I knitted for myself, my friends and family, my children, and now my grandchildren. Many people knit. Men and women. Even celebrities knit. Here are just a few of the knitters you may know of.
Some wonderful photos from the 1940's. These would make a great display for our knitting group at the Heritage Open Day at St. Edmund's in September!
Recently I’ve heard a lot of bashing of something I do for – fun? Livelihood? Relaxation? You know the word- go ahead and say it- KNITTING. You know what? I’m tired of it being be…

I don't usually take part in the annual Knitting in Public Day events as I knit in publc all the time anyway - it passes the time on trains and buses, plus I enjoy a weekly knit with the Purlesque group at Brew. However this year's events were too good to miss. To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the British Legion in 2011, Rowan and the Liverpool branch of John Lewis have been giving knitters a ball of wool and a pattern, on the condition that we used them to make a Forces beanie for soldiers from the local regiment who are serving abroad. I've made one already and have just started on my second. For Knitting in Public Day the Lord Mayor and three soldiers from the 156 (North-West) Transport Regiment came to visit us while we knitted hats in the store. It was quite emotional when the soldiers spoke about how much things like this mean to them - and not just because they're nice warm hats, which are much appreciated when the temperature drops to -15 when they're serving abroad. They also said that receiving gifts like this can be a real boost to morale for soldiers on duty, as it shows that the public back home is behind them. It made me quite proud to have taken part.
Someone sent me this picture. It made me laugh alot. I felt it hit upon a truth. There is no such thing as a stereotypical knitter. It could be anyone! Knitting is whatever you want it to be, and s…
