As I've mentioned often, I love Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy (and Mortimer Snerd). The only other that equals them for me is Burr Tillstrom and Kukla, Fran and Ollie.

First Day Covers: General Information: First Day covers are issued on the first day (or first significant day following) a stamps’ release. They are usually, but not always postmarked in a location relevant to the theme of the stamp. Commemorative stamps (those which are issued for an event, anniversary, or theme) are most often the subject of the cover, but definitive stamps are also used (like the Liberty Bell Series). There are several elements to a first day cover. 1. Cachet: This is artwork, usually placed on the left side of the cover representative of the theme of the cover. There are about a dozen major companies which produce blank covers with a themed cachet, and many smaller ones. We will credit the cachet as appropriate whenever possible. 2. Cancellation: The cover is validated when a cancellation from the appropriate date is affixed. As discussed, it is often issued by a Post Office significant to the person, place or thing shown. (e.g. Jamestown, NY postmark for Lucille Ball, born in Celeron, NY, a Jamestown suburb). 3. Additional Information: Many FDC’s print additional relevant information on the back of an envelope. This may consist of a short blurb, or a detailed history. 4. Stamp: The stamp is (usually) in its first day of issue, so other than a cancellation mark, it should be in excellent condition. 5. Address: First day covers were originally informal. Private parties purchased the stamp on its first day of issue, and affixed it to an ordinary envelope, addressing it to themselves or a friend. When available, the Post Office would use a special stamp to cancel these letters, indicating it was the first day of issue or some similar message. Modern FDC’s are done by the batch and run through the chosen post office by the FDC Cachet companies. In rare cases, one or more envelopes may not be cancelled, and in even more rare cases, the cachet may be missing, but the cancellation stamp affixed. It is typical for these letters to not have an address.
