Ideas to help you deal with the aftermath of the LDS Primary Program!
2018 LDS Primary Sacrament Meeting Program Outline, Cover, Invites, Tips and More... It is that time of year again! The time when the primary presidency frantically puts together a program, the chorister practices the sames songs over and over with the kids, and everyone wonders how it will ever be pulled off. I have a little SECRET! When those primary kids get up there in front of their parents and bear their testimonies through music and song, it will be pulled off! The Spirit will be felt :) A couple years back, I shared some tips for this crazy, exciting time of year! I share a condensed version here, but to see the full description click this link: 2015 Primary Sacrament Meeting Program Ideas, free printable program cover: I Know My Savior Lives Tips and Tricks to Pulling off a Primary Sacrament Meeting Program: Tip 1: The key thing to remember is that it is the "Primary Children's" program, not the Primary Presidency's program. Rather it is an opportunity for the primary children to share what they have learned throughout the year including their testimonies in both word and song. Tip 2: Let the children participate in helping to write their own parts. Tip 3: Coordinate with the Primary Chorister when writing the program. MUSIC brings the Spirit into the program!! Work together in preparing the primary children for the program. Tip 4: More About Music: When preparing make it fun! Tip 5: Hand the parts to the parents and FOLLOW-up! Tip 6: Make a seating chart, print it out for all adult leaders. Tip 7: Organization and Flow!! I have found inviting the primary teachers to lead their class up and participate by reading a scripture, helps in the flow of the program. Tip 8: Practice, but don't over practice. Sample (1st week show children where they will sit, run through the flow of the program. Where they will walk to get to the pulpit and sitting back down. Run through the songs. 2nd and 3rd week- Run through the whole program. I don't think any more practices are needed then those 3) Tip 9: Do not get discouraged! It is my experience that even if the practices go horribly, the primary program will be amazing! There is just something about those little kiddos sharing their testimonies in song and word that brings the spirit to the meeting! Bonus Tips: Make a copy of the program for each adult leader. This will help them to know when to help kids go up. It is also important for the teachers to know the songs too!! Their example to the kids is so important, they can help get the kids singing. Here are some additional helps for the program: Sacrament Meeting Program Cover: Free Colored Download Free Black and White Download Children's Portrait Program Cover (Sometimes Presidencies like the primary children to color and personalize the programs. Here is an option where the primary children could color a picture of themselves or a way that they know that they are a child of God.) Primary Sacrament Meeting Program Invitation If you want to send out an invite for your Primary Program, here is an editable download. Click the download button and download the printable to your computer and then you can open it up in photo editing software like Paint.net or PicMonkey and input your Ward's name, date, place and time. This would especially be fun to give non-member friends and also grandmas and grandpas you'd like to come. 4 x 6 size so can easily be printed at your favorite photo center. Ideas of what to list inside of the program: We liked to list each topic, scripture, kids in order of participation as well as the songs. All in order. Sacrament Meeting Outline Free Download: To download the full Primary Program Outline, please click the link below: (Note: The file is view only, to make changes you will need to make a copy (you can highlight the whole document and copy it) and insert it into a new Google document. This is a very SIMPLE process for creating a primary program that will require almost NO WORK when next fall rolls around and it’s program time! Primary Sacrament Meeting Program...successfully complete! Our Primary Children did such a spectacular job with their parts, and especially the singing for the program. We thought they deserved something fun to celebrate their hard work. Because...ALL EYES WERE INDEED ON THEM! Found this cute monster tag at Bloom Designs and tweaked it just a bit. If you would like to print your own, just right click and save this picture and then print! Added the googly eyes. Using toothpicks made it much easier to adhere the eyes with glue. Awesome, fun tags! Filled a fun treat bag with favorite goodies. 100 bags with tags, somewhat quick and easy. The googly eyes were the most fun to assemble, but took a bit of time. We have the greatest children in our Primary. We're glad ALL EYES WERE ON YOU!

A blog with ideas to aid us on our life's journey to perfecting ourselves and our families. Crafts, Printable Pages, LDS lesson helps and more.
