A LEAF STEM Petiola is a delicate lace shawl with leaves working their way out from the centre to the sides. It has a slightly unusual shape, but once you wrap it around your shoulders you realise it embraces and cocoons you like a warm hug. The shawl is knit back and forth, starting from the top centre with three large leaves. It then works its way out into two full leaf stems in the middle and two half-stems at the upper edge. This in the end creates its slightly square-ish shape. After the last row of knitting, the shawl is bound off with a simple crochet edge, which gives it an extra airy feeling. Petiola is made for 2-ply wool yarn from the Swedish company Ullcentrum, but it is easy to adapt and works well with any sport-weight yarn. Ullcentrum was established in 1998 and produces yarn and other wool products from only Swedish wool, from breeds such as finewool and Gotland sheep. The yarn is available in both natural and dyed colors and in 1-, 2- and 3-ply. To order yarn, visit Ullcentrum.com.

Almond Comfit features an unusual construction that has more in common with many shawl patterns than hats. Beginning at the centre of the leaf motif at the front, and increasing within this pattern from just a few stitches to the full width from side edge to edge, the hat is worked from front to back. Reverse stockinette I-cord gives a neat, sturdy edge. Only one row of I-cord is worked for every 2 rows of the hat so it pulls in the edge without the need for any more complex shaping such as short rows. Closely worked decreases at the back create a slightly slouchy, gathered effect; the hat is completed by grafting together the few remaining stitches.
This hand-carved Elizabethan chair has been elaborately decorated. The wooden frame features a carved acanthus leaf motif both on the scrolled arms, legs and cross supports. The apron features a wonderful pierced wood carving replete with scrolls and curls. The beautiful needlepoint upholstery is a continuation of the scroll motif and is secured with an oversized nailhead trim. During the Elizabethan era, the furniture in a person's home was an important symbol of his status. Elizabethan chairs were elaborately designed and were mainly seen only in the homes of those who were very wealthy. These chairs were not built so much with comfort in mind, but instead to show the unique workmanship of those who created them.

"My latest design incorporating the motif as the piece is made. These fingerless gloves are perfect for the cooler season. Like my other half gloves, the sizing of the gloves is done by changing the size of the needles. It makes for a more consistent size and placement of the leaf motif on the back of the glove. Most of the stitches are easy to do, but for those stitches or techniques that may cause confusion, there are QR codes you can scan with your phone or tablet so you can watch the quick how to video. The videos are embedded into the free to read, ad supported version on the website."
Description This lightweight crescent scarf or shawl in three sizes (Petite/Medium/Tall), features a richly embossed leaf motif that circles the hem in dramatic scallops. The motif creates a shadow effect which can be further enhanced by using a yarn with some sheen or luster fiber content. Despite its size and intricate appearance, the stitch pattern is not at all tricky to work, with wrong side rows in knit and purl and lends itself nicely to adding beaded accents if desired. The garter stitch body is shaped with short rows to create an elegant sweeping curve, easy to wear and keep in place. Suggested Yarns: Yak + Silk Lace , Kent Lace , Modern Deco Lace , Better Breakfast Fingering , Stone Soup Fingering , Shetlandia Fingering , Jacob Fingering , Chebris Lace , or any lace yarn with approximately 160 to 200 yards per ounce Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and drape. Finished Size: 80(100, 120) inches around hem edge and 16(21, 25) inches long at center back Yarn Requirements: 575(825, 1175) yards Gauge: 24 sts and 60 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch on smaller needles (unblocked) Needles: size 2.5US (3.0 mm) for body or size to obtain correct gauge size 4US (3.5 mm) for hem, or .5 mm larger than body needle
