Printable Young Women's Come Follow Me Lesson Planning Guide Packet LDS Youth 2024 YW This is a guide to help young women prepare and teach their own Come Follow Me Lessons. There is a detailed 5 step process for the girls to follow. There are fill in the blank worksheets and pages for notes. This plan essentially holds the girl's hand so they know how to plan, prepare, and teach Come Follow Me Lessons. If you want your girls to become comfortable with teaching lessons, you have to teach them how to teach. This guide can help you teach them. This guide is not specific to one Come Follow Me Week. Instead, it can be used over and over again for all of the Come Follow Me Lessons. Save the PDF and print out the pages you want to use as many times as you would like. The method of teaching is based on the 'Teaching in the Savior's Way Guide', as well as some Elementary Ed. tips and tricks. It's been tested and proved by many young women and young women leaders. This digital guide can be shared with your whole young women's class, and all the leaders in your ward, and you can even send it to your mom. My request is that you don't post it to your whole ward or stake, and that you don't put it up on the internet Coming soon is a printed packet that you can purchase for your entire group of girls. It comes with the printed pages, a folder, a treat, magnets, quote & question paper mounts, a pen, & permanent marker. It's all packaged up and ready to give to your girls. WHAT DOES JOSEPH SMITH'S EXAMPLE TEACH ME ABOUT LEARNING THE GOSPEL? Say to the class: I'll bet everyone in class knows about the First Vision--right? Let's see how much you know and whether you can learn a little bit more today. I'm going to ask some questions and we'll see if you know or can find the answers. Q: If I wanted to read about Joseph Smith's First Vision, where would I look? A: Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith--History Q: Joseph Smith decided to pray after reading what scripture? A: James 1:5. (Read it together in verse 11.) Look at verse 12: "Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart." Q: What power can give this kind of feeling when you are reading the scriptures? A: The Holy Ghost. (You may want to ask the class if they have ever had a scripture reinforced to them by the Holy Ghost in this manner, or share an incident when you experienced that.) Q: What was the question Joseph was asking? A: Which church to join. (Verse 18) Q: How important was this question to Joseph Smith? A: We can tell it was of utmost importance to him because of the effort he put into thinking about it. Verse 8: "...serious reflection..," "...my feelings were deep...," "I attended [churches] as often as occasion would permit...," "in process of time...." Verse 10: "I often said to myself..." Verse 11: "...laboring under the extreme difficulties..." Verse 12: "I reflected on it again and again." Verse 13: "... at length I came to the determination to ask of God." This is an important thing to understand: Joseph Smith didn't just decide in one afternoon to ask God something he really wondered about. He had thought, and thought, and though about it. He really, really wanted to know. He had studied the scriptures and attended meetings to find the answer, and still he couldn't figure it out. But he did find out that God would answer him if he prayed. He intended to change his life to match the answer he got. Q: What year was it? A: 1820 (verse 14) Q: Had Joseph ever prayed out loud before? A: No (verse 14) Q: Why not, and in a related question, why do you think he went out into the woods to pray, instead of praying in his bedroom? A: He had eight brothers and sisters and two parents and they all lived together in a tiny cabin. There was no private place indoors. Q: Before Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and surrounded him with light, he was surrounded by something else. What was it? A: Darkness, the power of the devil. (verses 15-16) Just as the Holy Ghost wants to help us find truth when we are seeking it, the devil wants us to be confused and afraid. If something very wonderful is about to happen, the devil always wants to hurry and get in the way. This is an important thing to remember. If you felt the Holy Ghost tell you to do something, and you know it is a good thing to do, and then everything starts going wrong, remember it may be the devil trying to stop you. If you know it was the right thing to do, don't let the devil frighten you away from it; just keep going and Heavenly Father will help you. Q: How many things can we learn about the Godhead from Joseph Smith's experience with the First Vision? A: (Read aloud the last part of verse 16 and all of verse 17, and write the class members' answers on the board. Some possible answers are listed below, but your class may have additional ones.) Satan is powerful. God is more powerful than Satan. Satan does not want good things to happen. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are more bright and glorious than we can imagine. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are two separate people. Jesus Christ is Heavenly Father's Son. Heavenly Father loves Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost testifies to us when we read the scriptures. Heavenly Father will answer our prayers if we pray sincerely. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have the same bodily form that we do. Jesus Christ speaks for Heavenly Father. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a nice little worksheet I found on Pinterest about the Apostacy and Restoration. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget all the great old Gospel Doctrine videos. Some I'm sure are on line. We have the old VHS at our house, so that's what I'll be using. I really like the 15-minute episode "A Search for the Truth" about Wilford Woodruff, found on "Teachings from the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History. Your church media center probably has it. "Joseph Smith and the Restoration" from the same video is also wonderful. It is 16 minutes long. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a really fun Object Lesson on the Apostacy using paper cups I found on Pinterest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- And look what else I found online? My own mneumonic device and drawings on dispensations, reworked onto an informative pdf handout.
