~Antique Sewing Machine Graphic~ (From the FREE Company) Last Summer I stumbled upon a fairly good Garage Sale and bought the Sewing Machine you see above. Cabinet and all! Last Christmas, after cleaning her up A LOT I sold her in my Shabby Cottage Booth at French Quarter Antiques in Oklahoma City. The piece was fabulous and the lady who purchased her was planning on using it as a side table. SWEET! I did very well on the resale of her...but, it was the Instruction Manuel that I truly loved. Although parts of it were beyond repair, some of the original graphics were in wonderful condition. Also, tucked inside the Attachment Case was the Bill of Sale from 1886. Can you imagine? Anyway, the new owner of this sweet old find didn't want the Ephemera and so I kept it. The Sewing Machine (Receipt below) originally sold in the state of Rhode Island for $35.00. It had ALL the attachments and was in beautiful condition when I found it! ~Wow...Only $35.00~ (A lot for 1886) Over the weekend I scanned in lots of aging images for my business and thought surely there were some who would be interested in a few of them as well!!! I scanned the original graphic in at 300 DPI and so it should be wonderful for lots of your sweet projects. I also cleaned up the one you see below and removed all the lettering and most of the directional arrows. I hope you'll have fun enjoying it! ~Cleaned Up Image~ I love vintage paper goods and I'm fascinated by the artwork and scrolly designs from the late 1800's. I'm quite sure the reproduced drawings you see above were originally hand done making them all the more delightfully sweet and charming! Now...can you believe it is June 1st? That means it's been a full six months since December 1st and the Christmas Decorating Craze began... Six months until it all starts again! :) Blessings as you enjoy the sunshine of the warm summer days ahead... Love to you~

I remember gasping when I saw this range from KaiserCraft. It's called Needle and Thread, and as the name suggests, it's a sewing theme. I thought I'd make something practical - a needle book to stop my delicate fingers (snort!) from getting pricked by loose needles in my kit. All the details can be found on the Artfull Crafts blog. Thanks for looking!

I wanted to come up with an idea to give out to my friends during the Holiday season that was to do with sharing some great pie & Casserole recipes, so I made a casserole & pie carrier that will hold a pie pate or casserole dish. I then took it a step further and created a matching Paper Bag full of the dry ingredients to be used in the recipe. The carrier fits a 9” pie plate or the 1 ½ -2 quart casserole dish. The recipe is placed on the back so that it can be kept once you use all the ingredients The original pattern was in Quick Quilts#177 magaizne "ALL WRAPPED UP" (there are many tutorials out there) It calls for a 26" x 26" square but it was to big for what I wanted so that is why I came up with the 17x17 as it fit better for the sizes I was doing. The original tutorial did not call for stabilizer so I added it for stability. The matching bag is made out of a brown paper bag. I cut card stock out to fit the back and front although the back is larger to form the top flap. INSTRUCTIONS AND MEASUREMENTS FOR CASSEROLE CARRIER Cut (1) for outside print17 x 17 Cut (1) for Outside print 17 x 17 Cut 1 from Firm Stabilizer 17 x 17 Place right sides together and then place the stabilizer to one of the sides Sew all the together on 3 full sides, on the 4th side leave a 3.5" opening for turning Turn right sides out, press all 4 sides and then sew 1/4 inch round all 4 sides To create the handles you will cut (2) 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 blocks you will then press two sides 1/4" in Now fold the other two open end wrongs sides together and press Open and press again each end into the middle pressed part This will create the short carrier loops for the handle to come through Now to create the handle you will cut one 5 1/2 x 17 and do the same thing you just did with the short loops Sew the two short pieces to a corner opposite of each other Sew the long handle to the two other opposite sides

This week's images are from a small 8x5 inch Standard Mail Catalogue from around 1913. There is no date on it but I would say it is from around 1913/14. I have scanned about two dozen pages of clothing. You are in for a treat. I have scanned this quite large so you can use them as a background or cut out portions for your artwork. As always feel free to use any of the images on my website in your artwork but please do not post or sell the original image on the web in a group or collection or alone. If you use one in a project and post it to your site please link it back to here or leave a comment in the comments section of the image on this site so we can all enjoy. I love to see what you create. Please be sure to leave a comment if you stop by. It inspires me to post more.
I've been sewing up some of these cute little teacup pouches, and I thought I would share a tutorial on how to make one of your own! If you have ever made a lined, zippered pouch, then this will be a piece of cake. If you have never made a lined, zippered pouch... then I hope this will help! Materials: 3 Coordinating Fat Quarters Scrap of muslin, felt or linen for tea bag embroidery Small amount of embroidery floss 9” zipper Warm & Natural Cotton Batting Sewing Thread Desired Embellishments (ribbon, trim, etc) Teacup templates (download link at the bottom of this post) Cutting Directions: From each fat quarter, cut one strip 2” by 18” (3 strips total) and sew the strips together to make a piece that is approximately 5” by 18”. Fold this piece in half lengthwise, and cut out two tea cup bodies (for OUTER front and OUTER back). Choose one fat quarter to be the lining, and cut two more tea cup bodies to use as the inner lining (for INNER front and INNER back). Using the handle pattern, cut one handle from your desired fabric. From the cotton batting, cut two tea cup bodies, and one strip that is ¾” by 8½” to pad the handle. Sewing Directions: (All Seams are ¼”): Place the front and back pieces onto the cotton batting pieces, and quilt as desired (i.e. stitch in the ditch between the 3 different fabrics). This is also a good time to add any desired embellishments (ribbon, trim, etc). Fold the handle piece lengthwise, right sides together, and place the ¾” strip of cotton batting next to the fold. Stitch along the raw edges, leaving one end open. Turn right side out and press. Start by placing the OUTER front face up. Then, along the upper width, place your zipper wrong size up and centered over the fabric. Now take one of the INNER lining pieces, and lay it on top of the zipper and outer fabric. All three pieces (outer fabric, zipper, lining fabric) should align at the very top. You can pin if you prefer. Sew the two fabric pieces to the zipper. Now, do the same process to the other side of the zipper. Place the zipper face down on the right side of the OUTER back fabric. Line up the edges. Layer the lining on top, right side down. Pin, if desired, and sew the two fabric pieces to the zipper. Open it out flat, press, and top stitch about 1/8" next to both sides of the zipper. This will hold the fabric in place so that it won't catch in the zipper. Take the handle piece, and pin ONLY TO THE OUTER front face and NOT THE LINING. Baste in place. Unzip the zipper partway (This is a very important step! Otherwise, you won’t be able to turn your bag right side out after it is sewn shut). Pin the two lining pieces and the two outer pieces, right sides together (aligning seams, and pinching the zipper edges towards the lining). Sew, ¼” from the edge, making sure not to stitch through the zipper stops (which will break your needle), and leaving a hole for turning at the top of the lining (flat base of the teacup). Clip corners to help the bag lay flat, and turn right side out through the hole left in the lining. Use a chopstick or a blunt skewer to help push the corners out. Topstitch close to the edge of the lining to close the hole. Using the tea bag template, cut two pieces from muslin, linen, felt etc. Sew these two pieces together with a scant ¼” seam, leaving a small hole for turning. Turn right side out through the hole, and then topstitch close to the edge all the way around the bag. Embroider the word “TEA” on the bag, and then attach to the bag front with a small length of embroidery floss. Get your teacup template by clicking on the picture below: I hope you enjoy sewing these darling little pouches as much as I did! Stuff them full of your favorite tea bags and send them to a friend to enjoy!
