is eating second breakfast [an apple] standing outside of Bagend. [Grace set up a dome tent and covered it with a sheet, then drew the door out of more packing paper, and added greenery around] Here is Bilbo in Shelob's Layer! Look out behind you!!! They made a large banner [just like in the movie] to wish a happy birthday to Josh. The Black Arrow. This was a game, I think Grace thought up. She drew the picture of Smaug, including his missing scale, and taped it to a cardboard box. Then they had a couple bows and arrows and everyone got a chance to try and slay the dragon! This was a LOT of fun!! Another fun game [and more appropriate for the younger hobbits in attendance] was Mount Doom Ring Toss! The target was a picture of the top of the Mount Doom volcano, and each contestant got to toss The Ring into the burning depths! [they were actually small washers] :^) A welcome for the front door of the house. The Mark Gandalf leaves on Bilbo's door so the Dwarves know they are at the right house when they arrive to seek Bilbo's services as a burglar. There were fun goodie bags/party favors for everyone to take home! Paper and yarn bunting completed the look on the porch. [get a printable template here!] This is Part 1 of at least 3... Stay tuned!! Blessings - Kerry

I'm back on here after a nearly two year blog hiatus! It's fun when you have special things to write about! My nearly 11 year old daughter was having trouble deciding what theme to use for her birthday party. I listed off and asked questions about her interests when finally we came to books! We had been listening to the Focus on the Family Radio Theater Chronicles of Narnia audiobooks. A Narnia party it would be! We looked at pinterest and found some great inspiration! See At the Picket Fence and Toni Spilsbury. I also found a lion graphic to use with my Silhouette cutting machine. I used it to make the sign on our front door, along with hand copying the Narnia font. We used the cut out lions on a banner too. We found gold plates, utensils and paper goods, so we set places for each kid along with stick on jewels for their cups. My daughter had hoped to find some goblets as seen on At the Picket Fence. We spray painted some plastic lions from the dollar store gold to be our Aslans. We attempted to make a wardrobe entrance like Toni Spilsbury had for the entrance into our living room. I used spray paint and the stencil that was made from the lion cut outs. Kind of shabby, but the effect was great for the kids! We cut right up the middle of the doors on the sheet, and you could walk through. We have to get creative at times with food and ideas being that we're not in the States. Our menu included: Father Christmas Ham Beaver Dam Pudding (Caramel) Apples of Youth & (Kettle Corn) Forever Winter Snow Acorns (Dates), Nectarines and Cair Paravel Cupcakes Mrs. Beaver's Hot Chocolate While the kids were finishing their snacks, we passed out the treasure boxes to paint. We got the idea from Lisa Leonard Designs blog. We found small wooden ones at our dollar store. A couple of the boys decided to use their stick-on jewels in other spots while they painted their treasure boxes! Next, we had "Susan's Archery Practice" in our neighbors' backyard (they already had a target spot). All the kids seemed to enjoy giving it a shot! This is the birthday girl's little sister! I did not get any great pictures of our Scavenger Hunt but wanted to tell you about it! We took copied colored illustrations from the books, cut them into puzzle pieces and laminated them. Then we hid them all over our street and outdoor spaces with Narnia-ized clues as you can see below for one of the teams. For example, number seven was in an olive tree. Team Dawn Treader 1. The Clawed Vine Portal 2. The Bashful Blush Blossoms 3. The Pear Postal 4. The Elves' Correspondence 5. The Royal Footrest 6. The Electric Chest Alley 7. The Oil Fruit Branches 8. The Silver Cauldron Our last activity was freeing the animals from their "frozen" state in a balloon, in the same vein as the White Witch had turned so many of the creatures into statues in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We had put little plastic animals in the balloons to free with darts. . One more shot of our birthday girl and her sister! She was really pleased with the party!
