About The Colour Blockade is a colourful top down knit sweater. Inspired by the 80’s ski jackets, this knitted sweater is a creative outlet to show off your colour skills. Choose different coloured yarns to create your own knitted look, or keep it simple with some pops of colour. Colour Blockade Knit Up Zip Up is worked from the top down, beginning with the collar, and then working the yoke down to the armholes. The fronts and back are then worked separately before joining at the underarms to continue the rest of the body. The hem is worked with an elastic installed, giving it that oversized puffer look that is popular with sports jackets. Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round to the cuffs, where the elastic is installed into the cuff. The zipper is sewn in from the collar and stitched down to complete the garment. This pattern comes with a PDF sheet attached to figure out your colour work beforehand. There is also a guide to using stitch fiddle to create your design. In looking for botanical inspiration for my new book, I stumbled across this beautiful photo online by photographer, Steve Stenzel. I love this photo for so many reasons but I especially am impressed by how it represents the life cycle of this particular plant. From the new growth of spring all the way to the end of autumn. I am so drawn to this natural color palette. So much so in fact.. that I showed this picture to the ladies of Spincycle Yarns and they used it in creating a special new colorway just for me. And they did such a phenomenal job! This beautiful yarn perfectly captures the colors of changing leaves. The way that the colors subtly change from one to the next perfectly expresses this idea of the natural life cycle of spring to autumn. I am not usually one to go for multi-colored yarn.. but this one I love. With this yarn I created my "Life Cycle" scarf design. This is an accent scarf consisting of a string of big leaves.. one growing out of the next. It works so perfectly with this yarn and I am so happy with it. This scarf pattern will be included in my upcoming book, Botanical Knits 2. The scarf pattern will call for 2 skeins of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool yarn. This special colorway is called "End of Summer" and is available HERE.

The favourable combination of colors is dictated by the nature itself. Just a perfect tandem. Saturated color contrasts with halftones it draws attention and excites the imagination. This palette is appropriate for a spring wedding decor, when you want fresh but at the same time delicate shades. Bold bride and groom can use this combination of colors for their dresses.
