This pattern has been technically edited and tested. An addictive and fast project. The sweater is worked from the top down, beginning with 1x1 rib for the double folded neckband. The yoke is then worked in the round, followed by back shaping using German short rows. Depending on your chosen size, you may/may not work raglan increases to the underarm. The sleeve stitches are set aside and the body is worked in the round to the hem. Instructions are written for 2 sleeve options that are worked in the round: balloon sleeves and straight sleeves with slight shaping. Each knit tells a story about the knitter and where they live. It includes 19 patterns, ranging from mittens to sweaters, that blend seamlessly with modern knitting styles. Aleks Byrd – whose roots are in Estonia, Canada and the USA – is a knitwear designer based in Bath, UK. In addition to knitwear design, she works as an illustrator and teaches Estonian knitting techniques around the world. In her designs, tradition and Aleks’ own, graphic style meet. This is a great project to use up all of your odds and ends of yarn, combining them together to make your own unique colour pallette of super chunky yarn. Depending on the yarns you choose, this can make it a substantial and quite weighty piece. It is bright and colourful, with a real 70's boho vibe. It is suitable for a beginner who has mastered the basics of knitting, casting on and off, colour changing using the intarsia method (tying in new colours as you go), knit and purl and some basic sewing up. Each stage of making this special design has been illustrated with images as well as written instructions. So, in spite of it being a freestyled knit, you will be able to reproduce it using these instructions. Feb 2022: The pattern has been fully updated with a clear layout, additional written instructions around the construction of the cardigan, tension and how to combine the yarns to achieve the correct weight of yarn.

If you are covered by the forest, you are completely lost, and no-one can find you. The belief was that you could undo the cover by turning your coat inside out or by bending down and looking back between your legs. Some of the people covered by the forest came back, some disappeared for good. Metsänpeitto is a yoked sweater worked with two colors and has spruce branchlet pattering at the hem and cuffs. The colorwork patterns don’t require long floats and are easy enough even for an unexperienced knitter. If you prefer, you can use more than one contrast color for the hem and cuff patterning. Please, make sure to pick colors with high contrast to make the patterning stand out. The sweater is worked from the bottom up, and the sleeves are worked separately and joined with the body before working the yoke.