** UPDATE 10/14- It's been brought to my attention that possibly using the term "program" instead of "presentation" can cause contention and that there are some who want me to quote "be aware that some of us want to us terminology that reflects that." I'm assuming the 2nd us is a typo for use. I'd like to apologize if I offended anyone. If you read through this article and find the word "program" offensive, please... just substitute. I'm in no way suggesting that the primary sacrament meeting presentation is an entertainment event.** Hello beautiful friends. I can't believe it's been 6 years of doing this blog. Time flies when you're having fun!! I wanted to thank you for reading. I'm just a random weirdo, but the fact that this blog has received over 3 million hits is impressive. It goes to show you that the Lord works in mysterious ways!! And it's that time of year again.... I don't know why, but sisters need to chill out. Every year, around the time to write the Primary Sacrament Meeting program aspirin sales go through the roof and nervous ticks develop at an alarming rate. The primary program is not a production. It's not something that needs to be cutesy fartsy perfect. But in all honesty, I don't think that's the main reason people stress out. I think/hope it's because we love Heavenly Father. We want the spirit to be felt. We want the children to have a good experience. With that said... now what? 1. Well, you need to decide. Is one person going to write it or are you going to divide it up? 2. PRAY. Not a flimsy prayer either. 3. Base everything off what the children have learned.... Sharing Time Outline to the rescue!!! Use the scriptures, the themes!! 4. PRAY some more. 5. Depending on your numbers, have classes do monthly themes. For example, the Sunbeams can do January's theme, CTR 4 can do February's theme. Include parts of children's talks they gave throughout the year if you happened to write things down. Monthly songs can go before or after the monthly theme is presented by the children. Older children can be given (ahead of time) their parts with fill in the blanks or topics. For example: I am a child of God who will be an author one day! I love to write. The scriptures are full of stories about families, written by Heavenly Father’s prophets. One of my favorite scripture stories about families is __________________________. I love that story because __________________ ________________________________________________________________________________. I know that families can be together forever through Jesus Christ. Or: Please prepare/write a 1-2 minute talk based on family prayer, family scripture study and family home evening can strengthen my family. 6. Did you stop praying? Tsk Tsk. Take a moment to say a PRAYER. 7. The length of what the children say is dependent on how many children you have in primary and also what they are capable of. Some sunbeams could preach sermons that would make you cry... however most would do best with 1-2 simple sentences. CTR 4, 1-2 simple sentences. CTR 5, CTR 6, CTR 7, depending on the child 2-6 sentences. With Senior Primary, just think about time.... and don't stress out. If there are 70+ in your primary, children can also have group recitations or group singing parts. Ask the Bishop or former primary president what's been done in the past and get some ideas! The thing about the program is no matter what you do, the spirit will be felt. If you think you are not adequate or can't write, you're wrong. Humble prayer goes a long way. I've written 3 programs and know that it wasn't the words necessarily. It's the spirit the children bring with their innocence and joy... it is tangibly felt. Their goodness radiates and all are uplifted. When we look at our children, we see heaven. We feel what the kingdom of heaven is like. 8. Make sure children have their parts 2 weeks before you do your practice. Have a copy up front and sit low by the pulpit to help out as needed. 9. But the children don't know the songs that well... they aren't singing very loud!!!!!!!!! Woah. Slow ya' roll sista. 5 minutes every other Sunday on a song isn't necessarily going to make a child remember the words. They need to practice at home and sometimes they don't. It's Ok. Just have them SMILE or hum if they don't know the words!!! This is supposed to be a positive experience so be careful in your choices to judge the quality or volume of their singing. Of course we want to encourage children to do the best we can, but at the same time this isn't MoTab auditions. 10. PRAY. Look at what you've written. PRAY again. And PRAY one more time for good measure. If you feel happy, that's the spirit saying rock on with yo' bad self. If you feel unsure- re-read, PRAY, edit if needed/just go with it. The spirit might be waiting until after to give you that awesome feeling that all is well. Check things with the bishopric like the outline says to and then FINALLY turn on that William Levy telanovela for a few minutes to enjoy. Only a few minutes, because as handsome as he is, your husband is way hotter. It's not actually William...maybe... it's more the language of love and how they can talk about love for episodes on end, while if you try talking to your husband about your endless love, staring in each other's eyes of course, you burst out laughing because you only made it 2 sentences. For the record, I do not speak Spanish but I really enjoy over acting and insane plot lines dictated by intense music. With that not being the best way to end this post, I suppose I should mention that God is good. He loves us so much. This is an opportunity to really feel of His love for you and the primary children. Don't worry about what other people "might think"... this isn't about them. It's about having a spiritual experience and doing service. It's about guiding and helping children. it's about being close to our Savior. I know that Jesus is our best friend. He won't fail us ever. So trust in Him. You can do it with His help!!!

