You guys, this post is so overdue, and the only excuse I have is this: life. Life—in the absolute best way possible—just happened; my husband was home from his deployment...
A Texas girl by birth, I had lots of fun planning Ben's cowboy party. (Yes, I realize that there are cowboys places other than Texas.....
Well, considering my nephew is almost 7 months old, I would say this post is just a bit overdue though I'm still very excited to share it. My family heritage is Italian and we love it. My dad was born in Sicily and my mom's family is from southern
My sister is expecting her second baby (in three weeks!!) so I decided to throw a little baby sprinkle for her. What's a sprinkle, you ask? Well, it's a little smaller than a baby shower, but a way to still celebrate the momma. Typically it's more for family and really close friends, or newer friends who didn't get to celebrate the first time around. I had heard of sprinkles but a lot of my family members hadn't, so you may want to let people know what the expectation is. Keep reading for pictures, inspiration, and details on everything I made for the party! I decided I wanted to go all-in on the sprinkle theme, so things got real colorful up in my house haha ;) My favorite thing I made were these giant sprinkle BABY letters. Let me tell you, you may want to warn your significant other if you decide to make the letters, because Jeff thought I maybe had something to tell him when the letters arrived one-by-one in the mail. These were really easy to do. I ordered these letters, some spray adhesive, and an industrial sized container of sprinkles. I poured the sprinkles into a disposable catering tray, sprayed the front of the letters with the adhesive (waiting the 3 minutes for the adhesive to get tacky), and then dipped them into the sprinkles, pressing from all sides. I did have a few sparse patches, so I just individually pressed in a few sprinkles and called it a day. Just a note, you're going to want to protect way more floor or counter than you think you need because the spray adhesive goes everywhere!! I was thinking of things my sister likes, and duh, donuts totally fit into the sprinkle theme. My dad loves woodworking, so I asked if he'd be able to build a mini donut wall for me, and he so delivered!! This thing is two pieces, so if I want I can remove the base and hang it on the wall instead. I would tell you how it's made, but all I know is that it took him less than one day to make and he got to buy a fun new tool that would drill little holes for the pegs to fit into. Thanks Dad! I always love to design invitations myself, so sorry, no source on the cards! Err, I am the source ;) Oh and I took off my address and phone number here, so no stalking! I usually order custom invite designs from Zazzle, I like that they have a print custom cards option with choices for sizes and shapes, plus they come with complimentary envelopes. For the Treat Yo Self and Sprinkled With Love signs, I ordered from Custom Paper Props on Etsy. I used to avoid Etsy or plan on it only if I was ordering 6 weeks ahead of time, but I'm always amazed by how fast some of the shops ship out these days. They made and shipped out the signs the next business day after I ordered! The Sprinkled With Love sign is here, the Treat Yo Self was a custom banner. For food, I tried to keep it all sprinkles, but my mom said if we were serving booze I needed some real food too. Gosh mom fiiiiiiine. So I sent Jeff to Donut Vault (and then later to Dunkin Donuts to "get a few prettier ones") for donuts for the wall, made some chocolate dipped pretzels covered in sprinkles, and rice krispie treats with sprinkles. But we also got pinwheel sandwiches from Costco (I'm alllllll about letting someone else do some of the work when throwing a party - no need to do everything yourself!), I added in some white cheddar popcorn because it's also my sister's favorite, and my mom made our favorite seasoned oyster crackers. Oh, and some of what's on the table are actual sprinkles, but the majority is actually these little craft supply balls that kids melt down to make slime or something. Only adults were attending the party so I thought it was fine to put them out, but if you're throwing a party with kids I would not suggest decorating with them because they definitely look like food! I obviously had to make some cute sprinkle rim glasses for drinks. These were really easy, I just melted some white chocolate candy melts, dipped the glasses in the chocolate, and then dipped the glasses in the sprinkles. To get the sprinkles off after the party, I just soaked them in hot water. For drinks, I used this recipe for individual punches, and then put out champagne and vodka in case people wanted to booze their drinks up, or make mimosas or vodka lemonades instead of punch. Oh, and the sprinkle wall! How have I not mentioned the sprinkle wall?! I followed these instructions to make all of the sprinkle balloons, and used gaffers tape to attach them all over the wall. I was worried I couldn't put them up too far in advance because the balloons would deflate, but that was not the case. Because I loved it so much (read: I was feeling lazy) I left it up for a week after the party and they still looked great. Two thumbs up from the mommy to be! The moment I found out that my good friends Ben and Lori were pregnant I knew I wanted to throw Lori's baby shower in North Carolina! I tossed around a lot of ideas over the months that I had to prepare, and I ultimately decided on a Storybook Theme. This worked out very well since they were not finding out the sex of the baby, and of course since we are all three teachers :) The internet was full of ideas for a storybook baby shower so I tried to combine my favorite ides plus a few of my own into Lori's shower. The details: We planned Lori's shower for February 16. This was the Saturday after my week off for Mardi Gras break. We did this so I would not have to take off of work to travel the almost 900 miles to North Carolina. My original plan was to fly up, but when I checked the airline tickets they were very high due to everyone leaving New Orleans after Mardi Gras. This was a blessing in disguise, because I was able to complete many of the small details and bring them with me when I drove to NC. Book Page Wreath I tore apart two old paperbacks that I was finished reading to make this wreath. I found a tutorial online, and then edited it to make it my own. The pennant on the front says "Once Upon a Time". One of my best friends from high school is very crafty and helped with some of the little details that I am not so good at and she made the little detailed pennant for the wreath. I bought an inexpensive wooden "M" at Michael's and covered it in yarn