Standing firm in the faith of Christ will not mean life is free of conflict or trial, but it does mean having the strength to continue on in the face of that conflict, to know which side you are on, and that there is a loving Heavenly Father that will always lead us in the direction we need to go.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE GRATEFUL? In conjunction with the talks referenced in the lesson, you can use my lesson on gratitude as a "saving principle", which I have stored online here. BECOMING MORE CHRISTLIKE For a general lesson on becoming more Christlike, you can focus on the Christlike Attributes found in the Preach My Gospel missionary handbook, available to download as a .pdf towards the end of the chapter at this link. First, overview the 9 attributes mentioned, and their meanings, using the Bible Dictionary definition for Faith as a starter. You can use one of the activities below (probably both would not fit in one lesson period), and then have the students check off the inventory on the list and challenge them to work on one Christlike attribute that week. (If you do the treasure hunt activity, suggest that they eat one chocolate at the end of each day for their reward for working on their attribute--either the same attribute all week, or a different attribute each day.) Spoons Card Game My daughter made a card game for her class to play "Spoons." For this game, you need a small class. Make 36 cards (4 for each of the attributes). On one card, write the attribute. One a second card, write the definition. On a third card, write a scripture about that attribute. One a fourth card, write a quote from a recent general conference about that attribute. Make sure the actual word is in the scripture and general conference quote so it can quickly be recognized. The instructions for playing the game can be found all over the Internet--for example, at this link. Be careful! It can get wild and fun! But when we're having fun, we're paying attention, right? Treasure Hunt For my class, we are going to learn about an example of a Christlike person, Jesse Knight, whom the famous non-Mormon historian of Mormon History (if you can follow that) said was one of the greatest examples of Mormonism. Follow this link to his story. Give a card with the title of one Christ-like attribute to each student and ask them to raise their card when they hear that attribute used in Jesse's story. (They are not obvious, so if they don't get it, just talk about it together at the end of the story.) Then we are going to have a WALKING (one foot must always be on the ground, and only whispering is allowed) treasure hunt through the church-house, since Jesse was a great treasure-hunter, with scriptures as clues hidden at the drinking fountain, in hymn books, in the tithing box, behind the picture of Christ, in the kitchen sink, in the coat closet, with the librarian, etc. and the final treasure will be in the trunk of my car: A box full of miniature paper treasure boxes (print them on white cardstock) filled with silver-wrapped Hershey's Kisses and Hershey's Treasures chocolates. Here are the clues I used. Each clue but the first has the location where it should be hidden printed above the scripture. I am having my husband hide the clues after class starts so no one will see them ahead of time or accidentally remove them. Make sure you park your car where the kids don't have to run across a parking lot to reach it. Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (New Testament | John 4:13 - 14) Drinking Fountain Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. (Old Testament | Malachi 3:10) Tithing Box For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 25:12) Hymnbook And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them. And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying: Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 11:8 - 10) Picture of Christ with the Nephites (by High Council room) For the Lord had not hitherto suffered that we should make much fire, as we journeyed in the wilderness; for he said: I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not; (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 17:12) Kitchen Stove And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led. (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 17:13) Lamp in the foyer Seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:118) Librarian But I say unto you, that ye shall not resist evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also; And if any man will sue thee at the law and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also; (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 12:39 - 40) Coat Closet And let all things be done in cleanliness before me. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 42:41) Janitorial Closet Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. (Hint: Sister Jensen’s modern-day wagon) (Old Testament | Genesis 45:19) HOW CAN I INVITE OTHERS TO BECOME MORE LIKE THE SAVIOR? and HOW CAN I USE THE SCRIPTURES TO HELP OTHERS BECOME MORE CHRISTLIKE? One of the great characteristics of the Savior, and which is particularly difficult to learn in our instant-gratification world, is patience. It may be appropriate to focus an entire lesson on this attribute of Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-6 tells us that one of the godly attributes we should cultivate is patience James 1:3-4, the verses right before the one that initiated the Restoration, tell us that patience is essential for perfection, and we know that perfection is a commandment. An excerpt from President Uchtdorf's conference talk on the famous marshmallow experiment can be found in the video "Continue in Patience" on MormonChannel.org at this link. (All of the Mormon Channel videos are also available on YouTube, if that works better for you.) This talk teaches us that success in this life is available to those who exercise patience. This is a great reason to learn patience. Patience is also necessary for exaltation. Three kinds of patience, in particular, are necessary for the exercise of faith and the journey to perfection. You can use a video for each of these three to instigate conversation about the development of this attribute. 