Based in Long Beach, the firm of Killingsworth, Brady & Smith was responsible for some of the greatest mid-twentieth century structures in Southern California.
Killingsworth's own studio building is in immaculate shape. On Long Beach Blvd. I was really mad that all I had with me was a cheap 50mm prime lens and no tripod or anything, so I did what I could. Need to come back to set up some better shots with better lenses and stuff. This is exactly what my dream house looks like.

It’s an elegant midcentury modern dream.
The KGB residential project occupies corner site at the crossing of two major arterials in North Portland. The group of residential walk-up pods is a repeating building block of 5 units that vary from garden studios to two story townhouse units. The units are arranged around a wood sided central court along the east west axis which also serves as the residential entry, which is further ventilated by elevated terraces that form gaps in the building massing. The project will provide the neighborhood with varied and affordable housing types which will in turn create an intentionally diverse and rich resident community.
The entirely glass facade of The Brady House is a feature facilitated by the home’s interior courtyard.

Docomomo Hawaii Presents: Spotlight: The Architecture of Edward Killingsworth A presentation by Ron Lindgren on “Edward Killingsworth’s Architectural Career, with Special Emphasis on His Hawaii Contributions” When: Tuesday, MAY 7, 2013 @ 5:30PM Where: WCIT ARCHITECTURE 725 KAPIOLANI BOULEVARD, 4TH FLOOR Parking will be validated Ron Lindgren, of Long Beach, California, will do a free presentation on the career of San Diego-based architect Edward Killingsworth. Ron was an associate in the firm Killingsworth & Associates, and was lead designer on such Hawaii projects as the Halekulani Hotel, Kapalua Bay Hotel, and the renovation of the Kahala Hilton Hotel (pictured). Killingsworth was born in 1917 and attended the Architecture School at the University of Southern California. He worked in the office of Long Beach architect Kenneth Wing and during the post-World War II years single handedly instigated the introduction of “modernism” into the company’s oeuvre. In 1953, Killingsworth opened his own office Killingsworth, Brady & Smith. Partner Jules Brady had been a regional planner for the City & County of Honolulu both before and after World War II. Killingsworth became nationally known for his clean modern houses and commercial buildings, thanks in large part to John Entenza, the publisher of Arts and Architecture magazine. The magazine’s “Case Study Houses” program, which ran from 1945 to 1963, featured Killingsworth's "Triad" houses and was influential in promoting modernism as a stylish and livable architectural form. In addition to such Hawaii projects as the Halekulani, Kapalua Bay Hotel, Mauna Lani Resort and Ihilani Hotel, the firm also designed: · Marriott Desert Springs Resort (Palm Desert, Arizona) · Hyatt Regency Grand Cyprus Resort (Orlando, Florida) · Elkhorn Village (Sun Valley, Idaho) · The Phoenician Resort (Scottsdale, Arizona) · Jakarta Hilton · Seoul Hilton · Tokyo Bay Hilton · Bali Hilton · Alpha Resort Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia) All of these works and more will be illustrated in Ron’s presentation. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Historic Hawaii Foundation We’re Social!