to hang in the center of the wreath. Katharine also helped me make this L+B= Me banner. I was very pleased with how it turned out, especially after we added the baby pictures of Ben and Lori beneath it. I found the pre-cut scalloped burlap card stock pieces at Michael's and then used a stencil to paint the letters onto the squares. I used the same thick yarn that I covered the center of the wreath with to hang it. Bunting Banners I bought some pre cut triangle pennants at Michael's to use as a backing to this storybook banner. I went to Goodwill and bought two large children's books for 39 cents a piece. It was kind of hard to rip apart the cute stories, but it definitely paid off with how cute the banner turned out! I centered the pictures I wanted on the card stock and used Mod Podge to paste them on. The first banner that hung on the stairs was a nursery rhyme book, and the second banner that hung around the kitchen island was Winnie the Pooh. Lori really wanted the same marble cake that she had for her wedding at her shower. I was really pleased with the rustic look of the mint colored butter cream frosting. Katharine made this adorable mini bunting banner for the cake! Around the house I scattered small frames with different quotes about reading or actual quotes from books. Food: All of the food had corresponding children's books to go with it. This was a really fun detail! Once again, Katharine made the cute little cards that accompanied all of the books and food items that labeled the food using images and characters from their book, and I attached them to little blocks so they would stand up. Beverages- Miss Spider's Tea Party Utensils- And the Dish Ran Away with the Spoon Fruit and Yogurt Parfait Bar- The Very Hungry Caterpillar Chocolate Chip Cookie Tarts- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie Blueberry Cheesecake Bites- Blueberries for Sal Sausage Balls- Ten Fat Sausages Pigs in a Blanket- The Three Little Pigs Deviled Eggs- Humpty Dumpty Ham Croissants- Green Eggs and Ham Pepper Jelly and Crackers- Bread and Jam for Frances Meatballs- Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Tomato Tarts- I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato Pasta Salad- Strega Nona Favors: The card with the Moon Pie favors said, "We are Over the Moon You Could Join Us! Please take one." In the shower invitations I included the following poem asking each guest to bring a book instead of a card. Although cards are nice, They're only read once or twice. A book is a treasure That lasts forever. So instead of a card to be put aside, Please give Baby McDonald a book with your name & wishes inside. Games: I wanted to stick completely to the theme, but I couldn't resist "Name that Celebrity Baby". We also played "Finish That Nursery Rhyme" It unexpectantly snowed the day of the shower, but that didn't slow many people down from coming to celebrate Baby McNugget with us! Lori and I always seem to match, even though we don't plan it! I loved these puff balls that were hanging above the cake table and the colorful ones in the kitchen! Cake table with baby pictures and the sign in book So happy I got to do this for my sweet friend!

Recently, I hosted a baby shower with a group of friends at work for a friend at work, Kristen. The theme was Milk and Cookies (and books, she's a reading teacher). The hostesses brought books to start the nursery collection...more on this in a minute. This was a really easy theme to do with a large group of hostesses. The Invitations: I blogged about these, the process, and the innards here. We hosted the shower in our school library, it's the best local for a big group of folks. Here's the sign in table, milk and cookies table, and the cookie bar. I blogged about random stuff like this (making pom poms etc) a few days ago. Here's a close up of the guest sign-in table. Heather's husband printed some vinyl letters (Kristen's baby's name, and we filled these jars (old frappacino bottles) with Cookie Crisp Cereal. I bought a bunch of different brown/yellow/white fabric for all the tables. This milk jug, and all the vintage milk jars are things I've been collecting (prior to the concept). I have a few too many. For a Sign-In Memory, we had the whole staff leave a message in this book for Thomas to read someday. We had two tables, one for the dessert, and one for the after dessert desserts. Dessert Table Heather let me borrow these books from her children to create cupcake tiers. I don't think her children have forgiven me for stealing their books, even temporarily. I wrapped the top book in each stack in syran wrap to prevent any grease for the cupcakes from ruining the books. I made chocolate and white versions of the Oreo Cookie Cupcake, which I blogged about Thursday. I found the perfect napkin at Party City. We served some water for the non-milk drinkers, and I saw the idea for putting (Sarah's) yellow straws in a vintage milk jar on this site that was shared with me when I posted the invite pictures ( I heart bloggers). As for the milk, my original goal was to use old frapachino bottles (I've seen this in a million times with milk or punches), but then I remembered I don't really drink fraps (I like them, I just can't afford more calories), and I couldn't find anyone else that does either, so I found these little cuties at Hobby Lobby. It was quite a hunt! I'm going to use them again, I host parties and showers all the time, trust me, they'll have a second...third...and tenth life, so we had this handy return crate as well. There are three things I love to make 'fun' at every party-the invitation, the guest sign-in, and the favors. The beginning, the end, and the memory keeper would be another way to say it, I guess. The favors this time came in the shape of a cookie bar. Edible favors-my MO, for sure! I blogged about the bag printables, and the fig newtons previously. Each hostess brought a different cookie for the bar-wafers, buckeyes, oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chip, chocolate dipped fig newtons, and rice crispies on-a-stick, along with a bucket of Cookie Crisp Cereal (which we filled the invites with). I added labels and 'accessories' to each container (I blogged about these previously as well). This is where any memory of a diet went south. Guest all made big bags of treats to take with them. Each table got a vintage milk jug filled with daisies, a different fabric, and a book. We (the hostesses) sent Kristen home with the books (we each inscribed a message into the books we brought) in this little tub, with the 'guest sign in book' added to the mix as well, signed by all the guest. People pictures and a 'real report' will come tomorrow. In the meantime, here are all the pics from the shower.