1) Waiting upon the Lord and trusting in His plan for our life. Read Romans 5:1-3 and 8:28. Not one of the students in your class is going to live the life he anticipates. Everyone will have surprises, trials, detours. Some will be initiated by the Lord. Some will be allowed by the Lord. Enduring them well will build a godly character. A great example of this can be found in Stephanie Nielsen, who endured burns on most of her body in an airplane accident. Her testimony is shared on "My New Life," MormonChannel at this link. This one is 8 minutes long, so you may want to just pick out a little 2-minute clip in the middle. Elder Holland shared her story in his October 2013 (yes, today!) General Conference talk, and you may prefer to share an excerpt from his talk. 2) Patience in developing our gifts. Read Hebrews 6:12 and D&C 67:13 (last half). Kaha'o, a blind LDS teenage pianist shares his story on "An Extraordinary Gift" at this link. Before sharing the story, ask each class member to be thinking about gifts he has to contribute to society and the Kingdom of God. After the story, ask the class members to share what they were thinking of. 3) Patience with differences in others. Read 2 Timothy 2:24. "The Civility Experiment" is a very fun little clip about how a woman who thought she was kind to all discovered hypocrisy in herself. It is available at this link. There is also a beautiful story about the spiritual rescue of a homeless man in the September 2013 Ensign, "Rescued by the Gospel". To finish this lesson, give each student a little handout with the scriptures on it stapled to a snack-size Ziploc bag with two large marshmallows in it, asking the students to not eat the marshmallows, but to put it somewhere where they can be reminded that they need to learn patience. (If it is Fast Sunday, this will work even better!) HOW DID THE SAVIOR COMPARE GOSPEL TRUTHS TO FAMILIAR OBJECTS AND EXPERIENCES? A blog for sharing LDS "Come Follow Me" youth yesson Ideas
All Printouts and Videos are HERE (Things to get in advance: For the Strength of Youth Pamphlets) 1. Introduction: I displayed a picture of the Salt Lake Temple on the table before class. Have the youth take turns reading the introduction in the For Strength of Youth. My church library only had 3 copies, so I had to ask around to get enough for my class. You could always have the youth share pamplets or you could print out the front cover and the intro. Ask the youth, "Why do you think that they chose a temple for the front cover?" 2. Learn Together Watch the "Temples" video Ask the youth what the temple means to them, whether it is doing baptisms for the dead, attending temple open houses, or visiting temple grounds. Temple Statistics When President Monson was called as an Apostle in 1963, there were 12 operating temples in the word. As of today, there are 156 operating temples. When all of the announced temples are dedicated there will be 182 temples. Wow! With the Cedar City and Saratoga Springs temple, there will be 18 temples in Utah alone. List of Temples by Year I found this awesome table of all of the temples sorted by year of dedication. I had to add my own page to update it to current. Make sure to print out part 1 and part 2. How many temples were there when you were born? How many temples were there when Mom and Dad or Grandpa and Grandma were born? Is there anything that sticks out to you? (I thought it was interesting how there were times when there was no temple or how there was a lot dedicated in 2000.) I told a story about my great grandparents who were married in North Carolina in 1934. They drove all the way to Salt Lake to be sealed in 1935. There were only 7 temples in the world. 3. Likening the Scriptures Elder Russell M. Nelson said, "As temples are prepared for the people, the people need to prepare themselves for the temple." Read Psalms 24:3-4 What does this teach us about preparing to receive temple ordinances? Write a list on the board of other ways we can prepare to receive temples ordinances. 4. Teach Others Watch the first 3 minutes of Elder Quentin L. Cook's talk "Shipshape and Bristol Fashion: Be Temple Worthy—in Good Times and Bad Times" Divide the class up into 4 groups. Have three of the groups study one of the principles listed in his talk. Have the last group study the article "Making the Temple a Part of Your Life". Have each group teach the class about their findings. 5. Making it Personal Let the youth write down three goals that they can work on to help them prepare for temple ordinances. 6. Conclusion Watch the "Always in our Sights" video I shared the special feelings I had when I was able to gather with my family in the Celestial Room for the first time and bore my testimony that it really is worth it. Additional Resources: I also printed off a copy of the "Commonly Asked Questions" about the temple from the Liahona. I thought it had some great explanations, just in case the kids asked questions.
