Stunning antique Haviland Limoges dinner plates with a hand painted, ornate gilt design. Circa late 1800s.
I picked this Antique Mirror and Brush Set up at an estate sale. I actually found them in a box in a cellar under the house. They are from The Art Nouveau Period which was between the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The mirror side is not in good condition. The mirror is a bit loose, the finish of the mirror is distressed and it does have several dents along the rim. You can tell it was definitely used a lot. The brush, on the bristle side is in a similar distressed state. So be sure to look at all the pictures and zoom in to see the details. The opposite side of the mirror and the brush is the sides that are awesome. The Floral Design catches your attention and the Poppy Flowers definitely screams Antique Art Nouveau! Both items are stamped,”Empire Silverart” and has the Empire Crown makers mark. This set would make great Antique Art Nouveau Period Decor so if your looking for some Antique Vanity Decor this set would look awesome framed in an old wood frame and hung on the wall. Thank y’all so much for L@@KING and let me know if you have any questions about this mirror and brush.

Au Joyeux Moulin Rouge poster by Alfred Choubrac The Belle Époque (the Beautiful Period) in France is conventionally dated from the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 to the the outbreak of World War I in 1914. It was a period characterised by optimism, regional peace and economic prosperity, and of technological, scientific, and cultural innovation. Whilst showing key works from the Belle Epoque, I am including works from the fall-out of the period almost up to World War II, so as to put these works in context. Artists in the late 1800s found opportunities to present their work to the masses through advertising art that began to appear as billboards and posters, plastering the streets of Paris. “Affiche Artistique” was the term that the French used to describe a poster that contained artistic expression. The art was so impressive to the public, people began to collect the posters as soon as they went up, which is why they are so scarce today. Artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Jules Chéret, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen, and Alfred Choubrac, contributed to the creative body of work that became what some called “a free museum for the masses”. The craze for collecting these examples of modern art was even given the name, "affichomanie", meaning “artistic poster mania”. Collectors today pay hundreds, if not thousands for original prints of these rare posters. This is part 2 of a 9-part series on art of the Belle Epoque. For more works in the series see part 1 also. ALFRED CHOUBRAC Alfred Choubrac ( 1853 - 1902) was a French painter, illustrator, draughtsman, and poster artist. His most famous poster is "Au Joyeux Moulin Rouge" ( above ). He contributed to the satirical weekly publication "Le Courrier français." With his older brother Leon ( who signs his own work "Hope," Alfred has his artistic training with painters Charles Doerr and Isidore Pils. The Chobrac brothers were early visitors to the shows, by 1875 with the introduction of chromolithography, they were experimenting with the modern treatment of colours and typography. They later created their own print workshop, one of the first graphic design agencies in Paris, creating their own artworks by lithography. 1885c Folies Bergère, Armand Ary poster by Alfred Choubrac Armand 'Ary 1890 Folies-Bergère, Ilka de Mynn poster by Alfred Choubrac 1890 Le Fétiche, Musique de Victor poster by Alfred Choubrac 1891 D. A beautiful collection of ten (10) late 1800s/early 1900s French trade cards, commonly known as chromolithographs or "chromos" due to the printing technique. These trade cards were produced as advertising for chocolateries or department stores or fashion boutiques in Paris. The image on the front of the card has no relation to the company which produced them - they were designed for collectors. For example, the image may be of a historical scene such as the jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, and on the reverse side the advertising for the "Grand magasins de la Ville de Saint Denis, Paris". There are several bundles of cards available, and yours will be chosen at random from the collection. Each set of cards contains a variety of images, such as children, animals, history, or other subjects. Please note that not all cards are visible in the photos. These cards were very much in demand at the time by collectors. Perfect if you are a collector of chromos or French vintage ephemera, or to add authentic French style to your journals or mixed media project. Delivery is with La Poste and includes tracking. I will always refund postage overages which can sometimes happen if you purchase more than one item. Thanks for visiting my shop!
