It's always a pleasure to work with a super creative parent on any party. This past Saturday, we helped style a cute rock star themed birthday party for a little girl who was turning five. The mom had been planning on this party theme for a year. She had picked up the fun banners on clearance that coordinated with the whole theme of the event. Thrift stores also became excellent sources to pick up more party items. Like the fun cassette background to the cupcake table. Which was actually a duvet cover. The pillowcase was used as part of the centerpiece for the kid table. The pink polka dot table cover that the mom used for the cupcake table was another sheet. Cardboard paper amps were also thrift store finds. Vinyl records were placed on our glass cake stands and glittery purple ribbon created the perfect serving trays. Tying coordinating purple ribbon around the popcorn scoop dressed it up. The mom made a fun birthday sign which she placed in a black frame, as well as a coordinating number 5 which she placed above the cupcake table. We supplied the drum set, amp, mic and mic stand, guitar, and tambourines to help set the stage for this rocking fifth birthday party. The mom hung twinkle lights behind two black sheets and a silver tablecloth which she was able to pick up on clearance from Christmas! Feather boas, sparkly microphones, and fun glasses not only were great party favors, but also served as great photo props for when the kids sang up on the "stage". The birthday girl's mom made the cupcake wrappers and picked up cute colorful cupcakes from Sam's Club. We made star sugar cookies and iced them with edible glitter that the mom had also made. Tutorials can be found on the internet for making edible glitter. A simple recipe that consists of sugar, food coloring, and baking. A fun activity for the kids that attended was decorating their own guitar using magic markers and glitter glue. Yes, our creative mom painstakingly cut out twenty of those cardboard guitars herself. We provided the black glitter stars for the guitars.

Planning to hold an outdoor birthday party for your kiddo? Here are some fun and creative ideas that will make your little one's day!
I am beyond thrilled to finally post Penelope's first birthday party pictures. Her party took multiple months of planning and many late nights spent crafting. After all was said and done it was all worth it. My mom and good friend Jessica flew into Fresno, to help me with all of the last minute touches. Without those two, I would have been way over my head. Tyson was also amazing through all of the madness. He sat back and let me have my fun. I wanted more than anything for the day to be a celebration of Penelope's first year. It was a rough year, but what a great year it was. I went with a heart theme, because Nellie will always be my heart baby. I will never forget the lessons she taught all of us. ^^^ I ordered a chocolate smash cake for miss P and an almond flavored cake for everyone else to enjoy. ^^^ ^^^ My beautiful friend Jes. ^^^ ^^^ I made a variety of different bows for the little girls who attended, to take home. ^^^ ^^^ The candy bar was filled with every type of pink and gold candy I could find. ^^^ ^^^ One of my favorite decorations was this banner, showcasing the many faces of Penelope. A huge thank you to my friend Brooke for sizing and editing all of P's faces. ^^^ ^^^ I spray painted these gold picture frames with chalkboard paint, to make the perfect sized chalkboards. ^^^ Before the cake smash we watched this video. ^^^ We laughed and cried. ^^^ ^^^ Penelope with her Great Grandma Betty, who she was named after. ^^^ Tyson's parents had the brilliant idea to rent a bounce house for all of the kids. Needless to say, it was a hit. Between the cotton candy machine and bounce house, the kids were well occupied. ^^^ My father-in-law was sweet and stepped up to the task of making all of the kiddos cotton candy. ^^^ And finally it was time to watch P dig into her smash cake! I had looked forward to this moment for so long. ^^^ We couldn't leave GiGi out of the fun. I'm don't know how she didn't get sick. She had cotton candy on her fur for days to follow. ^^^ Penelope was beyond spoiled by all of her friends and family. Everyone went above and beyond to make her feel so special. She loved each and everyone of her gifts. It was a blast watching her open each gift. It was an amazing day! Most of these photos are from our friend Shaun. I couldn't thank him enough, for documenting our little girls special day. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such great people. confetti dipped ballons tutorial here gold glitter garland found here pom-pom party hat tutorial here glitter letters tutorial here paper rosette tutorial here baby birthday banner tutorial here glitter dipped mason jars tutorial here fabric bow tutorial found here sugar cookie recipe here

On Saturday, we celebrated our daughter's second birthday with an Eric Carle, Very Hungry Caterpillar themed birthday party. Our little girl is turning two, but most of the Very Hungry Caterpillar invites I found online were specifically for a first birthday, so I decided to make the invitations myself. It was my first experience designing invitations and I'm pleased with how they turned out. I like the rhythmic wording. I printed them two to a page -4x6 size- at the UPS store for under $3. Guest were guided to our house by this little guy (old wicker paper plate holders, spray painted green) who stood at the corner of our street pointing the way. Party guests included two sets of grandparents and six of her little playmates. Our party activities loosely resembled an organized playgroup that most of the guests regularly attend. Upon arrival, did a brief circle time in which I read the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and sang a few favorite songs, such as Wheels on the Bus, If Your Happy and You Know It, etc. We also did a few rounds of Ring-Around-the-Rosie. I love that my toaster is hidden from view. Food labels displayed in champagne flutes of orange jello held by plastic forks. We also ate "Caterpillar Krispies," which were quite a hit with the children. After snacks, we opened presents and enjoyed free play with bubbles in the back yard. The next activity was a caterpillar scavenger hunt. I gave each child a plastic container with an egg inside. (Containers were a dollar store multi-pack find) The egg contained a "very tiny and very hungry" caterpillar. The children, and their parents, were sent into the front yard in search of plastic eggs containing miniature toy fruit from one of the centerpieces. The kids were also encouraged to find additional items for their caterpillars, such as twigs, leaves, and grass. The final activity was a parachute and balloon activity. This is another playgroup activity that the kids all love. First we played "balloon popcorn" bouncing the balloons on the bed sheet. The second parachute activity involves floating the sheet up and down while the children giggle and laugh underneath. The party was such a fun event. Our daughter had a blast - grinning from ear to ear the entire time. Here are a few more pictures from the weekend: Centerpiece with scrapbook paper table runner underneath. I made these printable Super Mario 3D World block templates for my son's birthday party. They look fantastic, and he still plays with them years later, even if they are a bit squashed! The thicker the card you can fit in your printer, the better. Alternatively, for longer lasting blocks, print onto plain photo paper, then stick the template onto thicker card using spray adhesive, cut out, score along the lines, fold & glue the tabs down.
