Ideas in Action: Activities for Alternative Assessment Why is it that some students perform incredibly well in a grammar test, but cannot apply this knowledge in a conversation? How effective is formal language testing in proving how well students can actually apply language to life? In addition to exploring the theoretical background and looking at key…
I just finished this little job for Oxford University Press, the English Language Teaching Department. They've been good clients of mine since I first started out. I quite enjoy drawing domestic everyday scenes, but the jobs are often quite tough where they ask for many different elements in the same picture.
I am in the middle of facilitating a social skills group and when looking for resources I can across some really good books that I have incorporated into the curriculum. Most of the book can be fou…

Welcome to another installment in this apparent ongoing series I've just sort of adopted on the art of composing with precise restrictions. Currently this is the third article on this topic so if you haven't read the previous handicap articles yet you may find them of interest.
Would you like to decorate your classroom with fun, hand-drawn anchor charts/posters? Do you simply not have the time to get them done? Well, you have come to the perfect place! I love making these engaging and appealing anchor charts. I also can draw/create any other topic you would like, just contact me directly and ask! My students absolutely love these posters and references them every day. Many of them are visual learners, so the colorful images really help them connect and remember what they have learned. This particular anchor chart is for readers/writers practicing the "bonus letter" or "floss rule". My students absolutely loved using the floss rule to help them build words and read these in passages. They loved using the anchor chart as a visual reference and had fun with the pictures/colors. **These will be copies unless asked otherwise for a custom poster. They are not laminated, and are printed on normal, anchor chart paper. I ship these out ASAP after being ordered, but please keep in mind once shipped, it is outside of my control. Therefore, if shipping does not meet your expectations, I highly encourage you to please reach out to me first, and we have always been able to work something out to make up for anything that may have occurred after I have sent your package, thanks so much!! Hope you love it :)

Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni is the focus of this literacy 60+page unit developed for students with autism and other special learning needs. This unit has various activities to accompany Leo Lionni’s book, Inch by Inch. The materials are designed to allow students with multiple levels of learning to access and engage in lessons learned through reading Inch by Inch. There are many opportunities for students to engage in repeated information on the travels of this inchworm as he measures birds he meets along his travels. This repetition encourages deeper engagement of the book. Finally, many of the Inch by Inch activities and assessment includes more than one version, suggestions for differentiation, and options for presentation. There is also a 17-page social story addressing bullying and what to do if someone is bullying you which goes perfectly with this story and is great for students with autism and special learning needs. ***This unit now includes digital versions of the activities in this unit. It has 26 google slides (including a differentiated set) and a video of the book read aloud and the social story. ***See Preview for a detailed look at this unit.*** ***************************************************************************** Inch by Inch Unit Includes: 20 symbol storyboard to accompany the book, Inch by Inch* Inchworm measures birds activity (includes digital version) Circle map reviewing elements of Inch by Inch * (includes digital version) Inchworm measuring worksheets * (includes digital version) Inch by Inch Comprehension activity * (includes digital version) Social story on Bullying (includes movie) Venn diagram comparing friends and bullies * (includes digital version) * : color and BW versions provided ***************************************************************************** Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, we can ask students questions that will push them to think more deeply than before. ♥As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchases on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!! ♥I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future. ★★★Please consider checking out my other Literacy units by clicking on the Literacy Unit tab to the left in my store.