Yay, it is about that time that wards will start practicing and presenting the Primary Sacrament Meeting Programs. What does this mean??? It is one busy time of year. I thought I would share some little tips to help alleviate some of the stress.... First off here are some program cover that could be used: Free Image Download For the Program Cover in Spanish please click here: 2015 Primary Sacrament Meeting Cover Printable in Spanish For the Program Cover in Color Click Here: 2015 LDS Primary Sacrament Meeting Cover in Color: I Know My Savior Lives Tip #1: The key thing to remember is that it is the "Primary Children's" program. The programs that I feel that the spirit is felt the most, is those where the program is written by the primary children. How does one do this?? I can share with you what I did when I wrote the program. Here is an example of what could be used for this year: This is just a sample of the 1st page. If you would like the full outline, email me at [email protected] or leave a comment below with your email address and I will send it to you. Tip #2: So, once you've wrote the questions and assigned the question to a child. You will need to ask the children the question, I have done this a few different ways. One way, is during class time I have gone into the classes and asked them their questions and wrote down their answers. Once they have given you their response, it is really easy to write their part. For example, if the question was, "Who did you live with before you came to Earth?" and the child's response was, "Heavenly Father and Jesus." Then their part would be, "I lived with Heavenly Father and Jesus before I came to Earth." Or "Before I came to Earth I lived with Heavenly Father and Jesus." Another way I have done this, mostly with the kids I didn't catch in primary was I sent a text or email to their parents with the question. Tip #3: Music.... Boy I love music, it brings the spirit into the room, especially when those beautiful children sing. Their testimonies just radiate as they sing the songs!! The best thing I found was the primary presidency coordinating with the primary chorister. Together decide on what songs you are going to sing, how many verses of the songs you are doing to sing and if their are any special arrangements. We always tried to use our primary children's talents. We had violins, harps and cellos. You have to work with what they feel comfortable with and what sounds good. Sometimes it is they are just playing the interlude, or a verse by themselves. Or sometimes it sounds great for them to play along as the children sing. You just have to find what works. We also usually included something special in our songs. One year the children learned sign language to one of the songs. Another year they learned the first verse of "I am a Child of God" in Spanish. We have had songs where we had parts where the girls sing, parts where the boys sing, parts where the teachers sing, or even a class or group of kids sign. Don't feel bad about not singing all of the verses. We had one year where the plan was to sing all of the verses of a song and then we got into practicing it and decided that we would only sing one verse instead, and it turned out great. Tip #4: More about music... make it fun!! The best times my kiddos sang was when I made it fun. Some ideas, several times I would wear my super singer detector glasses (silly glasses) and have a pair of some other silly glasses. During the song, I would look for the primary child who was singing the best, this meant they were singing every word of the song and singing loudly (beautifully, not yell singing). Then that primary child would get to wear the silly glasses through the next song, when I would detect another child and the glasses would be passed on. Another time, I had a construction hat and pieces to build a temple. On the temple pieces were the songs. We would start with one and then while we sang that song I would be looking for the best singer that could help me build another piece onto the temple. I can tell you those type of things really get the kids singing!! Tip #5: Handing out Parts!! The best way I found was to staple all of the children in the same family together. I usually had a little note attached that said when we would be practicing, when the primary sacrament meeting program would be, and an invitation to the parents to help their children learn their parts. Then I would give their family bundle TO THE PARENTS!! I also e-mail the program parts to the parents also. Send reminders via email and text, reminding them when the program is, etc. Tip #6: Seating Chart: For me a seating chart was a must!! It helped with keeping things organized. I gave a copy to each of my presidency members as well as all of the teachers. When writing the program, think about who might not be able to handle sitting next to each other and don't put their parts right next to each other. My seating charts were always in the order the children would speak. Here is a blank sample seating chart that I used: Tip #7: The reason why I have the teachers reading the scriptures, is so the teachers can lead their class up to say their parts. It really helps so much with the flow of things. Then the teachers also lead them back to sit down. Tip #8: When to practice??? What I have found that worked best for our primary was we help practice during sharing time or class time on Sunday. For example: Junior primary is in sharing time first and Senior is is class first. The first week of practice, everyone would meet in the chapel or if the chapel is not available, then they would meet in the primary room for practice during the first hour. Then during the second hour, Junior primary would have sharing time and Senior primary would have Class, or vice versa. Then next week it would be opposite. You just have to find what works for your primary. I found that 3 practices were ideal. The first practice is many spent finding where everyone sits and running through the songs. The next two practices are spent doing a complete run through. There were some Sundays where we practiced the whole time and didn't have class or sharing time. Again whatever works for your primary. Why not a practice during the week??? I found that the kids as well as the teachers have very busy lives!! It was hard to get everyone their during the week. Tip #9: DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED, from the practices!! It is a proven and known fact that the practices have not refection on the program ;) Come program day, those little angels are going to shine!! Bonus Tip: After typing up the script, I give a copy to each of the teachers, music leader, pianist, and primary presidency members. I write their name at the top and highlight when their part and their classes parts come up. Also stapled onto the script is the seating chart as well as typed up words to the songs. The teachers loved having the words to the songs. It is really easy to do as well. Just look up the songs on lds.org and cut and paste :) Here is the link to the test for the songs in the Children's Songbook. Good Luck!!
