I told you that I was knitting mittens, and that they didn't work out as well as they should. It's hard to see, but the yarn is a lovely heather, some elann Highland wool. It's not the yarn's fault at all, even though before I knit this half mitten, I've knit a hat with it, and ripped it too. It's not the yarn, really. The mittens are way too big, huge in fact. I've decided to rip them back to the cuff, use that and make up something else, without increases. In fact, there's only the cuff left right now, but I don't know when I will get back to them, since the Noro blanket is calling to me, and I still have two finish two more lace scarves. This is the palm side, I don't like how it looks at all. I liked it well enough the way it looked in the book. The pattern is "Aran Islands" from the book "Folk Mittens" by Marcia Lewandowski. SharonV asked in her comment if I thought Kauni would be good for the 10-stitch blanket. I would not use it myself, because a) the color changes are long ones, and b) the yarn is too thin for my liking, for a blanket. Sam: My baby is not doing too well. He's not responding to the pain killers he's getting. He's clearly suffering, and I'm waiting for the Vet to return my call to discuss this further. We've started Cartrophen Vet injections, which he gets once for 4 weeks. This may help, but in the long run, or not at all. He's getting lots of glucosamine supplements as well. Metacam AND Tramadol for his pain, which clearly is NOT working. Last night, for the first time, I was thinking that my Sam might not be around as long as I thought he would. That's a terrible thought, a scary one. The most important thing right now is, that he'll not suffer. I hope we'll find a solution.

I am still trying my hand at different medieval crafts. So I came across Nålebinding or needle binding. Needle binding is the precursor of knitting & crocheting. With knitting & crocheting you are using loops to form a fabric. With needle binding on the other hand you are using more or less complicated knots. For

Place the loops on top of each other and pull it over your head to wear it as an attractive capelet. “Loops” is made out of two skeins of a lovely alpaca yarn that will keep you warm and cozy. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Chest: 32.2535.5, 39, 43, 46.75, 50.75, 55 inches Length: 19.520, 20.5, 21, 21.5, 22, 22.5 inches Here is a mini lesson on how understanding the relation between yo’s and decreases that match it. From reading posts from folks running into trouble while working armhole shaping within the lace pattern, I think this may help. While working this lace pattern, there is a decrease (either k2 tog or ssk) to offset every yo’s (this keeps your stitch count correct every row of the lace pattern). If you look at the chart, you will see that on the right end, the single yo is offset by the ssk, and at the other end, the single yo is offset by k2 tog. The double yo’s at the center of the lace pattern are all offset by a double dec named s2kp. The key to keeping your number of sts correct while working the armhole shaping is to pay attention to the sts you have decreased and see if you have enough left to continue the lace pattern across the entire row. So, if you BO 5 sts at the beg of the row, and within those sts you were supposed to work a ssk or k2 tog, and now you can’t because those sts are no longer there (have been decreased), do not work the yo that went with that ssk or k2 tog. Instead, knit to the next set of sts that allows you to work both yo and their matching decrease. The same apply if you decrease sts where you were supposed to work a yo, then do not work the matching ssk or k2 tog. For example, if you begin the underarm shaping on row 7 of the chart, you will BO 5 sts, which means you won’t be working the first yo. So, instead of working the double dec (done to offset the yo’s on each side of it) since you didn’t work the first yo, you should work ssk there instead to match the single rem yo to the left of it. The same thing apply at the end of the row, but reversed. It’s a great help once you start understand the logic of it all, and being able to recognize the relation between sts, and what sts look like. It’s the key to going “ah, ha! I get it!”

Surry Hills is a very special place for me. It’s not only the first neighborhood I put my feet down on in Sydney. It is also the neighborhood where I got married. It represents so much for me that I had to use the name for this design. This cropped cardigan is knitted seamlessly, bottom up and a seamless set-in ¾ sleeve. The pattern has both charted and written instructions but the knitter should be familiar with following charts. This is an intermediate pattern with some intricate stitches and techniques but they are carefully explained or linked to other resources. Errata: On page 3 under Decrease, Note shall say: NOTE! When decreasing in lace pattern, omit all yo’s on last repeat of the right hand front, first and last repeat of the sleeves and back and on the first repeat of the left hand front unless they are directly followed by a k2tog or placed directly after an ssk. It’s very helpful to have a stitchmarker between each repeat!*
